About cabbage, here's a pro tip I learned from Food Network in the days when they used to teach us how to cook: Peel away the leaves, cut the hard centers out, roll the leaves up, then slice thinly. The term for it is "chiffonade". The result is long, thin "noodles" of cabbage. It's the way I always make it. Yes, it's great for both coleslaw and stir frying.
I used to chop mine but it’s so easy just to buy it in a coleslaw mix. Walmart even has finely cut angel hair cabbage in a bag🎉
So true @miketype1each Those were the good ole days. Now it’s mostly competition shows. Thank goodness for PBS!
@cheffatgrams it just doesn't stay fresh as long - particularly after bag is open😢after a few days it can start to brown and doesn't taste as fresh- IMHO. I used to buy those chopped all the time
@@kcloveonaleash I usually use the whole bag😊
Yep chiffonade
When I make stuffed cabbage, I use mushrooms that I pulse in a food processor until they are rice sized. Then mix them into the meat.
Clever!
Great idea...and mushrooms add the mysterious "Umami" that makes everything better.
I have been making a cabbage stir fry, adding chopped up corned beef lunch meat and covering it with Swiss cheese 🤤
Oh man! That sounds great!!
@@ginafumi3010
It’s totally delicious 🤤
I love making a cabbage stir fry with shredded purple or green cabbage, ground beef or sausage, ponzu sauce, chilli flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, & salt to taste. I eat it alone or sometimes with a little cauliflower rice. Super easy to make & really delicious.
We usually eat cabbage multiple times a week. I just said to my husband this afternoon “we haven’t had cabbage in like two weeks. Have we? “ I honestly miss it and it’s such a big part of our keto lifestyle. Thanks for highlighting it! You girls are amazing!
Cabbage soup was a big part of my initial weight loss success🎉 I'm lazy I still buy and use the coleslaw mix and also the angel hair cabbage mix😉
The last recipe reminds me of one that I've made for years.
1 head of cabbage, chopped
1 package of smoked sausage of your choice, sliced
1 regular size can of Ro-Tel
Just throw it all in a big pot together and let it stew for about 30-45 minutes, or until the cabbage is as tender as you like it. That's it. Too easy and makes many servings.
Thank you!!!!
I cut a cabbage into wedges, and leave the core alone so they stay wedges. Sauté in olive oil or butter on both flat sides to get some browning. Then add a mix of apple cider vinegar and water. I usually use 1:3 ratio of vinegar to water. Add a little stevia if you want, and get the liquid to about half way up the cabbage. Cover and cook on stovetop for 20 minutes. They are done when you think they are tender enough. You can cut the cores pieces off then if you want, or just cut them off with a steak knife as you eat the cabbage. It's sort of sweet and sour cabbage.
Carolyn at ADIDAF has a recipe for pad thai that uses cabbage for the noodles. I made it and it was really good. I used the already shredded cabbage and pre cooked shrimp so it was quick and easy.
We love cabbage. Even plain, steamed with butter, salt and pepper! Thanks for the new ideas 😁
I brown hamburger add onion and spaghetti sauce and cabbage. One of my favorites and one pot.
Oh! With cauliflower rice, that could be like deconstructed Cabbage Rolls! Yum! Thnx.
I use angel hair cut cabbage as "noodles" in homemade Pho!
Love that blouse or shirt you’re wearing (black cut outs)
Thanks for the ideas! Here are my own discoveries with cabbage, despite being an unabashed cabbage hater (I can't stand even the traditional dish of golubtsy, cabbage rolls in tomato sauce, that everyone loves): 1. Russian sauerkraut: shred white cabbage as thinly as possible, add finely grated or julienned carrots, salt and rub harshly to "sweat", throw in a bay leaf, peppercorns, dill seed and leave under a weight to ferment in a cool place. Ready in a few days. Serve squeezed, garnish with fresh sliced onions, minced dill and sunflower or olive oil. Trust me, you'll never eat German sauerkraut after you try this one! 2. "Spring" salad: Shred white cabbage as thinly as possible, same with onions, some green bell peppers (MUST BE green, not red or yellow) OR cucumbers, mix, add salt, then rub _lightly_and let it sweat for about 20 mins. Garnish with sunflower or olive oil and minced fresh herbs like dill or cilantro. As unexpectedly delicious as I hate cabbage.
@NarsilRenewed I will love these recipes! I am just learning how to ferment vegetables and the Russian sauerkraut will be my first try. I even have the glass weights. Thank you so much for sharing these!
