There is a lot of bitterness, jealousy and resentment articulated in these posts. The fact remains, however, that the Al Nahyan Family, and their rise to power is a testament to the greatness of their culture and their values. @bauTom well bottom line is , that its true. my friend once asked me do u want to be like one of them ? all the cars all the money ? girls ? yachts etc etc. my reply was im happy the way i am , im actually glad im not like them im self dependant ,i earn what i want the hard way, and actually im contributing something to society which is better than all those u mentioned.
Actually, we have brought well established institutions. The Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, etc in terms of medicare. NYU, MSU, CUD etc in terms of education, Manarat Sadiyaat to keep local culture and the Louvre for foreign ones. So most of what you said is wrong, you have to do is educate yourself in things other than stereotypes The UAE has military academies, infact my mother was trained in one, but the ones abroad are more prestigious and older than the country itself for that matter.
@sphinxofthenewage In my case, it's more than that, I got invited there (expertise in aviation) and still have a good female friend who lives & married there. I could go tomorrow. No thanks. A land where culture, history, and freedom are purposely evacuated would be a waste of my life. And just as you, I am very happy with my achievements, the most valuable of which aren't measured in material terms. I'm also very self-dependent (freedom and relative anonymity are priceless).
@bauTom The experiences, the road, the risks, adventures, critics, challenges, ideas, hardships, victories are what makes this road worth traveling... coz you ain't gonna take 20 cars to your grave and if having had 20 cars is what will make you think your life was well-lived, well... Like seriously, I would get bored to death doing that. I need adventure, excitement in life, not just a paycheck.
