I saw Laddio Bollocko at The Metro in Chicago around 2000 and they were absolutely incredible! Laddio Bollocko and Don Caballero are the two best heavy instrumental bands that I have seen live.
This is just unbelievable to me. So incredibly technical yet so loose and melodic somehow?. Very listenable. Not to mention the drumming is just inhuman.
@@thatsharakiri178 He published the largest jazz comping bible in the world called The Book of Rhythm. Basically a limitless beat codex. Super cool shit, worth checking out.
A long time ago, Laddio Bolocko's touring vehicle broke down in DuBois, Pennsylvania. My memory isn't super-sharp, especially after having a stroke a few years ago, but this I remember: My friend, I believe, stopped to offer help, and the band stayed in town until their vehicle was fixed. While they were there, they played a gig or an open-mic event at the Treasure Lake Ski Lodge -- and they were fucking INCREDIBLE!!! However, some dude sitting at the bar screamed and yelled for them to stop playing...and that was that. Pretty sure the band was super polite and chill, and I'll never forget that performance of "How About This For My Hair?" This video is fantastic, too! Thanks!
20 years later and I never heard of Laddio Bolocko. I don't even know if it's a band or a person. This is my first taste. And I love it. You never hear those beats anywhere else.
The drummer Blake Fleming published the biggest jazz comping bible ever written called The Book of Rhythm. If you like these beats, he gives you the tools to create them in that book. Check out his website. This dude is in LOVE with rhythm. Endless Inspiration.
This song actually appears in a Psychic Paramount album... I recognize it... maybe this was its early incarnation but the guitarist takes this song & riff into his next band, Psychic Paramount.
I saw them in LA circa 2000 when they opened for The Fucking Champs at Spaceland. (edit: actually maybe it was Trans Am... someone mentioned them in another comment and I saw them at Spaceland too, around that same period.) I remember thinking they looked like a bunch of hipster heroin addicts, but I must not have held that against them too much because I bought their CD that night, which I still have after all these years.
This song doesn't sound like anything I've heard in their discography. Did they have songs that they only played live that didn't make it onto recording?
blithering ape glad I could help, 7 years later! FYI, after fully listening, this is Part A and Part B. You should pick up the 3xLP box set they repressed, it’s worth it alone for the story on the sleeves of the records!
The sole person who dislikes this is obviously a Beiber fan who accidentally interrupted their gay porn video. I have no idea how it happened, but it did.

listen to their songs The Going Gong and The Man who Never Was, epic stuff. Another kinda similar band of this era is Sweep the Leg Johnny.

It’s “How About This for My Hair? Part A” off of Live & Unreleased 1997 - 2000. Hopefully you figured this out already!
@@vvviiixxx8745 I legitimately did not. Life and Times is one of my favourite albums. Guess I'll have to look into this release. thank you
