RCH hosts J Stephen Roberts and Scott Amis are joined by historians Dr. Helena Schrader and Dr. Stephen Donnachie for an exploration of the initial phases of the Third Crusade. We look at Europe's response to the fall of Jerusalem in 1187, the arrival of Conrad of Montferrat, as well as Saladin's failure to capture Tyre and the beginning of the Siege of Acre under Guy of Lusignan in 1189.

Suggested video possibility: The Crusades' influence on George R.R. Martin and his book series 'A Song of Ice and Fire' (I'd suggest the same thing for Tolkien, but with the exception of the Siege of Minas Tirith resembling the Siege of Vienna, there is not as much there to discuss)
Keep up the great work and very much looking forward to the Sargon discussion. I actually learned of this channel from him.

I read this on wikipedia and was wondering how true this was?P.S. Really like your videos, and the podcasts are really fun.
The kingdom was ethnically, religiously, and linguistically diverse, although the crusaders themselves and their descendants were an elite Catholic minority. They imported many customs and institutions from their homelands in Western Europe, and there were close familial and political connections with the West throughout the kingdom's existence. The kingdom also inherited "oriental" qualities, influenced by the pre-existing customs and populations. The majority of the kingdom's inhabitants were native Christians, especially Greek and Syrian Orthodox, as well as Sunni and Shi'a Muslims. There were also a small number of Jews and Samaritans. The native Christians and Muslims, who were a marginalized lower class, tended to speak Greek and Arabic, while the crusaders spoke French, and other Western European languages.

When the Pope promises free pass to the "God's Kingdom" if you fight for him in a Crusade, shit just got real

i hope people in the commenters really needs to appriciate historical documentary that actually exploring deep into the factual evidence and resource ratter than make a short movie and short animations like in crashcourse and Ted-Ed
yet, people were somewhat offended and even use intimidation and harrassement for disagreeing something.if you there was a mistake, speak up and tell what is wrong ratter than swearing and calling it "lies"

You have enough of a fine body of work uploaded to CZcams now. You should consider spending more time promoting your channel. It would behoove you and those who learn from your channel for you to get your channel out there more. It can be done. I'm not suggesting that you stop making new videos altogether, but I'm certain linking through social media and posting links to your channel and videos in comments sections throughout the Internet is a worthwhile effort.

As nice as that would be, given the shitstorms of trolls, extreme leftists and extreme conservatives that show up in these comment sections alone, I'm worried people would either dismiss all this or descend into flame wars. Hell, the EC videos were FILLED with people bashing the Crusades, and Mister Roberts himself when he tried to promote his Debunk vids there.

i think you fail to bring an impartial point on history... talk about them as facts, is not a novel, and distance yourself from tue quotes, also i know you cant do that because i seen your videos and you obviously have the crusades in...well the highest point...some kind of fanatism

+nahuel mendez I bid you a non-English speaker professor of history. the history that we read comes from the various sources of writing, you are not supposed to believe everything ?? nope, you are supposed to believe what is convenience to. that is the point of these people're trying to do, by using historical method to discuss and emphasize the real historical facts.
