Loved this podcast, Jeffrey and Jim. I pastor a small UMC (North Georgia) with a disaffiliation vote scheduled and looking to the future. I love what I hear about the CMC. I sense a humility and great wisdom in Jim's presentation. I want to learn more.
I liked the analogy of the two rails. It implies that all scripture is taken seriously. Where would Pastor Jim stand on the analogy of the three buckets?
Thank you for this video. It is very informative. Our church has disaffiliated and we are currently “letting the dust settle” before making a commitment to another denomination. I plan on sharing this video with my fellow church board members as it appears it would be a good fit for our church.
Jim Hancock is a great man that deeply loves Jesus.

I think I really like these guys. (elected, all volunteers, missions focused, tithe principles, educational resources, no trust clause). But I would want a little bit more influence on local church practices.Update: I watched a presention regarding CMC by Rev. Hancock at a church that was considering joining. There was some pushback by some congregants regarding morality standards. I really appreciate this guy not backing down on core conservative principles. 😊
1852 wow! Broke off from MESouth, to not add layers of authoritative hierarchy. Local churches have self determination, autonomous. Stay on the "rails.". Doctrinal integrity, scriptural faithfulness.

I am a UM in MD looking for a new church but at this point haven't been able to find a church which supports a conservative point of view.
I'd love to see the GMC and other, scripturally adherent Wesleyan denominations join together. It could be called the Reunited Methodist Church..... :D
I take serious issues with the called system of finding a pastor. It leads to a pastor being subject to the whims of the congregation, or even, just a few of the big donors in the congregation. If there is correction needed, and the congregation doesn't want to hear it, they can just fire the pastor. If the pastor doesn't want to get fired, or jeopardize his/her job, then s'he will try to keep the congregation happy rather than holy.
Bishops are biblical and a good way to keep local congregations accountable.
I agree in theory but we have also seen examples in UMC of pastors going rougue and membership not able to rectify it. GMC seems to be attempting a hybrid approach to pastor assignments.
Both SBC and CMC (and GMC) want to be faithful to scripture. But they differ completely on what that means in regards to woman pastors and infant versus believers baptism.
Yes, well, pretty much every tradition wants to be faithful to scripture, but each denomination is quite different from the others in a number of ways. I see no choice but to engage critically with what each believes and try to figure out what holds water better. That’s why I think this sort of work, consulting people from various traditions, is so important. We can to allow for ecumenical dialogue, while still reserving the right to come down on one side of any given debate.

Well the liberal UMC, the UCC, and probably most mainline denominations no longer believe that scripture is without error. They believe the portions of scripture that agree with their personal social and world views, and ignore those that do not. Or decide God has changed his mind as in The UCC, "God is still speaking".

So, Plainspoken, what is it about the GMC that you prefer to the CMC?
I think I’ll do a wrap-up monologue once I have gone through the list of Wesleyan denominations I have in mind, sorta boiling down how I see things. But I guarantee that I won’t be speaking with too much certainty about the overall faithfulness of any given denomination. In the end, we all just have to pick a tradition to live and work in, hoping to faithfully bring it closer to the biblical vision. But it honestly breaks my heart that things are as divided as they currently are.
Is my understanding that the CMC is Anti charismatic.
