I cut a whole branched trunk off my eucalyptus gunnii and it it sprouted straight away and now, two years later, it has bushed up and grown 5 feet.
I love this time of year! You are off to a great start.
Love your videos, lots of content, I do grow some flowers but, looking to grow more. I have an allotment but, never thought much about flowers so, now I am. Thank you for posting and look forward to watching more 😊
Hi Chris, I’m sure you’ll get hooked on them as you grow more! I bet your friends and family will be glad too!
Thanks for this video! I have some eucalyptus so it was so useful to see the coppicing! I'm learning so much from you.
Let’s hope we get lots of healthy usable shoots from them! Thank you!
Cutting the trees totally works, just in case you are worried. We had a eucalyptus come down in a storm and from then on it produced lots and lots of long foliage stems perfect for cutting for the house. It's going to be fine.
Oh that’s great! I’m looking forward to seeing what comes from the coppicing!
Thank you for all the info on coppicing eucalyptus! I just started some from seed last year and they overwintered well. Now I'll just be waiting for them to reach the right diameter to cut 😀
I grew craspedia last year and have over wintered it in my greenhouse and all looks good
I have an aluminium greenhouse (palram) and it uses the same type of bolts in the runners also.
Can't wait to see all the new growth of your eucalyptus. They're pretty hardy plants do the should cope alright 😊
Ah interesting! That’s good to know! Yes it will be interesting to see how many new shoots we get from each trunk!
Mine does as well (another Palram) and they're such a pain! Any tips for getting them to stay in place properly? My vent opener is hanging loose because the little bolt popped out and I can't get it to sit right.
@@inbloom2006 I haven't had any problems thus far with the bolts tho they do slide around before the nut goes on. My vent did feel loose in the beginning but I have since tightened it really tight and now it's okay 😊 the only thing maybe it's not on correctly. I know when I built mine I did some things wrong in the construction stage 😂 I put the bracket on the wrong way on the vent and it just wouldn't stay open so possibly it's on upside down?
@@meganfarley672 it was fine for several months, but then when we had strong winds the vent window got torn off and I can't get it to reconnect properly. Maybe the track got bent out of shape a bit.
Absolutely love your videos work ethic and attitude.Unfortunately because of Brexit we can't get seeds or the super shelf brackets in Ireland at moment. Hope you have great season.
That’s so kind thank you Anne, oh no what a shame that you’re struggling to get seeds! I bet there aren’t too many Irish seed companies either?
We can get lots of seeds but I love the company you recommend "Plants of Distinction "They have lots of special varieties .Keep up the great videos and will enjoy following your progress.
Eucalyptus is my absolute favourite! ours dose not grow nearly that big here in BC Canada that I know of! I wasn’t able to find any seeds this year to try to grow some for the first time, hopefully next season!
It would be great to see an update on how your eucalyptus has bounced back from their coppicing
If you watch my July farm tour there’s a snippet of the eucalyptus in that 😁
@@bloomandgray thank you! I came across your channel looking for information about coppicing eucalyptus. The irony is strong - we don't routinely coppice our eucalyptus in Australia, so I am having to look at UK and US information! I just love your information on sustainable flower growing.
So excited for eucalyptus this year. Missed out on seeds, can't find them anywhere so I'll just have to live through yours!
That's a shame!! I'm looking forward to trying out some new varieties, specifically eucalyptus citriodora! I love the elongated leaf varieties in wreaths etc.
If you like them so much you should move to Austraila lol
How did the eucalyptus trees get on? We have 3 in our garden we want to coppice.... not sure if we've left it too late in the season 🤔 but may just go for it tomorrow morning 😅
I can’t understand why you don’t have more subscribers/views.
Hopefully things will continue to grow 😁
So glad I stumbled across your channel, loving the content you're uploading! Are there any types of seeds you will hold off on planting until after the frosts have gone or do you just risk it in the unheated greenhouse?
I risk most things now! There’s nothing in particular that I’m holding off on that I can think of
Hi, thank you for the advice on coppicing eucalyptus. Is it worthwhile drying the foliage from the cut trees? If so can it be rehydrated and used with cut flowers in the summer? I love your channel ❤ 💕. Can't wait to see what is going on in the summer and it is lovely to see your animals running about so happily 😊 😀
I don’t think you could rehydrate it but some people may like to use it dried! I’m looking forward to summer videos too!
I’m just wondering if you have heaters you use for your greenhouses at this time of year or just rely on the unpredictable sunshine?
I love gardening but I can’t touch worms without wearing my gardening gloves 🤣😝🪱 x
Hey I don’t use heaters no. Just relying on the good old British sunshine 😂 I can’t believe there’s a 🪱 emoji 😂 xx
What age were those trees at the time? Did you grow them from seed?
Do you have any heat mats (or any general heating) under your greenhouse seedlings? Or is it au naturale warmth? 🤩
It’s au naturale 😉 I do have a heat mat that I normally use but I haven’t had it out this season yet!
Do you pot on all your flowers, or do you plant any out directly from the seed trays ?😁
I will plant them directly from seed trays further on in the season when it’s warm enough for them to go out. When I sow in February/ March it is a bit too long for them to be waiting in the same tray until May time.
What is the temp inside your greenhouse and do you use vents?
Hi Sarah. What do you use your sedum for.? Thought this was like a rockery plant 🤔😊 x
It’s a taller variety that produces stems long enough for bouquets. I’m not sure on the species name actually.
Hylotelephium spectabile... or Sedum spectabile. 'Autumn Joy' is a popular one. Bumblebees adore them too..🐝
So how did this work out?
Really good! Will be doing the rest next month
What are your plans for the eucalyptus tops that you’ve cut down? Will you be drying those for wreath making?
I’ve cut some of the foliage but it didn’t look amazing and there wasn’t much of it either. I may bunch up the good stuff and sell it.
It makes great kindling, does eucalyptus.
Where do you source your seed from please.
Moles seeds, chilterns seeds and plants of distinction
Thanks 👍🌷
