- Weeks before our trip to FL2K and World Cup, Jonathan decided to swap out the trust LT1 engine for a small block Chevy "BowTie Block" on Grubbworm! Gone is the LT1 engine that has pushed our stick-shift Camaro into the 6s seconds last year at Import vs Domestics World Cup Finals and in goes our new Gen 1 Bowtie Small Block Chevy that has received an improved turbo header flanges from Rock Solid Motorsports and turbo piping to accommodate as well as a new advanced clutch billet adjustable clutch! A new set of Hoosier drag radials instead of the MTs we usually run due to supply issue. A lot of hard work has gone into this F-body Camaro and we can't wait to see how well it pays off at domestic vs. imports World Cup Finals!

I admire your guys determination and doing more with less! SBC ftw.
Because your the exact same way brother lol
Knew you’d love this billy when I think SBC I think of the S10. You the man dude.
I have just started following your channel. Your car/setup is amazing!
6.615sec at 216.41mph was INCREDIBLE!
"1st gen SBC, single turbo, smallish cubic inches, stick shifted h-pattern shifter" giving the big guys a run for it.
By far the best showing at the track that day!
@boumahdi بومهدي I think I read somewhere it was like 329 or close to it
@boumahdi بومهدي it's a 348 cu. in. Motor
He destroked the motor with 327 crank but the pistons are larger. That’s how he spins 9k rpms and like he said lower torque because torque is what kills parts and clutches etc.
awesome car I just love when you do more with less! Something about that is more appealing!
I didn't know Grubbworm lives 5 minutes from my house. I'm amazed!!!
I guess you can't say the old conventional small block is dead....HELL YEA 💪👍👏
I met Jonathan and his father Johnny at World Cup in 2018...what gentlemen.... and very knowledgeable...Grubb Worm is my favorite Car!
We have Super Man Now we have Super Worm Great job 💪💪💪💪😁
After seeing you race Cleetus there is no way I could not find your channel!
Can’t wait to see it at World Cup in 3 weeks
You are a legend. Glad I got to meet/talk with you at LTX Shootout 2020.
Absolutely amazing what you guys accomplished with a conventional LT1 based engine, it’s awesome to see someone push a left for dead engine to that level. 👍🏻
I know I wanna build an Lt1 now! Ofcourse not this radical but turbo with the 327 crank and spin that thing to 8k at the track and turn some heads!
@@terryfonz4603
That would be cool, unfortunately the one piece rear main seal 3.250 crank is going to be expensive, not sure if such a crank even exists without being custom made…
Grubb worm u guys fisherman.....I love that Camaro...if it could it would sprout wiiings...that car is so fast....man....geterdone
Pretty crazy what you guys did with the lt1 block!! Looks like that new setup
Is puttin in work!!!
Seen you couple times from watching Cleetus didn't realize yall had a channel but glad I found it.. shout out to your team got that car flying much respect
Man soon as I saw you at FL2K I was blown away with how fast you got that H pattern going. I'm subscribed now and can't wait to see what you do next.
Love this car! 6.61 is an awesome accomplishment in a stick car. Congrats.
Should have tried to find a bowtie lt1 block. They made a few of them. Big fan of the lt1, sad to see it go. Good luck with the sbc.
Rock solid puts you guys authentic front of the line
Didn't know y'all had a Chanel! This is awesome!
I’m always amazed at how quickly people dismiss Gen I &II’s, when I fact it is the most winningest engine in history! Almost reminds me of EV idiots looking down there nose at others, believing their superior to everyone else!
Congrats on building a complete combo that runs so well, it sure doesn't sound like small cubic inches, it sounds like a VERY evil small block, actually a big block, and to do that through a turbine wheel and sound like is that is amazing!! Good Luck at WC!!!
Great video!
Thank you!
Big inspiration for me. Thank you for your hard work!
Great showing at FL2K, subbed!
Idk how you guys don't have more followers and viewers. What you are accomplishing is mind blowing. From one enthusiast to another congrats guys. Keep pushing on!
Because he's a prick !!!
Interesting vid John, great idea going smaller on the stroke. Nice work
I've always was a fan of Grubb Worm, but the race against Cleetus was telling. Mullet got the jump but our guy ran around him and stretched him by 10 mph with a much smaller engine and one less turbo!
You forgot one... SHIFTING lol that race was badass 🦅🇺🇸
And Cleetus went 6.5x in a car he drove over 4,000 miles on the streets. Grubbworm meanwhile getting trailer rides everywhere it goes. Two totally different cars and both are badass.
Nobody cares!
Don’t get me wrong I love the grubbworn it’s a badass car man! Cleetus’s elco weighs a lot more I think. So I think it’s impressive from both points of view.
see how Cleetus's Leroy cart does against Grubworm that is a full race car now with a H pattern 4 speed.
Awesome work guys looking forward to WCF.
Thanks for the awesome video!
I love to watch this car run. As fast as you’re going in a small block stick car is incredible. All the best with the new set up. Hope to see it run in person at some point.
Great video, interesting to see what challenges there are with different platforms. But it appears you have it sorted out!
You did amazing at fl2k. I am always thoroughly impressed with you guys
Awesome video.. congratulations on the new record.. you have a killer car 😎💪💪
2 thumbs up! Sad to see the LT1 go though
New sub here after watching you guys take on Cleet. Seeing your monster go up against Leroy will be something else- I'd PPV to see that. Best of luck at World Cup!
