No core placement only non core placement possible.
But in this branch you can do startup.

Well Mechanical at KGP will definitely offer you a lot of opportunities in terms of exposure, placements and non-core career options. We would suggest you to explore the same for NIT DGP and compare on these factors. Then you can make a choice as per whatever feels better

Indeed you can explore every option. It's very open culture at IITM. (from my own experience.)

You can always prepare separately for Government Jobs (ex: Civil Services) along with any branch at IIT. But if you are particularly looking for Government Jobs in core engineering then that would be more conveniently available in conventional core branches
