5 Questions We STILL Have After Pretty Little Liars' Series Finale

The Pretty Little Liars finale finally revealed the identity of A.D, buuuuut left more than a couple major questions unanswered.
Like… what ever happened to Pepe, the dog?
And if we’re talking about missing persons, unfortunately, Pepe is not the only character we’ll never ever get to say goodbye to.
One character, in particular, came to Rosewood and immediately won the approval of PLL fans everywhere. Eddie Lamb, the beloved nurse at Radley Sanitarium. So, whyyy did you leave us, Eddie Lamb? Well, according to Marlene King, Mr. Lamb left town… I’m not buying it but, who knows, maybe he was sick of all the Rosewood shenanigans? But the biggest unanswered question surrounding Eddie is WHY did he recognize Aria at Radley? It seemed like we were heading towards a major reveal that perhaps Aria was at Radley at one point or another, but now we know she wasn’t so how could Eddie possibly have known who she was?
Because, let’s be real, before A.D was revealed to be Alex Drake, there were so many theories about Aria and one particular character really fueled the speculation by saying “Miss Aria You’re A Killer, Not Ezra’s Wife.” Mona muttered those creepy words while at Radley and when we all realized that the first letter of each of those words spelled out MAYA KNEW, every PLL fan was sure we had solved a major mystery. Welp. We were wrong, and to this day we still have no idea why Aria was involved in Mona’s riddle at all.
And while we’re revisiting Pennsylvania’s most popular mental asylum, let’s talk about Bethany Young who, in many ways, is still a giant question mark. We know that she died after being mistaken for Alison… after all, they were wearing the same exact outfit, but why was she wearing Ali’s bracelet the night she was killed? Those bracelets became a major detail in the mystery of Ali’s disappearance but somehow nobody ever figured out why Bethany had Alison’s around her wrist.
And around the time Bethany Young was introduced to PLL, the liars were desperately trying to figure out whether or not Ali was alive, when they stumbled upon Ali’s diary which revealed a mystery man who Ali nicknamed ‘Beach Hottie.’ The anonymous boy toy seemed to come up every single episode, and was hinted at being a major clue to solving the Ali mystery, but the identity of said Beach Hottie was never, EVER revealed…
At least we did finally figure out how the mom’s got out of the basement… Oh wait.
Well, we did get a funny little joke about that in the series finale, but if we’re being totally honest here, NOBODY actually knows how the mom’s got out of the basement.
And just for kicks,
Why was the number 214 in every single season? Why did Noel kill Sara Harvey? Did she rack up a crazy water bill after all those showers and he wanted revenge? Who shot Spencer? What did Jenna read on the braille message after she was captured by A.D? How did she get away from A.D? How did Mona get Alex and Mary to Paris? Does her French boyfriend who may or may not be a crooked cop also have a private plane? Isn’t Mary supposed to be in jail?

They broke up like off screen. It was never shown or mentioned but you know it's logical. Also Cody (Mike) was filming for Teen Wolf but tbh I thought it was ridiculous that they couldn't get Cody for at least one episode for the final season.

Without the Bethany storyline Alison would just be dead. There would be no justifiable reason as to why another girl was wearing Ali's shirt to get the two confused, etc.

Illucinations she just meant the whole storyline revolving bethany, not Bethany herself. If the writers were always just going to make her be a corpse replacement for Ali to be alive, they shouldn't come up with irrelevant storylines that just create more plot holes, like Bethany's drawings, why she called Jessica aunt Jessie, the whole age gap from Marion's death scene etc...

