Do you know how many MASTER mechanics would just throw their hands up and say "DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS" but charge hundreds of dollars to diagnose a problem.Ive been watching your videos for awhile now.You have extensive diagnostistic knowledge and abilities.Your a bulldog when it comes to solving tricky auto issues. And I get the impression your an honest guy..Man I wish you were located in my city.No one else would touch my car.

I don’t know many master mechanics that would just give up.

  • @virtual_intel

Honda dealership would of tried changing all the hoses and charged $1000 for such, then gave you back the vehicle knowing it wouldn't fix it. Then told you it was a bad engine and tried selling you a used one. This happened to me before, ever since that I became a do-it yourself mechanic using CZcams videos to help me figure everything out and fix my own car. I should of sued them, but I think the alternative route I took saved me much more money long term.

Thanks for this, I have a RAV4 with the same problem coming in next week for repair. I had already done the same tests with the scantool PIDs with the same results, so I could not justify replacing the range switch.
I did not however think to check the sports PID.
I almost bet I will be able to clean and refit that unit and solve the problem.
You got a like and a sub from a very old tech in New Zealand.

Thanks for this video. My 2016 Rav4 threw this code. It is 80k and clean inside. It's been driving fine but besides the CEL the display would always show "D" with the shifter over in sport/manual mode. I decided to check this rather than dive into the sensor. Exactly the same thing. A few taps with a small screwdriver and it popped out. Thank you so much. This saved me so much time and frustration.

My experience on a P0705 code on a fiat Punto 2004 petrol 1.2 16v CVT speedgear. I searched a lot for the cause, I disassembled and cleaned the speed range sensor but the code was still there. Finally a video on this breakdown on a toyota directed me to the taillights. I discovered an oxidation of the connector on the ground. I removed the oxidation and the fault disappeared.

I had this code on my Nissan Versa but it cleared out after a couple of days. My conclusion is that when I shifted into drive with the car still moving, it didn't allow the tcm to figure out what position the shifter was moved into. My tip, make sure you come to a complete stop before changing gears! Most transmission shops in my area "will not touch a Nissan vehicle with a 10 foot flagpole".

Can't thank you enough for making this video. I had the same exact problem on my 2019 4Runner. The sport mode switch had already reset itself but the code had been set and couldn't be cleared without a scanner. I took care of this problem with a purchase of a $35 scanner and didn't have to take it into the shop where I'm sure they would have charged me hundreds if not thousands.

I have a P0705 code and my shifter is very stiff. 2016 4Runner
It started intermittently last winter and then went away all summer but now it’s back and won’t go back to normal.
When I shift it in to Drive it’s stiff and doesn’t register the “D” on the dash. It registers park, Reverse and Neutral but not Drive and it also no longer registers tiptronic sports mode.
Because it’s stiff do you think it’s the actual shifter and probably not the PRNDL sensor?
