Let me tell you about a conversation I had with my surgeon, over 30 years ago, when I was having a hernia repair. He told me that if it weren't for his private work he would be sitting on his hands a lot of the time for want of a free operating theartre. Does anyone think things have got better since then? This is the kind of thing neither Labour nor the Tories will tell you about.
Sometimes doctors have to work 7 days a week, nights, weekends and holidays... I'm glad that I chose to start working 3 days a week. 25 years of the grind was enough. I'm not in the UK, though.
WFH and 5 years ago, there would be 1 or 2 at most ambulance sirens a day. Now it's 4 to 5 Something must have happened since, but I'm baffled on what...
To many people in country that doesnt have the infrastructure in place to deal with it. No matter how many migrants legal or illegal, they are not joining the NHS to become nurses GPS or surgeons. Half of the people in the NHS staff in some areas can barely speak english, leading to miscommunication, which when it comes to peoples health is not a good idea. It need to be less time doing a degree and more time hands on training and stop saddling students with ridiculous debt.
Many will probably be doing private work. Many GPs are part time. During Covid when you couldnt get an appointment or visit GPs were happy in the clinics doing Covid jabs many came out of retirement. They need to weed out all the frequent attendants who visit tneir GP when it isnt needed.
3 days a week for HIS/HER NHS job The other days you can find him elseway It’s the consequence of NHS pay being lower than private practice but still employing 90% of the workforce
Hilarious. The NHS has been on holiday and still is. Telephone appointment: Doctor said that I had a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics. Umm, apparently it was a severe heart disease and I needed immediate action because time was against me. The NHS is a joke. Mañana is their favourite word.
I went to medical school. My brother started working at age 16. He was streets ahead of me financially after the 7 years that it took me to start earning money. Never ever would I choose that path nowadays.
Cottage hospitals and GP surgeries used to do a lot of minor procedures. Now, you just get added to a list, if you're lucky enough to have an ailment on their list.
I better not get ill any more, but quietly just fade away as I get deeper into my old age. Obviously I need to make space for all of our new immigrants to let them see our English paid for and trained doctors. I’m sure it is good use of all of the taxed income of 47 years, that I contributed towards.
Yea and the drs and nurses in the hospitals do MORE! GPs are the gateway to treatment and dont get me started on the receptionists that you can get past. It stresses me out trying to get access to my gp. Then theres my friends dad who last week dropped dead at the age of 53 because he was fobbed off with the pain he had in his chest over a period of 2 years was anxiety
If that's the case then how is he managing to fit in another 2 days working elsewhere 40 hours working as a doctor then 2 days doing something else that's not as doctor he's clocking up the hours.rhought they were overworked and stressed.
No it didnt the damage was done by Blair saddling the nhs with pfi debt. My local new hospital opened in 2010. Not fit for purpose on day 1. Less than half the beds we used to have but double the population in the last 20 yrs. it has a half a billion debt on it due to pfi but without the workload to pay for it
No Labour are to blame. They agreed the working hours of Doctors when last in Government, hence all GPs now work part time, whilst complaining about how much they get paid.
The NHS has saved my life a few times and I'm very grateful. But there's an awful lot of improvement to be made, there's so much time and money wasted. One example the day you leave hospital normally you signed off by a doctor in the morning then you have to wait for your medication, which can be all day like 5pm sometimes taking up a bed space it's madness
Many of you here don’t understand They are not paid on the basis of having to work 3 days a week They are still paid per hour of work. However it is possible to negotiate a contract with the NHS to work 3 days instead of full time. It gives you a stable income with the added benefit of more time for private practice/locum which pays more So you guys can bitch about this choice they made but that’s their choice. They don’t need your opinion to decide where and how they have to work
after my "pathway" planning to get cancer cut out I think they need someone that can plan a quicker and more effecient path. Like a gps going via timbuktu to go to the local shop when its down the street.
Keir will sort it all out , he’s going to roll up his sleeves ( or is it his trouser legs) , either way he’s going to speak to them about their 30% rise
Why on earth can’t we agree a proper wage structure for nurses and doctors. The health of the Nation depends on r the NHS. So we cannot take normal increases. In isolation. If many are off work due to lack of attention.which are now in the millions here must be double the priority. . Even then the pay levels of junior doctors needs to be brought up to date.
My mum worked in the Canterbury telephone exchange in the late 50’s. The exchange serviced the whole of Kent. On an average day they would receive one 999 call per day in Kent. Look where we are now. A fat, sick population, eating crap, sitting in front of the tele and then complaining when the NHS is overwhelmed. Take responsibility for your own health. My wife works in a GP surgery. One of the doctors comes in every day half an hour after her first appointment. Every day! Neil,Oliver interviewed an ex NHS consultant surgeon. He explained in detail how he drastically reduced his own waiting list. Then the senior consultant said to him stop what you’re doing, we need to keep the waiting lists high so I can do private work as well. The NHS is a business. Good health starts in the kitchen, not a hospital. Hospitals are truly awful places, designed to promote sickness.