Everyone had different opinions of which questions was answered and which wasn’t. Some people were still confused about stuff that happened in the earliest seasons, but the writers considered those questions already answered.
The cece reveal made sense, it was plausible, imo I thought Ali was going to end up being AD (because the thing with cece seemed staged)

I didnt! I thing it answeard a lot! BUT the thing is the story changed! back than Marlene planed something else! onn of thes things was that CeCe was Big A and Wren was UberA But than when wren left She nede dto expend the story becaus the original plan didnt worke out anymore so she answeard like 90 percent of thes left over things from her old planed story to make sens! Wren still worked WITH Charlotte on the A Game! He was suposed to be UberA Since Season 1( thats how long uberA is planed! in seaosn 3 BigA was set in motion to expend the story a lil but than that story got expendded somewear in S4 after Marlene got wind that Wren could not returne so she createt the Charles and Mary story ! Early in Season 5 she knew she neded a new UberA and went with another Idea she had since S1 Spence rhaving a twn! Aparently this twin was suposed to medt the girls in an reveal at somepoit but was propaly eatehr not part f teh A game or was HelperA for Wren! Yeah, I liked theory that Aria was pregnant with Ezra.. So that was supposed to be a thing that A.D. had on Aria in that file and Mona was saying 'Miss Aria You Are Killer Not Ezra's Wife' because of abortion. That was great theory. :)

Also Bethany killed Toby's mom when she was a kid. Bethany was around the same age as Ali, but earlier in the show, Ali is at Toby's house and Ali is older than Bethany, but Toby's mom was alive. She came into the room.

No, in the books, Ali is A after she killed her twin, Courtney. The writers thought they were ending with Charlotte being A but Freeform wanted 2 more seasons. They wanted A.D. to be Wren BUT they only had him for 2 days, so they decided to wink at the books and make Alex A.D.
The show basically centers around the Hastings and Dilaurentis family.
To me, the ending just felt rushed and like they wanted to finish it quickly. Don't get me wrong, I love pretty little liars and it's my whole life, and I liked the finale, I just wish Marlene put more time and effort into it.

