Actually, the developer of ET was very ambitious. He's basically admitted that if he was wiser, he wouldn't have done so. He did accept the project, and the completion date.
And let's not overlook the fact that the developer is not entirely at fault as Atari - probably in a vain assumption that E.T. would be a system seller - manufactured more cartridges than 2600s available, which is ultimately the financial reason why the crash of 1983 happened.
If he was wiser, he wouldn't have done so WHAT?
You said he was ambitious, but if he was wiser he wouldn't have done so.
But there is no context as to what "so" is referring to.
What do you mean he wouldn't have done?
He wouldn't have made the game? Or he wouldn't have made it so complex?
Your sentence structure makes the meaning of "so" completely ambiguous, which makes your "actually" (pushing glasses up on nose) attempt as fact correction meaningless.
You didn't specify what the developer wouldn't have done.
So you're outing yourself as "that guy" while not actually pointing out a single fact except that the dev was ambitious (which is obvious)
Please complete your nerd degree by telling all us dunderheads what the dev "wouldn't have done so"
@@epremier20050well, Atari games had been getting shitty for a number of years. It's not all on e.t. look at how bad the Alien game was. Look at the fact that the two consoles (5600 and 7800) kinda flopped.
Look at how bad the Atari port of pacman was, and the fact that third party pacman knockoffs actually did a better job of recreating the arcade pacman experience.
It wasn't all on Atari for making too many e.t. cartridges. As someone who was alive when this happened, I can say that both triple jump and you commenters are taking the simple "let's not do very much research" approach to ascribing reasons for the crash.
Atari had been fucking up for years before e.t.
E.t. was simply one more nail in the coffin, albeit a very expensive one.
I see people constantly harping on triplejump for poor research, but your "correction" proves that you didn't do enough research either.
Atari had been pulling expensive boners long before e.t. they had been dropping the ball year after year.
@@Boogie_the_cat In order to understand, you'd have to watch the video. That would provide sufficient context.
But in short, the developer was very ambitious, so he accepted an excessively tight schedule - a few days, IIRC. He was not forced into it. He thought himself smarter than he was, as that was indeed far too tight a schedule. As such, he sees working on this project as being foolish in hindsight.
Fun fact about LJN and the different developers actually behind the games
Rare are the ones who created the Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Nightmare on Elm, and Beetlejuice games (yes, THAT Rare!)
I still have nightmare on elm street to this day
LJN reminds of the AVGN, all their games are awful.
Idea for another list, 10 ties in for bad films there were actually good
Watching those games flash by hit me with some major nostalgia
kieran devine Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay would be in a prime spot on that list.
The 2009 Wolverine game comes to mind
They already did it. I guess they could do another. (Oh bad films...alright then, yeah that could work!)
Fun fact about LJN
*Rare* created a couple of the shitty movie tie ins they published!
100,000! Congratulations, you guys deserve this success!!
Damn I assumed they had at least a million. This channel rules
Slowly but surely growing.
Dillon Qaphsiel I know I’m two weeks late but that’s what she said.
Yeah fuck what culture
Total Recall on the NES, that was after Acclaim acquired LJN I believe. I still feel the regret and disappointment after 30 years.
The ‘wildcard entry’ bit literally made me lol.
I still remember the Robocop arcade cabinet that was only at the county fair and at an arcade in a seedy part of town. Because of these things, i rarely was able to play it but damn was it fun! Sure it was just a side scrolling shooter like Rolling Thunder and those type of games but it looked great and i thought it was fun!
got to meet the Reservoir Dogs developers at PAX East a few years back. 2016. since i was there with another developer, we all got drunk and played games after the show ended for the day. those guys....man, i could tell they had to be drunk to talk confidently about the game. weird bit of networking moment, but here we are.
They really took the high road nor mentioning the fact that Fred Durst was an unlockable playable character in the Fight Club game.
I had to ask Siri what “iniquitous” means . FYI it means grossly unfair and morally wrong. I’m definitely going to use that word next time I want to look way smarter than I really am.
I’m glad Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600 got a shoutout, however briefly. My earliest gaming memories are of playing that and ET on the 2600 when I was about four and absolutely hating them. Not long after that my grandmother bought us an NES, and the Atari went on to live in a box in our basement until it was destroyed in a flood during the early ‘90s.
I never comment, but seriously well done guys! It finally feels like you're getting the followers you've deserved since the name redacted days. Keep up the great work and well done.