There is a common misconception that you need to keep giving pay rises, trouble with that mentality is that people are never satisfied. The real issue is how do you lower the cost of living, this is really more important and everyone benefits. (I’ve never seen a poor doctor but I’ve seen lots of wealthy ones).
They have just found blood in my stool and I’ve had mid to high cancer cells already removed was cleared after 4 years but now because I’ve had issues again I’m being tested again I’m now 45 I have a 20 year old son on the autistic spectrum and mental health I value my health so I’m caring to care for him and in there for my husband And to help my 76 year old father who has diabetes and lost my mother in 2020 I have to many people to think about to now have my health dealt with We get no help with social care for my son or father I won’t ask for help especially with my father as they might take his house away to pay for his care since they do that to all the elderly in this country even through his paid thousands in tax all his life and national insurance it’s disgusting You care for the you’re family because it’s out of love for them it’s hard when you never have a break and you get no help
GPs should be working 5 days a week .just like the rest of us. In France £2000 for hip replacement surgeon £500. Private insurance UK Doctors in this country are greedy greedy. Uk hip replacement £38000.00 pure greed.
Before stopping work i worked 103hr average week, everybody today seems to think they will get by well by working 40hrs a week, no wonder the older generation are wealthier than there kids, work ethic is in decline today, babysitting mobile phone toys like pacifiers, "dummy's", time to get harder on folk, life in Britain has become too good and everybody is blind to it, they thought this was normal. There is nothing worse than living life with no ambition, give the people the incentive to prosper and start by closing down social media.
They have become lazy and picky since COVID my parents were medical professionals they never went on strike they worked long hours these doctors and nurses are becoming work shy
Its strange but if you actually pay people enough money per hour they choose to see their families and work less. That should allow you to recruit two for one so its rather a recruiting problem…
Starmer with the NHS i shudder with labor .At the wheel ,GP with other jobs no way you local docs i have only seen my doc once in 30 years and my doc surgery has got darker they come and they get the clip board come out enough said about that
@robertstallard7836 yes they sure could ,but they wouldn't be doctors then would they. So assuming it was their choice to become doctors they should show up a little bit more and practice doing the very thing
Cut their salary to reflect what they do, I do think gP's are overpaid compared to hospital doctors who work long hours, since covid the working from home has become too comfy, get back to 5 days a week 8 till 6pm or even 7
70% of people seen the same or next day, what planet does he live on. I’d like to move there. They only need to work park time since they practically wrote their own contracts.
Yes! As a doctor, I started working part time for part salary a year and a half ago and it was the best decision I've ever made (after 25 years working full-time+). I'm not in England, but it's the same everywhere.
Drs are not real drs anymore, they are just glorified receptionists, if you have a problem they send you to see a professional lmao doesn’t say much for the modern gp does it, glorified receptionists 😂😂😂
the NHS, as great as it is, is one of the largest employers IN THE WORLD, because it has one of the highest manager to operative rations ever seen, trim the fat at the top, sack the timewasters , there are many use the management structure more effectively. pay the BRITISH doctors and nurses more, vote reform
Everything in our country needs reform
But not the reform party.
Reforming yes absolutely
Sounds crazy but what's wrong with a 5 day working week like most of us.
The last Labour government agreed the working hours of Doctors with the unions, hence they all work part time.
Let me tell you about a conversation I had with my surgeon, over 30 years ago, when I was having a hernia repair. A good chat Mr. Graham..thank you.
Great Mike so funny. You are spot on they are not doing what they are supposed to do.
Mike Graham you are a star 🌟
No, they need to work five. Lazy.
Not lazy, but smart. I know because I only work three days a week. 🎉 Best decision I ever made.
Reform UK. Save your Country Great Britain. love from America 🇺🇲🇺🇲
Doctors need to work 5 days a week like the rest of us !
They used to work 6days week used to see 👀 a doctor on a Saturday, and they used to do house calls .
No. The rest of us need to be paid enough to choose to be able to work part time…
@robertstallard7836 dont vote labour then. They want to reinforce part time working. Its the well paid that can take advantage…
I work four days a week but I do longer days I think a four day working week should be available for everyone where possibly but not six half days
Sometimes doctors have to work 7 days a week, nights, weekends and holidays... I'm glad that I chose to start working 3 days a week. 25 years of the grind was enough. I'm not in the UK, though.

Vote Reform to get our country back
How can it be a million people a day? Surely that’s wrong? Within 70 working days they’ve seen the whole population lol that can’t be right lol
Vote Reform!!