Love you, Sinead. But I can answer all those questions you have based on the character personalities and the clues throughout the show.
1. Whatever happened to Pepe the dog?
A: Jason has shown that he doesn't like dogs... period. In Jason's first appearance, he threw a rolled up newspaper at a little white dog sniffing around a bag near Jason's house. At the end of the season 5B episode "The Melody Lingers On", Jason confesses in Jonny Raymond's secret-whispers contraption that he left the gate open on purpose and Pepe ran away.
2. Whatever happened to Eddie Lamb?
A: Marlene said he left town. He definitely wanted to help do the right thing and end all the shadiness in Rosewood, but he got cold feet and left town before he went to tell Ezra everything he knew about Wren's involvement in Radley. Eddie recognized Aria because he remembered when Aria, Hanna, and Emily went to visit Spencer back when Spencer was in Radley. That's all it was.
3. "Miss Aria You're a Killer, Not Ezra's Wife".
A: The words don't mean anything and it was just Mona trying to scare Aria, but
"Maya knew" means that Maya knew something in the DiLaurentis house that terrified her into believing she knew too much and that this combined with Nate stalking her meant she needed to face her fears and get the police involved... the problem is, she got GARRETT involved, so that didn't turn out well for her. What Maya saw was a photo of Charles in the DiLaurentis house, so she knew Alison had a secret older brother and figured that he probably killed her. Since Maya knew this, she figured she was probably next. I know there's nothing really in the SHOW that supports all this, but it WAS revealed in an interview with one of the writers.
4. Why was Bethany Young wearing Alison's bracelet when she was killed?
A: Bethany Young was wearing Alison's bracelet when she was killed because, since Jessica was copying Alison's clothes for
Charlotte, she copied the bracelet too. Bethany stole the entire outfit to wear that night, and knew that Alison was the name of Jessica's other daughter. She probably assumed Charlotte's friendship bracelet said the name of the wearer's SISTER on it, not the name of the wearer herself.
5. Who was Beach Hottie? Why were they important?
A: Beach Hottie was Wilden, Emily discovers this when she and Hanna see him in the Cape May photo wearing board shorts. It confused us into thinking he was Board Shorts instead, but no... Board Shorts was Ezra, and Beach Hottie was Wilden. Wilden was at Cape May, and Ezra was not. Beach Hottie was significant because the Alison, CeCe, and Wilden are all connected. If Alison was sleeping with Wilden, then where does that leave CeCe? If CeCe knows all about Cape May and Beach Hottie, and "A" had all that Cape May stuff in their lair, then it gives us the clue that "A" must be CeCe.
6. How did the moms get out of the basement?
A: ...... Okay, I can't answer this. This is the only one I can't answer, because even the writers themselves have no idea. But I CAN take a guess... This was the DILAURENTIS basement. It seems logical that they just got out through the crawlspace that Red Coat was using back in season 4.
7. Why was the number 214 in every season?
A: This was used throughout the series, so it made it look like anyone could have been Uber "A". It turns out, they went with the 214 motel number as the correct identifier. That was the same episode where Spencer and Toby started their relationship, which as we now know, became a big factor in the series finale. Spoby was the ultimate clue leading to A.D.
8. Why did Noel kill Sara Harvey?
A: LMAO at your answer! But no, Noel and Jenna recruited Sara because they thought she hated the PLLs just as much as they did. Sara was only in there to get information and protect Emily. When Jenna overheard Sara telling Emily that Noel was dangerous, Jenna stopped her and then got Noel to silence her for good so they could trap the PLLs in the following episodes.
9. Who shot Spencer?
A: Alex Drake shot Spencer, it's revealed in the series finale. Looks like she was going for shooting herself as well and then make a surprise recovery to steal Spencer's life after the real Spencer had secretly died.
10. What did Jenna read in Braille about the endgame?
A: The real Braille is just a recycled prop they used for Jenna's text book in season 3. But it's supposed to say that the PLLs will go on a terrifying scavenger hunt that ultimately leads to them being arrested for killing Archer Dunhill, who Jenna was friends with and Charlotte was in love with. Jenna was supposed to play a role in the game it seems, but after her surgery failed, Alex saw her as useless and scrapped her involvement in the plan. Jenna herself was probably supposed to play Avataria.
11. How did Jenna get away from A.D.?
A: ... A.D. let her go after the eye surgery failed. There was nothing more they could do and Jenna knew better than to try wandering in the dark finding clues about her old superior, so she cut her losses and flew under the radar.
12. How did Mona get Alex and Mary to Paris?
A: Mona must have worked out a deal with Nigel Wright, the pilot who flew CeCe to Thornhill Lodge no questions asked. Her French boyfriend was never a cop at all, he was just wearing a costume and took Alex and Mary wherever Mona asked him to.
13. Isn't Mary supposed to be in jail?
A: Now this is something they didn't really think through... Yes, Mary was broken out of jail by Mona. Whenever we need an explanation for how Mona does something, they resort to "She's Mona". Mona can simply do anything she sets her mind to when it comes to technical advancements. But I don't think it makes much sense that Spencer would never visit Mary in jail only to discover that she and Alex were never there... I guess it's canon then that Spencer never forgave Mary or Alex and never visited them in prison. They just wanted the nightmare to be over and done with, so they didn't want to even thoroughly check to make sure Alex and Mary WERE imprisoned.

Charlotte successfully scared Jake out of Rosewood.
Jake caught Ezra yelling at a blonde woman in a car who Ezra claimed was Maggie's lawyer. But considering what we know now about him paying CeCe to spy on the girls and report new information, it seems he was actually yelling at CeCe (whose actress wasn't available, so they used a stand-in).
After that, Jake tried to warn Aria about Ezra and to keep her eyes open to see the kind of person he really is. Since Charlotte learned that Jake had seen Ezra yelling at her for screwing up, she decided that Jake knew too much and needed to leave town. It was a bonus since Jake was teaching Aria how to defend herself, and this proved to be a problem for Charlotte (as we saw when Aria overwhelmed CeCe in the 4A finale).
Jake kicked a punching bag that had knives hidden inside of it. He figured it must have been Ezra, but it was really Charlotte taking things into her own hands. This was enough to make him paranoid that Ezra could have sabotaged anything in his daily life... from drinks in his fridge, to loosening the bolts on exercise equipment, to even getting killed in his sleep. He thought he had no way out, so he decided to leave town to save himself a lot like Eddie Lamb did. It wasn't worth getting killed over.
I don't think mary and alex were broken out of jail. I think the cop with toby that night was monas French boyfriend.