Keep up the good work !
I think that block has proven itself already lol great job… side note people keep comparing 2 cars that sit totally different for their own reasons 🙄
Car is jus straight BADASS!
Incredible
congrats
North Carolina in tha house
Did I see a factory t56 crossmember? That’s awesome
Man I love this car!
More videos like this one please
3 manual gear shifts in 6 seconds, that's business... but also precision driving. Amazing work mate.
Not sure people realize how much power an auto trans & converter soaks up.
If your clutch will allow you to shift your manual quick & the whole setup can withstand your power/traction you are bound to go faster/quicker as manual.
But they sure can be a handful to drive well, 10 outa 10 there mate.
Spectacular sounds making a pass.
cheers from Sunny Queensland Australia. Now I'll go sub...
Seeing that car go 6.61 at 216 beside a sick ass big block Elco with twins, then realizing Grubbworm is an H-Pattern car beside ol Cleet in the air shifted 400... 😳 Cookin...
Bet Mullet weighs at least 700-800 lbs more than Grubworm and possibly closer to 1000 lbs. Not taking away from the performance of the car but weight makes a HUGE difference. Mullet needs a lot more power as it is a heavy, drag and drive car.
@boumahdi بومهدي 348inch motor
The worm that could.
They were mounting headers in a similar manner on F5000s, Sprintcars and other cars using 1.7/8 headers in the early 70s. Generally now everyone uses 1 3/4. Drag racing needs are foreign to most other branches of motorsport.
Though at least you are using a real Chev unlike those odd Chevs with only 4 bolts per hole cylinder heads
is that a tilton slave cylinder?
what kind of master is on the car? i got yalls adjustable master awesome product
Nice. #!!! 🎃
So is it still a reverse cool headed motor or is it now a gen 1 sbc longblock running a 24x? I’ve always wanted by an aftermarket block and do a gen 1 setup with the 24x as parts are readily more available, but have never actually seen it done, if that’s what this is you just made my year, wife my hate you now but hell I’ll be happy as all hell if that’s what this is..
I had no idea you have a old style smallblock in it
Ooh wee hot digging dog
The headers sitting on the table are the being used? If not would you be interested in selling them or have an old set you’d be willing to sell that’s for a 4th gen lt1 car, if so please let me know, I’ve been looking for a set with not much luck
Wat engine are u running is it still lt1 based
Lt1 fan from the start and will always be a gen2 sbc lover #4life, in the future have you consider or have any thought to switch to auto, I’m curious to see how fast they lt1 can go has auto, nonetheless I’ll always support grubworm 💪🏻💪🏻
We don't have any plans to go auto.
@@jonathanatkins5199 you do have an auto car too though, right? I thought I heard that mentioned in one of Rock Solid's videos.
@@jonathanatkins5199 I was hoping you'd say that.
@@lb9gta307 RSM is building a 99 TA chassis for me right now that has been back and forth between manual and auto over the years. I've owned it since 2002. It will be a stick car when it comes back out though. No more auto stuff for me.
Wait crap they sent bad pistons did they not measure correct or something? What type of pistons!?
Is Grubworm now running something like a 347ci (4.125 x 3.25) ? I noticed that 'DeStroked' and bigger Bore was part of the conversation in the video. Or is it a 372cu (4.125 x 3.48) ?
It has a 4.130" bore and 3.250" stroke so it's 348 cubes.
It s taken out ,not took out. What do they teach down there in English classes?
With all the problems you’ve had with the header flanges is there any reason why you don’t use symmetrical heads?
Could you even get symmetrical heads for the reverse flow deal? I know theres not many options for the gen 2's.
We cracked a trick flow head in 2019 and didn't want to change the headers/turbo kit so I purchased the Brodix heads to replace them. As it turned out, we had to replace the headers anyway because the Brodix heads have a raised exhaust port lol.
Did you back out of the gas on that race with grannas at fl2k ?
Unfortunately, I missed 4th gear.
I’m a grub worm fan. What is the bore and stroke? Thanks
4.130" bore and 3.250" stroke for 348 cubic inches.
@@jonathanatkins5199 Awesome thanks
Is it called called Grubb Worm because it's a "catfish"?
How many LT blocks has this car seen?
In the 5 years I have owned this car, it has had 3 engine blocks including the one that it came from the factory in 1997 with. All were running well when removed, but they had cracks forming from a head fastener hole into a bore. Last year we did some tricks that prevented that block from cracking, and we ran it all year this year as well until we swapped to the Bowtie block a couple of weeks before FL2k.
What stroke are you running on it?
3.250"
So the car is not an LT1 anymore?
No
Are the heads spread port?
No
what makes them spread port or not? I had always thought it was just the different header flange 3 bolt center. do they move the ports around any for spread port?
Yes, a spread port flange has the two middle exhaust ports spaced an extra 1/2" or so apart.
ahh I never knew that.
how much does grubb weight?
2800 lbs with driver
@@jonathanatkins5199 thanks
damn it stop the click bait! its cool to see basically an sbc run 6s. Was hoping youd LS swap it lmao
I wish I had your $,, I'd give out Lessons.
