      I climbed on a friend's system last weekend and he had 2 left handed JRBAH hitches. I just put the carabiner under the opposite side of the bottom stage and it worked fine. I do prefer the mirror image symmetry on my own system when i step into it.

    It would be really nice to see a video tutorial of the knots u use in ur system in a manner of which its just the knot and instructions with out the seqways and side notes at least the first time. Then go in depth... I felt like when I was trying to learn this I kept gettin lost in the commentary and had to re watch the video 15 times until I just eventually gave up.. I love watching u use ur system and I'd like to one day use it as well

      Thanks. I try not to make videos that are too long because people simply lose their attention span. All of the information you're asking for is here. It just doesn't fit in one video. And so please consider just pausing the video where appropriate and taking note of the titles that I Supply in the comments. If you look for those titles you'll find the videos. For example, search for "JRB Ascender 523" or "JRB Garda Hitch footloop". And everything is here: jrbtreeclimbing.com/

    Awesome hitch, will start trying it, love the idea of spreading the load with two on a nonmoving rope, surely easier to work and ready for rappel, ordered some skinny light rope 80 ft of truefelberger resc tech and 15 ft of some 6mm Sterling , thinking 15 ft should be enough for a couple hitches and a redundant bridge, can’t wait to get up in a tree and learn how to adjust the two sides of the rope and hitches for hunting saddle set up, thanks for sharing your developments in rope climbing

    • @kennethrogers1129
      @kennethrogers1129 Před 2 lety

      Aww heck - just realized I miscalculated on length of rope I need for hitches (only ordered enough 6 mm for two) bridges, best friend and a lineman so ordering more for two bridges and lineman’s in 8 mm and 6 mm for three more hitches , feel the need for bypass , we have some big trees here in Mississippi. Will replace my awkward web bridge and add a redundant, plus it will be handy to have a lineman capable of going around a big tree that is easy to work. With two tether I was limited to smaller trees, but able to climb in new areas no the ball, so I’m expanding capability and SAFETY

      Appreciate your comment. Using my JRB Climbing Method, which uses a friction hitch on the left and right side in parallel, I continue to do side by side testing of various combinations of friction hitches. And this is the winner. Plus, we can take it in and out of bridge mode in just a second. Of course, I will let you know if I am able to improve it anyhow. I do have some tweaks for specific applications coming.

    I was playing and practicing with my climbing and I’m good on the JRB when I can reach a crotch, limited to my 80 ft rope, but when I’m using my two tether system, which I have greatly improved with replacing prusik friction hitch with 5-2-3 JRB hitch, (also playing with a method of rigging a lineman that is self tending as I raise the top tether adding a great amount of safety!!I still have a bit of trouble taking up slack on my lineman quickly, no problem adding play in the rope, but taking it up is difficult, should I add a turn, say do a 6-2-3, or 6-3-4? what would you recommend? I am using Teufelberger Resc Tech for my tethers and lineman and climbing rope, and Sterling Accessory Camo cord 6 mm for hitches

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  Před 2 lety +1

      Make sure you tie it in soft bridge mode... that wasn't clear from your comment. Also, a double Michoacán also works great on a lineman's belt, although i have never done a video. It just needs to be tied really short and have the Rope pass through the Carabiner which serves as the tending device.

    Hello again, John! I wanted to run this by you. I purchased my rope (Samson Predator) and Samson 9mm camo cord from Wesspur before I found your channel. This cord is 78% the size of the rope, not the 75% max you describe. Would the hitch work better as a 623 with this rope/cord? Should I try the 523 first and see if it holds? Thank you in advance for your reply.

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  Před rokem +1

      I have that rope, but not that cord. Offhand, it seems larger than ideal. Note that the actual diameter may be different than the quoted diameter. Also, the ability for the cord to bend is even more important than the diameter itself. 7mm Sterling (standard, nylon) Utility cord does work great with that rope. I tried 8mm Teufelberger HRC and felt that it was bulkier and stiffer than ideal. All i can say is that i recommend buying a pack of 7mm Sterling cord from at RockNArbor, and use 10% discount code JRB10. It's a minor expense in relation to everything else in your setup and you will get use out of it. Then you can tie and try them side by side. However, in either case, i doubt you need 6 wraps. If the cord bends, 523 will hold.

    • @jrbtc

      Yes, but you will want to tie it in soft bridge mode for one handed operation. There are several options on the playlist:

      It's difficult to assist without seeing what you have created and if it's properly tied and dressed. My suggestion is to watch the most recent video on the playlist and tie the 523 in soft bridge mode. If that doesn't help you, send me a photo. @@jrbtc will do. I'll try again sometime this weekend and let you know. I bought a longer length of hitch cord specifically for this so I really home to make it work. It seemed to want to either slip or the hitch would stretch out way too much before biting down. Therefore even if I had my tether at forehead level and the hitch up at the top it wouldn't be high enough. If that makes sense. Like I said, I'll watch the video and try again. I am 99% sure it was tied right. Thanks again! Great videos!

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  Před rokem +1

      @@mitchellelmer3237 ok, in your initial description, you didn't mention what the problem was. My recommendation is that as you tie the lower stage, make it as compact as possible. It should stay in place if you let go of it before starting on the upper stage. After completing the upper stage, pull all the slack out of the working end by spinning the upper helix with one hand while tugging slack out under the "2", and then out the bottom. If you were having the opposite issue, you would reverse the sequence. The amount of internal tension in that descending strand as it drops off the upper helix and out through the bottom strand is how we tune it.

    John, I just had my first climb using the 523 jrb hitch. I’m using 8mm mammut with 6mm sterling. They are holding well however they seem to be binding up on me, making rappelling difficult. I am having to use a lot of strength to tend them as I rappel on the munter. Any suggestions what the problem might be?

    • @jrbtc
      @jrbtc  Před 2 lety +1

      Watch this video particularly where i transfer into rappel. As soon as we break them, and before actually moving, we need to just wiggle em up and down a bit to get em nice and loose because we don't want them actually contributing friction during rappel. It is likely that you are controlling your rappel on a mixture of friction in your two hands. Its just your brain balancing instinctively. You need to consciously change that balance and do all the work with your rope hand and allow your tending hand to loosely hold those hitches in a limp but ready state.