Making Wren A and Bethany's brother...could of cleared this shit up. They were headed down the Scott Montgomery path tying Wren and Aria together. Which would explain why A always went easy on Aria and why A always targeted Spencer and Hanna the most. it would also explain Melissa being blackmailed and why Mona and Eddie were onto Wren. Plus all the stolen medical files, x-rays, blood work, hospital surveillance,

Jacquelynn Rutti no its not scary its stupid. Twins are extremely rare. They don’t “run in the family”. The last season was a messy steaming pile of shit.
For some reasons, I like the Alex Drake story arc, I just wished they introduced her earlier on the show without them revealing that she is AD. 😂 PLL 7B is rushed and messy.
The only real answered question was who A.D was. Trojan was awesome but I hoped it would've benn a more surprising character that we already knew.

Also.. For A.D. Being such a powerful, smart and "unstoppable" person, she was awfully easy to find in the last episode.
What ever happened to the doctor that put Wren's baby in Allison? That's a felony!! Hard to believe Emily and Allison weren't furious for justice.
Also.. if Alex kissed and had sex with Toby and none of it was Spencer, how did they end up together in the end? They didn't share any of those moments. Who's to say Spencer wanted them to be together?
Where were the Dad's and siblings of the girls for the past season?
Why did Mona end up in France? And if she has Mary & Alex captive, shouldn't the police be looking for them? Shouldn't the girls be worried for their safety?
A.D wanted to know who killed Charlotte, and as soon as it was known to be Mona, instead of going after her, she chose to go after Spencer.
So that means her motive wasn't to get revenge/justice for Charlotte.
Soooo many questions.
I was left HIGHLY disappointed.
AD went to first time public in front of everyone and wouldn't Jenna know that there was another child and remember the smell from the night she was kidnapped and Mona playing double agent to win the game they would still be in the dark. they couldn't make it too complicated they had to wrap up a show of 7 seasons in 2 hours. Ehm yes they did share moments together playing scrabble, the very first scene were he checked out the truck that used to be his, Toby telling Spencer she won the game and that he figured out the word (which basically said she loves him). Mona convinced Wren and then Alex she could help Mary out of prison, kidnap spencer etc thats why she was still alive. Her motive was revenge and justice at first but it became wanting a family and friends who have each others back a boyfriend who loves her, she wanted to know how that feels like she wanted to have all this. Those questions were answered. For the rest of your questions its TV anything is possible in a show that is knows to have jumped the shark.
You're so right about Mona and the girls being worried for their safety because Mary and Alex aren't in proper custody, they could probably escape or whatever one day and just end up going back to Rosewood, plus how tf did Mona even get them over to France, ugh my brain hurts
Xantia De la Rosa When Alex found out that Mona killed Charlotte she sent Wren to kill Mona but Mona convinced him that she could help Mary get out of prison. That's why in the opening scene of the finale Mona says to the mysterious figure (Wren) "Are you here to kill me?"

Question is anyone else really pissed off that "alex" a character we've never heard of ended up as ad? I honestly was kinda mad Charlotte was A as well because there was no way we could have figured that out. Like I tried so hard every episode to guess who ad was. I feel like Marlene was just so focused on making sure all the ships were happy that it took over the whole episode like yes people want the ships to be happy but we also want answers! But I wasn't even happy with the way spoby ended, if there's anyone who derserves to be happy it's spencer and Toby!! It was never shown they even got back together whilst all the other ships got married, had kids or were pregnant :(

I was so mad about it being Alex. I mean the times they slept together, I don't really care about, and Spencer was acting super weird and I was like I feel like she's not the kind of person to sleep with someone not long after they were widowed so what the hell Spencer. But the kiss in the mid-season finale was such a beautiful, perfect moment. It touched me, but broke my heart at the same time. It was so perfectly bittersweet and that wonderful moment just got stomped on when we find out that it wasn't even Spoby.

AD couldve honestly been anyone as long as it made any sense. But it was obvious that Marlene just didnt care about the show as much as the fans did. There were so many plot holes and even Marlene herself couldnt remember what she did in the previous seasons.