100k! So happy for you guys!
I didn't even knew they made a new Reservoir Dogs game, the old game was fine, why the need for a rip-off of Hotline Miami?
9:25 "Ultraviolent Arnold " movies...shows Kindergarten Cop opening scene. ROFLMAO Awesome bro, well played.
Congratulations on the 100k lads!!
"jim petrol"... amazing!
Any one else remember the Westworld Video Game that came out in the 2000's based on the 70's movie?
Only worst then its bad FPS gameplay was the game destroying Bugs ,
speaking of RoboCop games: Larry Bundy Jr mentioned a RoboCop game for home computers in the 80s (I think it was the Amiga, though I could be wrong). the game itself was considered ahead of its time, but it wouldn't work unless you plugged in this "dongle" that came with the game, in a half-assed attempt to fight piracy. this idea basically ruined the game's sales, and the developers decided not to use that again for any of their future releases.
The Robocop arcadegame was pretty good, though,
Worst Tie-in Game? But Peter, you got to dance to Solo!
100k!!! So proud of our boys!
Funny thing about E.T. The game was approved by Stephen Spielberg
Terminator 2 Judgment Day for the SNES. The bar level, aka level one was painful but I had hopes things would get better. Then came the first driving section.
I somehow ended up with that Napoleon Dynamite game. I stuck a magnet on the back of the cartridge and it now resides on my refrigerator. I love it.
The worst movie video game that i've ever played was Toys for the SNES and Sega Genesis. Based on the movie with Robin Williams, you control a character using various toys to disarm traps, obstacles and other deadly hostile toys. More than half the time, you won't know where the hell you'll be going, a majority of the weapons are useless and you'll die quicker than you can figure out how to use a toy to attack back! And then the game over screen where you hear the general guffawing in victory as you read a report of your demise, followed with the general guffawing AGAIN followed by a final score screen all with some dreadful music playing in a loop!
_"The entire first blood trilogy, which is a load of old piffle"_
Come to America and say that, I double dare you.
Sam Vimes you’ll do nowt
You’d be hard pressed to find anyone under the age of 50 who still cares about any of the Rambo movies except the first and fourth ones.
Oooo, aren't you well 'ard
🤣🔥🇺🇲
Rambo was a cop killer
Anyone know the background music used during the countdown? Been looking for it for some time
I thought Robocop on the CPC464 was alright when I was a kid :/
Three words: Dragon. Ball. Evolution.
The theoretical good Fast & the Furious game you described existed. It's Forza Horizon 2 Presents: The Fast and the Furious.
Dawg what is the music used in this video & most of the other videos? Pls.
Hey, you pronounced Teräs Käsi absolutely perfectly!
You missed Robocop 3 for the Amiga 500. Hooooly cow that was bad. 5 terrible 3D mini games that were barely playable.
Way to 100K!
Who would have ever predicted we'd have the End of Fight Club in 2023 with the banks last week?
can we see a worst tv show tie in games list just so we can put that god awful Peaky Blinders game on it?
I hate that, I don't blame ET for Atari going down. It was from years of bad business. They didn't have any QT nor had anything resembling it. So that let a flood of awful games hit the consumers which hurt the 2600.
I thought LJN made movie toys, and that's why they got so many liscense tie ins.
Actually the Commodore 64, Amstrad and Spectrum versions of Robocop are considered pretty good games. Ocean got the rights for the movie for only $20,000 because they bought them early and the filmmakers didn't believe that the film would become very successful. Then they made millions.
100k!!! Woooop!!
erm, there were also excellent Robocop games? - the arcade version as well as the excellent ZX and CPC games?
Your Wildcard Entry is definitely AVGN approved. Nice.
I gotta give props to any video that works Super Bombad Racing into it!
What about An American Tail for PS2? So much wasted potential.
Surely the Arcade version of Robocop is the original, followed by the Home computer versions, then the Nes version.
I thought a "Tie-In" game is a game that ties in with the release of the film.
Not something based on the licence years later.
'Alien 3' is a tie in.
'Reservoir Dogs' is not.
Am I wrong?
I would say you're right
You’re right, it’s just not something people think about often.
6:56 To the contrary actually, most IGN reviews seem to be written by 6 year olds.
Which was a worse movie tie in for RoboCop? The games or the storyline with Sting in NWA/WCW? I think both were bad. Question is which is worse?