These are great, new recipes for me, love cabbage. I make cabbage steaks and I love your Asian flavors will make them. Thanks for making me smile every day.
You guys really come up with good recipes for non keto people too! I just enjoy watching both of you interact with humor and you’re both likable girls! ❤
Aw thank you Hillary!
I grow a ton of cabbage in my garden…yay..this will be great.
So I love cabbage. I use it almost every day. That's the kind of salads we eat on a regular basis, shredded cabbage...
There is so many uses for cabbage 🥬
I also use it as a noodle substitute. All I do is make slices out of it and then I put them in a casserole dish at the bottom and I layer it sometimes like a lasagna or a creamy sauce with meat cheese and vegetables. Baked it up in the oven until it's tender and when you go to serve it it's literally like strands of pasta.
I put it in soups all the time to bulk it up. It's a wonderful vegetable that I use all the time
Cool I have a purple cabbage in the fridge, I never thought to make a patty out of it. My new Veggie I've been playing with is Daikon radishes. I recently diced them up and made chili ( delish). I know its kinda carby but a Buffalo gal needs something warm and satisfying. I've been trying to figure out how to recreate it for months.
Here's an ingredient you might look at: Sardines. There are a lot of videos these days that talk about the benefits of sardines. Some even recommend that you eat nothing but sardines for several days. But other than eating the things right out of the can, how do you eat them?
I make sardine patties/burgers. Essentially mashed up sardines, 1 egg, 1/4 cup pork rinds as your "bread" crumbs,, some Old Bay seasoning, form into patties, fry in oil, and serve with lots of lemon. So easy and delicious.
@@CellaBella241 I’ve never heard of sardine patties. I have eaten, but not enjoyed, salmon patties. But maybe the sardine variety is better. Thanks.
I use cabbage as the noodle for my keto lasagna, it is so good. Ty for giving so many choices in our keto life. ❤❤❤❤
We’ve never tried that! Great idea!
I make Keto eggroll in a bowl and I use cabbage. I also put cabbage in my 2 pound meatloaf. So what I’ve discovered is if I buy the pre-cut angel hair cabbage, I can put the bags right in the freezer because I don’t care if they get soggy or soft because I pre-cooked them in the microwave to get them soft so it doesn’t take so long to cook it in the ground beef.
I just saw on Facebook that someone made onion rings with cheese and onion in a bagel pan?? Would love for you guys to experiment 😁
Thank you for these recipes. Have made the cabbage fritters and cabbage sausage multiple times. Great way to use up cabbage. Looking forward to trying the cabbage potstickers.
I love cabbage. My mother in law turned me onto a recipe im like a super fan of now. Kielbasa and sourkraut. She cuts up a head of cabbage and throws it in the crockpot. Adds a bunch of kielbasa and a good amount of apple cider vinegar and a little puree tomato. Lets it cook for hours and its so yummy. Ive tried replicatings her and its good but hers is always better. Also the sausage cut diagnoally...thats called "cutting it on a bias"
I love using cabbage to make Crack Slaw, which is essentially what Sarah made with the sausage and bacon but you can use any protein and seasonings to make it your own. Love the potsticker idea!
What is it about that stuff??? The name fits! All I have to do is mention that around here, lol.
I just bought a cabbage to make meatball stroganoff and use the cabbage as noodles-so delicious! Now I have options for the leftovers-thank you!
My polish Irish side loves cabbage and so does my Asian side
The Nappa cabbage recipe reminded me how easy substituting blanched cabbage leave for noodles in lasagna is. The key is to drain them thoroughly and I will even lay them out on paper towels to get that last bit of moisture out. The pieces don't have to be perfect and I patch in with small pieces. Just like regular lasagna it's even better the next couple days.
The cabbage pancake would be gr8 w/barbeque sauce. Your sauce looks gr8 too!
Okonomiyaki is the main thing I use cabbage for- lol
If you can't get the sauce for it then you can use sugar free BBQ sauce! Love it!!
My husband and I started keto last summer . Your recipes/product experiments have been so helpful. Just wanted to say thanks!!!
Thank you for watching Denice! ❤️
Cabbage also makes wonderful noodles. So much so, that Cabbage is on my weekly grocery list, along side of cauliflower.
You girls are hilarious! I have twin daughters so it is extra fun for me to watch your episodes 💗💗
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your pork chop recipe is beautiful! Mushrooms! I use them in everything.
I agree, the plating and filming were lovely! You two should switch-off more with the cooking. 😘
Cabbage is one of my favorite veggies. I like is cooked, raw, steamed...about any way you fix it.