I HAVE THE ANSWER TO THE "HOW DID EDDIE RECOGNIZE ARIA" QUESTION - In 5x06 Aria decided to volunteer at Radley so she could try and get more info about Bethany Young and see like how she escaped Radley and what she was doing stuck under Mrs DiLaurentis' back garden. Eddie noticed that she was volunteering and obviously remember her.
You just made me realize how bad PLL was. Hell I don't think the writers even know how to answer those questions.

Kassie Mitchell I honestly think that they should have stopped the show at season 5. Like season 6 and 7 really was irrelevant and confusing. and u thought the show was about Ali, not spencer, because they legit made 2 seasons about spencer.
To be honest, some parts of the storyline don't add up. Like the whole Bethany young thing, or how Maya knew... but what did Maya know? How did Alex connect with anything? If she was trying to be spencer, and if she was playing the role of spencer sometimes with the rest of the liars, shouldn't of Spencer's character been acting a bit strange? If Alex was with Toby, did Spencer and him really share anything? Why was A.D trying to get Aria on there side so bad? Wren??????? It felt really rushed, and it felt like the writers didn't pay attention to detail from the previous seasons.
(a looooot later, sorry) Maya discovered that there was another member in dilaurentis' family, she saw a photo of Charles/Charlotte at her house and then she thought Charles killed Alison.

Maya died by Nate st. Germain, aka Lyndon James, the guy who kissed Emily. Remember when Maya, Emily and her mom were out on dinner? Maya got a text and Emily said "Something wrong?" And Maya responded "Oh it's just my stalker-boyfriend" Maya met Nate/Lyndon at Tru North, where her parents sent her. But she chose Emily over him, and Nate/Lyndon got angry. So when Maya went to Rosewood, Nate/Lyndon followed her, and killed her. Yes, this was the guy who grabbed Maya in that security video Noel sent to Spencer. Basically, Nate/Lyndon killed Maya, because she chose Emily over him. And when Emily and Nate/Lyndon kissed, Nate/Lyndon thought that they had a connection together. But little did he know, Emily still wasn't thinking of him, which got his overaged. Also, the reason why Nate/Lyndon met Emily was because he has been planning to kill her for 2 months. So when they went to the lighthouse, that was the perfect time for Emily to watch Nate/Lyndon to kill Paige (to take away someone she loves, like Nate/Lyndon) but instead Emily killed him instead, as self defense. But but but! When Emily stabbed him, Caleb came and made sure she was ok. Nate/Lyndon grabbed the gun Caleb brought and set on the table, and he SHOT Caleb! At first I didn't know WHAT happened. But then I saw Caleb, and I was like "OMG" That's the true story of Maya.
What I really wanna know is why Aria always had so many clues that pointed to her having Dissociative Identity Disorder. Clues that pointed to her being -A or Red Coat and being a patient at Radley. It would have been an epic twist if Aria and Wren were working together as Charles and Red Coat and revealed to be relatives. Aria and Wren had so much potential to be an epic badass duo. If you haven't noticed, Aria gets away with everything and whatever -A does to Aria ultimately ends up helping her. So much Aria potential was wasted and it does my head in.

Actually, Toby told Emily in the season 2 episode "The First Secret" that his mom died in 2007, so he was already a teenager when she died. Having a pre-teen Bethany be the killer made no sense. Then again, the show is full of plot holes. I mean, why were the identical outfits Mrs. D bought for Ali and Charles the same size when Charles was several years older than Ali?

Am I the only one who thinks that there is a way to connect ALL seasons with a great finale? I mean, A could have been Ezra trying to end his book, he was beach hottie or, at least, is what Alison suggest when they are in new york. That would also explain why Aria ALWAYS stays "safer" in all the A games.

