    Hey everyone!
Thank you for the update on the instrument in the video! I love to learn about this 😁
It’s similar to the erhu in design and sound, however I appreciate its actual name and origin here. Thank you for educating me!

Dimash is no longer just a singer, and he actually stopped being one a while ago. He is an influencer and Qairan Elim is an amazing example of it. He could have had a good and relatively easy life performing in Almaty opera house (or any other opera house in the world on that matter), but he chose a different direction, so different that we could even say unprecedented. He is channeling his talent towards something that nobody has ever done before. He is not just leaving a foot print, he is actually changing minds, and mark my words, his voice isnt the only gift he has. He is a genius and knows (now) how to captivate our attention.

I stunningly beautiful Masterpiece with such a powerful message not just for his homeland but for the World. To me the last few seconds of the video says it all. From the dark it pans to sunlight and greenery.

I saw an interview with the. O-director of the video, and he said that what Dimash wanted was a song that everyone can relate to, about achieving peace from all the angry and violent past. He uses his country's history, but the song applies to any country and to your personal processes. Lots of symbolism in the video, too. For me, it is a masterpiece.

Adam, he has taken us to another dimension and his thoughts will always be with us. History, worry and hope cannot be denied. He prayed for his homeland but included the earth as well. Can we survive challenges to peace in the future? Will love conquer? Will countries contribute their cultural diamonds to all and share feelings of togetherness? Can tension and strife be massaged before destruction explodes? Is Dimash, indeed, a messenger of love and hope?

Another great reaction. I really enjoy your analysis and commentary. The piano player in the video wrote the music. Dimash has lost two of his mentors to covid. Early on, the lyrics talk about hardships tempering a person. Tempering is how you strengthen steel by putting it in fire to make it strong - so even though in the video Dimash and the pianist didn't survive to see the new dawn, symbolized by the color of the mountains, and by switching to a major chord at the end, their efforts helped make it possible.
The song is called «Oh, my sacred land». Dimash sings in Kazakh. The song is dedicated not only to Dimash's homeland - Kazakhstan but also to the entire planet Earth. Earth is the birthplace of all humanity. The ancient Kazakh instrument KOBYS has two strings and makes mystical sounds. When Dimash "burns" it means that his soul can "burn" for the sake of the Motherland. Blood runs, it means that you can shed blood for the Motherland. It's an allegory. Filming took place in Kazakhstan. This song is prayer! Prayer for our land, for the people, for our children: "The universe help humanity!".
/// Before the song, the older narrator (but it's not Dimash's voice) speaks: «The Great Steppe! Ek loof jou genade lande. I praise your vast expanses from Altai to Atyrau, from Yayi to Ili, from Alatau to Saryarka. They are silent witnesses to my happy times. I praise the Great Steppe, the cradle of the mighty Turkic world. Hey, silent world! Don't be silent, holding your breath. There are descendants behind you.
Nothing stopped them in times of severe litigation and contractions. The Great Steppe has generous masters who have not broken down or exhausted before the dodgy temper of the fickle world. Their hearts are magnanimous and the souls are noble. They have a patron, about whom no stranger and whom no stranger feels».

Dimash has long expressed his deep love of country and of the world. For me, he is at his stunning best in his traditional Kazakh songs, and when he bridges those deeply weeping instruments into newer ones, as in Quairin Elim. Samaltau and Daididau are two richly beautiful songs I highly recommend. This young man, only 26, is the soul of his country, resonating the ages past and the hope of future.

I guess this is one of the most honest music videos I've ever seen... No frame without meaning, sincerity in every sound... And it hits you like a truck! Not the most brilliant, stunning vocals, no brilliant runs and whistle notes (what for...), rough and somewhat simple, somehow like an improvised song, born out of the sadness of a moment... So fragile, emotional, honest, clearly showing sadness, despair, hope, believe... Kudos to Dimash Kudaibergen and his team for this gem. Stay safe, my Dear, see you again 💜

