  • Today I upgraded the drip line for my aquarium and turtle systems to allow up to 80 gallons per day to flow to both systems combined. Take a look at how i did it, and where the waste water ends up.

    Nice job on the water Exchange.

    Good video, a lot of hobbyists use these drip systems in their fish rooms, just have to make sure if you have chloramine in water to keep on top of changing carbon blocks. Might want to change out your sediment filter there, looks pretty gunked up. Mine gets bad quick with my well, lots of sediment.

    Hello love the sump setup and auto drip system . can you tell me where i can purchase the 3 filter system? Do you also have a detail video on your whole sump setup especially the k1 setup. What do have for a sump pump ?

    Never mind, you answered my question beginning at about 9:50 of the video.

    Very nice. Any reason you didn't split the line (with the tee) first and go with another 40 gpd restrictor for the turtles? I guess it would add another possible point of failure, but I just wouldn't trust that tee to evenly split the flow.

      @gregjonesonline  Před 7 lety

      ItsAlleged I first restricted it, then teed, then put two valves on the very end to fine control the flow, adding a second restrictor would cost more money and would likely present the same issues of balanced flow

    I think I can find this in a prior video, but I'll ask anyway. Where does the water exhaust into a drain line?

    Do you still buy your carbon from The Filter Guys? I thought about buying some. Thanks

    Greg. I am wondering why you put the drip going into the barrel with drain instead of having it go into the turtle tank first?

    • @gregjonesonline
      @gregjonesonline  Před 7 lety

      Ed Zimmerman to keep it out of the way. it makes almost zero difference where I put it, a few have suggested the new water is going to go right out the drain but I challenge with the fact the pump is doing 2,000 gph and the drip does less than 2 gph

      Yeah, thats what I was thinking too. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I enjoy watching your videos.. Very informative and much appreciated! Thanks Again...

      i would of thought that it going into the K1 barrel so that you aren't adding to the same tank you are overflowing out of. Not much of a difference in 2GPH, but still doesn't give best circulation.

    Do you think uniseal is better when you are drilling a hole in a slightly curved surface or would a bulkhead be about the same when sealing ? I would think uniseal would be better but I've never tried .

    What happens in a power cut. Your sump pump won't work.

    You still need to do water changes, just not nearly as often.

  • @ChrisLocke1969
    @ChrisLocke1969 Před 7 lety

    please don't mislead the hobbyists... drip systems are awful "water changes"... you're not "changing" hardly anything ever, and more clean water than waste if you are.... it's a topoff more than automatic water change, wth man?

      I spoke with a doctorate in math before installing this drip system, they pointed me to something called a Linear Homogenous First-Order Differential Equation which describes the percent changed and percent wasted. In my case, it ends up using 8 gallons per day more than doing a manual batch water change once per week, but it ends up saving me hundreds of hours per year in labor. Is it less efficient? Yes. Is it an awful idea? It's the best thing i've ever done, no regrets. angelfish (dot) net has a drip calculator if you are interested in learning more.
