In West Bengal’s Hooghly, the BJP’s Locket Chatterjee and Trinamool Congress candidate Rachna Banerjee are locking horns in a fierce poll battle. The constituency is one of the seven Lok Sabha seats in the state that are set to vote on May 20.
In this episode of Another Election Show, Newslaundry reached Hooghly’s Chandernagore Government College to understand the pulse of the state’s youth and the issues that matter to them. The students spoke about triple talaq, women’s safety, Manipur violence and the Sandeshkhali controversy.
The students said development has taken place under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government but corruption has also increased. Some others said both inequality and GDP have increased.

Being a Bengali I'm disappointed with this generation of students. This is a shame. They're not just ill-informed, they're irresponsible too.

It's very sad to see the students are unaware of the reality.
So sad to see the shift in the thought process of Bengal. It looks like the state has lost its intellect. The sensibility and rationality that the youth of Bengal carried in the 70s have now become the story of the past. It's sad to see jobless youth but most unfortunate is to see the misguided and ill-informed youth. Modi is sensible for women is the greatest farce and those who believe this without even questioning are the abyss of hopelessness.
Most of these students didn't answer the questions asked by the reporter but they gave a general reply instead of actually answering the question. This way,their answers seemed to be all made up in advance. For example, they didn't answer the questions related to Manipur and Revanna.They spoke well only about Bengal related issues.
We are bengali so obviously we care for Bengal more than the rest of India.

We have a long way to go. Everyone has a right to opinion. The disappointment is because they are so ill-informed. If they read sufficient enough with diverse perspectives and reasoned arguments, how will they know what are the ground realities!!! Amazed at the level of and extent of being ill-informed. I also feel that NL needs to probe at least on certain thematic, use the opportunity to let them know how women's safety has gone for a toss... There were several responses on women's safety improved. Using probes to elicit focused views will help. Opportunity to provide them space to revisit their views...

At 25th minute a student boasts about gdp growth the gdp growth doesnt benefit anyone sitting there or listening to rallies the gdp gorwth is distributed very unequally and also a huge portion of the gdp growth showcased is due to government spending in infrastructure development not because our manufacturing in the country has grown and make in india is kinda more like assemble in india just imagine if all make in india and gdp is growth is all huge why is the unemployment rising at all time high because we have a lot of growth in paper not really in a ground level

Having some basic knowledge when you try to explain the history, is good.
From Serampore till Bandel, there were 5 different European settlements in different times. Serampore (Srirampur) was a Dennis settlement, the first printing press of India was set up here. Chandannagore was a French settlement. Chinsurah was a Dutch settlement. Bandel was a Portugese settlement.
All were lost to the British, except Chandannagore. While India got independene in 1947, Chandannagore and Pondichery were made independent and part of India in 1954.
So ill-informed and un-thinking students. Completely disconnected from reality. Eating out of the hands of the media who are completely bought. Compared to these students those in UP and Bihar are much more discerning and articulate. They may not be comfortable in Hindi, but that doesn't stop them from being more aware of their environment. What a shame!

Let me inform you that they all learn french and most of them migrate to France.There is an Alliance Française in Kolkata where the courses are very expensive.These Chandannagar students dominate there because they come after learning french from school level.They are the ones who go to France.In fact this Institution is totally controlled by Chandannagar and outsiders pay lakhs of rupees and don't learn a thing.All the Chandannagar people I've met till date..and there are many,are hindutwa agents and Modi bhakts.They even troll and threaten other learners if,during a discussion they criticise the Central Government.The French Government which is mostly Islamophobic also encourages immigration of these people.

I think that's what happens when you have access of cheap & easy access of internet, but don't know how to get proper information . Or maybe you are so disconnected with ground reality.