It had Ezra turn out to have been A the whole entire time, and he really was a creep who preyed on underage girls instead of romantacizing the shit out of Ezria! I always thought that Eddie recognized Aria from when she visited Mona in the Radley, and that she told him he can't have remembered her to cover up the fact that she had been seen there before. If she told him she had visited Mona there, he might have been suspicious about her motives to volunteer, and she needed to be unsupervised in order to find what she needed.
Obviously Marlene had no idea what she was doing when ABC Family/Freeform wanted two more seasons of PLL. I saw somewhere online that she wanted Wren to be AD but he wasn't available at the time of the idea and when he was they only had one day to work with him not two like they thought (which is fine). I personally felt like Lucas should of been AD, it would make more sense in my opinion because he was bullied by Ali and all of a sudden he was bff's with Cece also known as Charles/Charolette. I'm still unhappy with the ending but I'm also upset that they will never be back! 😫😫😫😭

Didn't Alex say that when the game ended, she went back to London to be with Wren? and then asked Wren to shoot her. But the game ended in 7X19 but Alex and Toby hooked up in 7x18 and the scar was still there. and dont even try to say it was actually Spencer because Marlene confirmed in an interview that it was Alex at the time.
I'm really disappointed with the finale. I thought that was going to have flashbacks about that night, explain all the mistakes that have, like Alison's bracelet on Bethany, and why the storyline of the facts have Bethany been buried BEFORE Alison in the same grave, I thought someone was lying and was behind all this game since the beginning, but ad just started to be ad after charlotte, ridiculous, mona was definitely working for someone, that is confirmed in the season 2 finale, on the last scene
the last scene with Mona in Season 2 when she says "I did everything you told me to" they explain when Mona says she thought she was talking to Ali at first because of all the meds they had her on during the CeCe/A#2 reveal.. And that was a referrence to when Ali told her everything she needed to do to be popular right before she helped Ali disappear...

So i read this on tumblr and apparently, the police call from mona was fake and the police/her boyfriend(as u can see afterwards in paris) "arrested" both alex and mary for Mona to keep in her dollhouse.

the puzzle pieces were all meant to be "prizes" for playing the game. getting all the puzzle pieces was supposed to end the game. a.d using Emily's eggs was a punishment for Emily not listening I think, and it's actually pretty smart for a.d. to impregnate Alison. Emily was in love with her ever since the first episode. at first alex didn't want to be spencer she just wanted to know who killed cece. then she was lonely and actually wanted to have friends, but she took the advice cece gave her about spencer being horrible, so she was psychotic and pretended to be her. I think wren fell in love because she had the loos of spencer and he did fall for spencer and even commented that he never should have fell for melissa
looks^ and I forgot to mention, I'm sure a.d. thought it would hurt Emily when she found out about the baby since Alison never admitted her feelings for Emily. or maybe a.d. did them a favor just like she did Emily a favor by taking the test she was late for.

What happened with Caleb in ravenswood?
That one kept bugging me? it was so weird how he stayed behind to help that girl, and she uncovered a tombstone that had what looked his twin from another century on it until he shows back up in Rosewood..Where he refused to answer any questions about what had happened to him and that girl it was all very strange and in my opinion it really needed to have been explained in depth instead of just pushed under the rug..
When Caleb stayed in Ravenswood they created a spin-off show called Ravenswood with Miranda and Caleb starring in it, it only lasted one season due to low ratings but if you watch it you see what happened to him there. I've only seen the trailer for it bc it's almost impossible to find anymore but it looks interesting enough. I think it's on Amazon and Hulu.

Ya it a shows but I watch it. Some episodes probably unnecessary. Because There a girl her dreams were talking about the past. It was mainly just talking about the girl with her dreams. And It wasn’t really focussing to Caleb. Overall I would say some episodes was about dreams that mean nothing at the end of the day

But fr can we just talk about how well troian played alex, it was honestly amazing 👏 & yall pissed at alex being a.d honestly if it were wren melissa or someone predictable it wouldn'tve been a massive surprise and alex would only be the character to really have a motive to be a.d but they definitely rushed the finding of spencer , it should've taken them more longer. Other than that I thought it was a great way to end a great show 👍❤️

I agree the evil twin was a good A.D. choice. (Particularly - rather, ONLY - in Spencer's case, tho. If it were any of the other girls' that would just be.... No.) I just wish we had more time to warm up to the idea, or at least had more time with her after the reveal. Besides the fact that we knew the D's and the Hasting's had some messed up history, anyway. At least that was consistent enough to make it more... conceivable.