After watching sos and at that going to Wikipedia and reading his accolades, experience and education I felt that he was involved in not just the singing in sos. The instruments, lighting, and camera work were to perfect. After all all the contestants were professionals only there by invite. Dimash hadbeen an actor on three tv shows in Russia, China, and Khakastan. Sinful passion song writer and who played the piano and the other members of AStudio band played the instruments ..the original video was completely different and written inthe late 90’s. Dimash collared with AStudio to make his version. People ask if he produced. What do you think he’s been doing during the coronavirus in his studio. He was at the Tokyo jazz festival, recorded across endless dimensions, re-recorded sos another time. I’ve said all this that it’s no surprise that his name suddenly comes up as director on this masterpiece. Could be up for best short foreign short film at the academy. Best foreign music video at mtv awards. Best new artist at Grammys. Best foreign song at Grammys. Best cinematography. He also did we are one music video. The art just keeps spilling out of him. A new talent directing. No surprise. I keep wondering how did his parents who have their titles and talents raise a child prodigy that showing talent in so many mediums. How did they have the money to pay for all the lessons. Was he ADD? I’m not saying he was but those children are everywhere all at once. Were the parents in the other room when the heard a new instrument being played? What did they do? How did they guide him? Parents with prodigy children have guide and guard them against outside forces of influence. It’s not that I say well I know dimash has this range so I won’t be surprised this time. But he does it to me every time. surprise!!!

After watching this, you might want give his Performance of "Samaltau" as part of the Tokyo Jazz Festival 2020 a shot. You cannot help seing his patriotism in Songs like Quairan Elim and "Samaltau". This is where he grounded firmly and because of that, its - at least for some years to come - unlikely for him to develop airs and grances, if you will. Its a very unique gift, teamed up with his love for singing and his willingness to put the effort into becoming good into it, which makes him this good. Its a unique set of perks and characteristic traits, and a LOT of work, which make him what he is.

At the beginning of the video say the words:
The Great Steppe... I praise your rich lands. Altai and Atyrau, Zhaiyk and Ili, Alatau and Saryarka - what expanses of my native land that has witnessed my happy years! I am talking about the Great Steppe - the golden cradle of the Turkic world.
Hey, silent world! Do not hold your breath!
You have descendants who never hesitated and did not stand aside during fierce disputes and confrontations. This land has an owner - a kind character and generous soul of whom could not spoil or break this changeable world with its distorted values. The Great Steppe has a guardian spirit, unknown to a stranger, incomprehensible to an outsider.

      TRANSLATION voiceover of
      PATRIARCH-AKSAKAL for RUSSIAN LANGUAGE:
      Great Steppe!
I telling about your boundless horizons,
Stretching to all directions of the world.
I will tell about the endless latitudes of my Fatherland,
By the glorious generous grace of the land
Altai and Atyrau, Zhaiyk(Ural) and Ili,
Alatau and Sary-Arka in epoch-making times.
Great Steppe, I will tell ...
From time immemorial you have been
      Ancestral Cradle
      Nomad of the Great Türks.
      Oh, the world of silence!
Do not hide the breath of time in yourself!
You have descendants who have matured
And not broken in the carnage of battles,
In competitions with horse racing wars.
A changeable series of rabid times
I walked through ruin without depleting
      Noble endurance of spirit,
The generosity of the soul and the mind of freedom.
The Great Steppe has Shrines (Amulets-Patrons)
About which others do not know and do not know …

Exceptional job for a first timer in directing this music video, any form of art is certainly in his blood,...the message was for all of us, life without struggles is meaningless, but we have to try to endure and surpass them all, since dimash is so concern to what was happening on our planet earth ( not only to his beloved country, I’ve watched him mentioning these things on one of his interviews way way back) he encouraged everyone to pray and wait for the good news to come..❤️🧓🏼🇵🇭

Kazakh Kobyz, not a Chinese fiddle.
“Since ancient times, Kobyz has been a sacred instrument that reflects the soul of people. Renat Gaisin’s song “Qairan Elim” was born during our visit to Almaty. When writing the song, we all tried to understand the whole idea of the song. At the request of the author and Dimash, we started by recording kobyz. I started to improvise on the instrument, and in the end, during the recording, something really beautiful and magical came out. I was very impressed by the project. This is a huge creative experience for me. I hope that all listeners will like the song” - said kobyzist Olzhas Kurmanbek in DDimashNews.

