This is a favourite video. It has the modellers talking, big hands moving scenes and the video work really makes you feel you were there. Favourite layout is Over the Fence scratch built backyards, houses and reminds me of teenage train trips into town. 10/10
Brilliant video
Thank you!
Nice video Will. I was there on the Monday. I was quite disappointed with the show as there use to be more layouts and trade stands in the previous years ones. but it was good to see the show back non the less. I will certainly go to next years one now that it has been moved to a different date. - Nicholas.
Thanks for that Nicholas!
i love model trains especially victorian ones
Same here Alex!
This was my first ever model railway exhibition! Awesome to see the amazing work people have created! And Great coverage as usual!
Great to hear! Hopefully you can get to some more shows as there are some really good ones out there!
This was my first exhibition in a long time and also my first with AJRMG since I joined them. Hopefully by the time the showgrounds comes around I'll have my own modules ready to add to their layout.
Brilliant video, some enjoyable layouts
Wait until you see the Rosehill Video!
I did go and my favourite was Tybrook, I liked the DERM and Walker railmotors especially. The Over The Fence layout was exceptional in it's detail. I talked to one of the guys there about the houses and how detailed they were and he demonstrated that the Hills hoist in the back yard even rotated! As for the show itself, I thought that the entry fee was a bit high and I was a little underwhelmed for some reason. I was only there for the model trains so didn't venture to the other areas. It is a good venue with better lighting than Caulfield, which was very dark inside, but it seemed a little sparse considering the entry fee. Your video showed it off well.
Thanks for that Pauline!
I was going to go on the Sunday but saw a video of what was there Saturday night which didn’t excite me. Kyneton was a great exhibition, not many retailers but great layouts and prototypical running.
Kyenton was certainly the better exhibition that weekend imo
Will great video yet again did attend the show back in 2020 great show for retailers but that what I have heard.
Thanks Andrew
Will, thank you for the coverage of the Sandown Exhibition.
As usual, your coverage was great.
I get the feeling that perhaps the show is getting a bit stale, and needs a lift.
I have noticed over the years that that can happen, and then it turns around. I have seen it with Forestville, and the Liverpool Exhibitions, but they come back.
Cheers, and keep safe, Michael
I always go to the Sandown show. I think the event poster could use a refresh.
Thanks for that Gregory!
Hey will, its matt here from Ballarat, we have our model railway display happening on the king's weekend in june, r u coming to check the ballarat one? Its on the 10th 11th & 12th june
Hey Matt! Excellent to hear, I’ve had it in the news for the last few month!
Unfortunately this year I will not be, as I’ve decided to visit our southern friends in Adelaide!
@@WillJamesRailways oh nw I just lettinh U know
Attended on the Saturday, was some very nice layouts on display but felt something was missing this time , wandered upstairs and it was like a ghost town with more traders exhibitors than public . Found the Kyenton exhibition while much smaller had a better atmosphere
I agree with you on that one! Kyentons layouts where great!
there is a few reasons why its moving it off the long weekend for 2024, one is to get more interstate layouts and they have got some good ideas to improve and promote the hobby. there is also not as many exhibitions layouts around as there used to be and people wanting to show them.
I agree with your closing sentiment. It was an okay display of modelling (with your stand-out displays listed), but for the $20 price point I don't feel like it offered quite enough value. Of course, that's to do more with the venue hire than anything else I imagine, and is out of control of the organisers to lower based on the quality presented, unless they chose another venue.
Hopefully it's kicking a little more next year. It *is* great to have in the calendar.
I think that’s a pretty accurate guess on that’s happening there!
Hopefully next year is much betterb
Hi Will. Great video as always. It was also great meeting you at this exhibition. 😁. I thought the over the fence layout was a standout. Great detail and lots of trains running. Overall I was disappointed with the show. I was expecting a lot more traders than the handful that were there. I had a list of VR and VLine rolling stock that I wanted to buy, but went home empty handed😔
Thanks for that feedback!
This video is absolutely incredible but why didn't it come out day of? 😫
This would only take 2 hours to edit right? We need railways now.
Thanks Les. Lots on Patreon… including the Albury video
Magnificent.
Great detail in all the layouts and great footage from you, Will.
Im looking forward to August for the Melbourne Showgrounds model expo.

👍👍
Thanks Bill! See you there!
I was disappointed with the event overall. There were very few outdoor events in operation. Inside, there were fewer exhibitors than last time. Some of the layouts were great but overall, it just seemed tired. I went on the Saturday and there weren't many kids there - the future of the hobby.
Some very good feedback there Stuart!
@@WillJamesRailways Did you go to the Diamond Valley show? The contrast was remarkable. It was a packed show with plenty of layouts and plenty of kids.
I also appreciated some retailers had show discounts on products. 😉