I eat shredded cabbage with broccoli slaw & spinach as my salad. It lasts so much longer in the fridge than lettuce.
I love to make Irish egg rolls, by rolling corned beef and Irish cheddar in a cabbage or kale leaf, then steaming 🤤
Cabbage lasagna is great as well replacing the lasagna noodles with cabbage leaves. Very good.
I love cabbage. I love it as a side on its own, in soup, Cole slaw...the list goes on. I love Napa cabbage because it is more tender, and I throw it in soups. love it!
Great suggestions Paula!
Homemade sauerkraut with dill & caraways seeds is delicious
Once again you have not failed us with recipes! Thank you! Everything looks delish and I would NEVER think to mix my cabbage with Kimchi to get that marinade ! On my
Shopping list now! ❤
I love raw cabbage but I don't like cabbage cooked unless it is nappa cabbage. As for a dish I would like to see you try is something I have been thinking of making making keto. Dolma is a Greek/Mediterranean dish using grape leaves stuffed with seasoned meat and rice. I was considering using hemp hearts instead of the rice. It is easy to use canned grape leaves for dolma if you don't have fresh.
Aloha from Hawaii
Love your gals channel❤
Down to earth
Keep up the good work!
I find your videos to be informative and fun. Consider doing some recipes with Daikon radishes, please.
Great ideas Peggy! Thank you ❤️
Some great ideas thanks😊 BTW love the way you presented this episode! Edit on the prep and cooking really works👏
I've cooked this one for many many years:
Cabbage with Onions
In the immortal words of a certain relative, "It might not look good, but it might be good!" 🤣🙊
Serves 4
4 thick or 8 thin slices of bacon
1 medium onion, sliced into thin rings
½ cabbage, sliced
Butter or bacon grease
Chicken broth, enough to cover the bottom of the pan
Salt and Pepper
1. In a large nonstick electric skillet, fry bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside. Pour off most of the bacon grease and save for another use.
2. Saute onion in a little bacon grease until tender and beginning to brown, about 15 minutes, adding more grease if needed.
3. Add cabbage, butter and chicken broth. Stir and cover. Allow to simmer until the cabbage is tender to your taste. Salt and pepper to taste. Remove to a bowl and allow the liquid in the pan to thicken a little. For service, pour the thickened liquid over the cabbage.
4. Chop bacon, and pass to garnish.
Notes: You can also add smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced. Just watch the carbs.
Kitty Mama Electric Skillet!!!! I was just going to set this out for a May garage sale. I haven't used it in years but you have inspired me to use it now and try your delicious recipe. Thank you so much.
I love using cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. I love roasted brussels sprouts also
Omgosh! Yes, the Cabbage Soup Diet.... Made me never want cabbage again. 😂
I kinda liked cabbage soup.😊 Will try the cakes 😋.Anything with a crunch.
I love cabbage and those pancakes look good. I would put some whipped cottage cheese on top! 😀
The cabbage pancakes would be great with lump crab for crab cakes.
Yum! That sounds like a yummy combo!
I LOVE cabbage! I’m excited to watch this.
Thanks Sue!
Just had a visit with family where I was reminded of a recipe they had made at a prior visit. Cabbage rolls. Was so good. I see this in my near future! Thanks for the video!
Thank you ladies. I love cabbage and always looking for a new recipe.
I already posted once while watching and just made it to the end. All of the recipes are fantastic. I plan to try them all. Thanks for another good video. 👍
All of these recipes sound very good.
Sarah you’re look, hair and shirt is goals! ❤
Aw ty Dawn!! ❤️
So many yummy recipes !!! Thanks !!!
I love cabbage
Just in time for St. Paddies. 🍀
Cool format, love cabbage....great ideas that are pretty easy, thanks!
All a must try
LOVE OKONOMIYAKI!!
You’re both beautiful! Happy V Day. Try this: I used the new Keto Chow mushroom powder…steamed cauliflower in my instant pot for one minute; put half in my vitamix with butter and some cream cheese and Fairlife milk, blended it then added the keto chow powder and the rest if the cauliflower and salt and pepper and it was the best fake mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. Pillowy and delicious with extra protein to boot. Try it!
As a veteran of the Cabbage Soup diet in the late 90's, I'm reminded of how good cabbage is. I love the soup, but resented having to eat it for a week straight. I have cabbage regularly but sparingly. This video has me thinking I need to do more with it. Thank you and really enjoy your channel!!