  • @FluffysMum

The instrument is a not chinese but Kazakh Kobyz a 5,000 year old cello like two stringed instrument. The language is Kazach, his country has a history of turmoil and Dimash is very anti war. The song is basically a prayer for peace. The band you are thinking of are the Mongolian metal band the Hu 😄♥️

Thank you for a great, very thoughtful reaction. 🤗 Dimash is honing his range of skills all the time. He is multi talented, a musician as well as a great singer, and has a clear artistic vision and a determination to challenge the world to work towards peace. This was very much in the style of Samaltau, with the same message and use of beautiful instrumentals, but this feels more like a prayer to me. His vibrato is extraordinarily emotional and touches the soul deeply, and that cry... gorgeous! He is working on a Kazakh album which I can't wait to hear. I think this song was an impulsive artistic collaboration (from what I've read), which became a brilliant project. Stunning ✌️💛

It seems Dimash wants to spread the message of peace in the world (starting from peace in his homeland). This is not the first time he is channeling his desire to contribute to the world peace. He also has composed the song about saving the world by avoiding war, that is "War and Peace". This song is my fav, due to unique melodies and great lyric/message (lyric is in Chinese by Chinese song writer/poet). Here is the link to recent performance of this song live from his Arnau Tour in Kiev: czcams.com/video/b8VmgKy6yfc/video.html (has English and Spanish sub).

Samaltau is a wonderful folkloric song by Dimash that I think you will absolutely love. It is from the point of view of a man ripped away from his family in a Kazakh settlement on the steppes and put on an enforced march to fight in the army for a cause he knows nothing about. He never sees his aged parents, his wife or children again. It is part of Kazakh history and happened to many people in 1916. There is a lovely studio version showing the instrumentalists and Dimash sitting cross legged on a stool - very beautiful particularly the incredible sound effects from the stringed instrument at the beginning. A second video made by an artist fan shows a storyboard to illustrate the lyrics. Very much worth watching that one too as it totally brings the story home. Maybe a double reaction with both videos would be good?
Thank you for your great reactions. I am watching every one and appreciate all your hard work and for introducing me to such wonderful music.

One of Dimash’s most emotional performances is “Daybreak.” The song is based on a tragic cable car accident in China (in 1999?). As the cables started breaking, the parents of a 2-year-old boy lifted him to someone on the loading platform moments before they and 12 others fell to their deaths. The song was written from the viewpoint of the child. Very moving!

💕🌷💕🌷 When I first saw this MV, I was deeply moved. Ever since I “met” Dimash, I’ve been researching everything about him and his country. I have gone to visit Kazakhstan twice already. The intro part was about all the tribulations and suffering that Kazakhstan has gone through over its history. That part where he throws out that high note, well I went there too! I remember exclaiming to myself, oh! I was there on horseback !! If you ever get the chance, do go on a trip there. Kazakhstan is one of the few countries left where there are still large swaths of nature yet not teeming with tourists.

Love that you noticed the glimpse of colour at the end 👍🏻. It’s a vocal prayer for Kazakhstan ( and the world ) from the tribal wars and occupation and colonialisation to Covid-19 ravaging his homeland today. One of his many powers is his ‘cry’ as you say which draws you in. It gets very close to despair, but ends on the strengthened colour to show tangible hope . His cry is “why?” In such a beautiful nation can’t peace prevail and everything of beauty is burnt, killed or destroyed even with the strength and determination of his people ( the piano player ) to endure to the bitter end to hold true to who the6 are, their culture and identity. Not a belter song some go looking for ( including me who’s seen everything he’s ever done ! Lol ) but a timely sharing by this special and important top tier stand-out creative all-rounder artist, once in a generation. Great watching with you and your thoughts 🙏

He does have another Kazakh song you may like called ' Samaltau'.

Hi Adam! He was really crying without crying, his voice is weeping without tears. However I do cry instead of him. I agree this is a praying for a better world. Since beginning of time, human always communicate with the nature (the earth, the sky, the mountain, the lake, the wind, the fire, the living), especially when tragedy strikes. It’s very much different with today society, but there is always the urge inside us to return to the peace of nature.