That was possibly the stupidest storyline in the history of professional wrestling, and that includes anything Vince Russo ever came up with. The games were masterpieces compared to that.
@@asurlybarber3620 I agree
I watched your video on the Rambo game... and bought it afterwards. It looked so bad, that I had to have it in my collection.
Admittedly I haven’t played it in years but I remember enjoying masters of teras kasi!
it will be a million before you know it.
But first we strive for 420,000.
I did not even know someone made a second reservoir dogs game. The one from 2006 was not bad I liked it
What about the Robocop arcade game?
Reservoir dogs on ps2 was pretty good. Didn't know they made a second unrelated game though. Just why
can't believe enter the matrix wasn't on here....
I just thought LJN had those horrible WWF games but they also had bad movie licenses lol.
March of the penguins video game is a brilliant idea.
I actually really liked the old robo cop games
could you do a list of good tie in movie games next?.
Seems like a logical conclusion, but did they?
@@ultimistakeo4369 yeah last year they did
They already did one a year ago
@@ultimistakeo4369 by that I mean a year ago
E.T. gets so much hate, which I find baffling since I beat it when I was 5. You had to build a phone while escaping the fbi. Then you went to the pickup spot. That was it but hey Atari game.
That Star Wars dance game is what happens when a company like Disney owns them. It becomes cheap and embarrassing.
I really liked the RoboCop arcade games.
You're not missing anything watching the movie "Fight Club" if you ask me.
Rambo 2 is one of the best action movies ever, but okay.
It would be really good if it wasn’t a sequel to First Blood.
To be fair Reservoir Dogs for the PS2 actually wasn’t a bad game so a decent game could be made from the license. Never played Bloody Days but I can tell how bad it is.
Robocop had games released for the SNES and Sega Genesis, and the sega version is actually a really good game. Robocop vs. the Terminator
E.T. for Gameboy Advance is WAAAAY worse than the Atari 2600 version.
I’m going solo is the worst thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise in the last decade.
At least they give us quality content for worst games ever.
So it wasn’t just me that one of the Poehlein dynamite video game.
"A load of old Tosh"
Me: waiting for The Bill
Eyyyyy we're already up to 101k!
Friday the 13th on the NES. Good lord
I like the mug.
6:56 you will find them writing them, tho
I like to take the risk of playing movie tie-in games simply because they’re cheap and the movies they’re based on are either really good or nostalgic
I'm predicting that Fast And Furious: Crossroads is in this list.
Et was so bad it caused an ecological disaster by having tons of Et games buried in the desert
A New Robo Cop game is coming out soon
I seem to remember there's a Total Recall game for the NES that's particularly rubbish.
King Penguins!
How dare you. Bruce Lee’s son died for The Crow
So many bad tie-in games based on movies!!! 🤑🤑🤑
eh, LJN is back... the Nerd owns it now
I saw Nerdcubed play FF Showdown and cried laughing. Honestly it's rare to see a game this bad post-2009
I'm just glad Narnia isn't on this list
Robocop - The Arcade Game is absolutely fantastic.
Data East. There games made a cameo in Robocop 2.
Republic heroes was awesome wtf? Am I remembering it wrong?
I actually enjoyed the Rambo (360) and Miami Vice (Xbox) games. On the other hand Charlies Angles (GC, PS2), Bevery Hills Cop (PS2), Igor the Game (DS) and Planet of the Apes (PS1, PC, GBA, GBC) were terrible.
So wait, superman 64 was not on the list or did I miss that?
That game is based on a animated series not a movie.
The crow Is bad? Now I'm disappointed in triple jump
They’re talking about the sequel _The Crow: City of Angels._
I thought Narcos: Rise of The Cartels will be on this list.
did my mans insult the crow tho?
Your "mans" insulted Crow : City Of Angels. Which is 100% justified.
Charles Mocata I think he insulted the movie too
Literally dead on 100k subs at the moment.
I hated Iron Man on PS2 (2008) and Transformers (2007) PS2
I heard the _Constantine_ game was pretty terrible, but it was probably better than most of these!
Not really a movie tie-in but The Simpsons has had so many bad games. The classic four player arcade brawler was the only one that wasn't terrible. How they can get one game so right and then spend the next three decades churning out hot garbage is beyond me.
Errr... Hit and Run?
Robocop vs terminator was ace
The best Robocop game is the mod for Doom.