It is beautiful!
cabbage is sooo good for you too. love these recipes, thanks!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching
For those last few non-wrap recipes, i roast the chopped cabbage in the oven with a stick of butter (40-80min depending on quantity and density of slices) until caramelized to get the party started. More efficient than roasting on the stove and lets me get everything else done before it’s time to add the cabbage.
“Pro” tip: get the cabbage all the way roasted or your house will stink of cabbage.
I used to know a gal named Okonomiyaki. Thanks for the great video, Sister's.
Cabbage is one of my faves! I've done versions of most of the dishes you describe here ... great job, keep 'em coming!
Nice recipes! Thanks! 👍
Cabbage is my absolute favorite! I used to hate it growing up. My mom would force me to eat it, but now I eat my keto coleslaw almost on a daily basis!
I love cabbage..regular and savoy cabbage. Fried, baked..whatever. I make cabbage rolls using fried cauliflower rice. Soooo good.
Thanks girls ❤!! These looked delicious and inspired me to branch out into the "cabbage world" 🌍
❤️❤️hi lori!!
@@ketotwins Hi y'all!!!
Fortunately for me, I love cabbage. And it's one of those foods that's appreciated by many cultures. So I get to enjoy many food choices (Polish, Chinese etc) by way of the use of cabbage. Good and good for you..... as they say.
You lady's are great.... keep it up!
Love your channel! I’m very inspired
🤗🤗
Thank you for reminding me about cabbage - as a vegetable I've used many times before getting into the keto world. We've also done simple fried cabbage with egg in a skillet - but I look forward to getting creative, seeing how things turn from for your experiments. And by the way, I must say that you two look very nice in your video! You all are my daily go-to for watching or listening to videos in the background while I work, but today I noticed you look like you're heading out to a fancy dinner 🙂. In any case, thank you for all your content, encouraging your fans and subscribers to try new and interesting things - many times turning out tasty and fun, or putting something to the test that turns out to be a dud, ha ha. I often cannot replicate the videos I find exactly, where the creator is so enthusiastic and their end product turns out so tasty-looking and what-not. I also experiment and do my own little additions or omissions - and it's all about having fun and designing things that one likes for oneself. I also encourage your fans to at least contribute to the buy-a-cup-of-coffee. Always looking forward to your next video
Awesome as always
I love cabbage! Thanks
Great to get us all loving cabbage again!❤
I use cabbage in place of pasta. Even my non keto family likes it better than spaghetti at family dinners. I actually thinly slice onion and place in pan with a little oil, then add an entire head of cabbage - thinly sliced also. Cook covered, then uncovered stirring occasionally. It's so delicious. Saves good for leftovers as well.
I make a cabbage egg foo young with brown gravy.
I can't wait to try out all of these recipes❤❤❤
Another great video. One of our favourites is using shredded cabbage in place of noodles in a keto stroganoff
I love cabbage! Thank you :)
Love cabbage!! You can used it so many ways and tastes great. Best of all it’s low carbs.
It’s a win win💪🏻
BTW happy Valentines Day ❤️
Thanks for exciting me about cabbage again. And, I'll finally sign up for thrive.
Thanks twins, more great ideas! One of my go-to sauces is sriracha, mayo, and sugar free honey. So good!
Yum! I’ll have to try that!
how do you get sugar free honey?
@@TracyKMainwaring I get it at Walmart but I'm sure you can find it anywhere. It's imitation sugar free "honey"
Would you consider featuring eggplant as a major ingredient? I love your videos!
That’s a great suggestion Marsha, thanks!!
I loved the cabbage soup diet bc I thought the soup was delicious 😂
I make the cabbage/bacon/sausage meal often. Its delicious. Can’t wait to try your other suggestions. Thank you.
I love cabbage, and thought I had tried everything...definitely going to be trying the red cabbage kimchi one. I really like using steamed cabbage leaves in place of the pasta in lasagna.
Call it French-cut sausage
I use ground sausage, onion and diced cabbage as a main dish. Very good!
I love those recipe ideas girls yummy 😋
That could be a Korean pancake yumm
I make a verson of that sausage and cabbage recipe, but i dont put any bacon or butter and i like my cabbage not so cooked down😊
Love cabbage
I do love cabbage and I have it a lot during the week. My mom was Polish American and we had a lot of cabbage and sauerkraut and just love the stuff. These are great recipes going to try. :-)
I make keto cabbage rolls stuffed with Mt keto meatloaf. The dumblings reminded me of them. I love the fried pork with kimchi cabbage slaw. I am excited to try that recipe.
