With the Source 2 Engine finally being officially announced, I expect exciting news soon about how it's going to change today's and tomorrow's games. In this video I look at CS GO and whether it will be upgraded for the Source 2 engine. Please note that this is all speculation based on what I know, what Valve has done in the past and a number of hunches. This video is intended as entertainment and not a solid, factual account of what Valve is going to do, and as always, some of what I say may be wrong and stupid. Enjoy!

This feels so fascinating to watch again, like those old videos where people think in 8 years we will get Flying Cars and teleportation
I'd argue we got MUCH more than anyone expected. In 8 years we got real-time path-tracing graphics and GPT-4 with sparks of AGI. Nobody expected any of those 2 breakthroughs in such short amount of time. It may not be teleportation but it's pretty up there. CS2 is not one of those tho haha.
@@samot1808 Depending on who you would have asked, the prediction is usually going to be a lot greater than that. We have all this tech but it's going to cost more jobs that probably won't be gotten back by using the tech. We had one of the greatest financial downturns in years and people were socially isolated more than they perhaps have ever been during that time. And as to the tech itself, ignoring the negatives, I don't think it's nearly as close to AGI as is being hyped. There is a good future for some with these things but as with many of these changes the majority will lose out.
@@amentco8445 Oh I wasn't saying it is good or bad, just that we got these technological breakthroughs much earlier than anticipated.
While not AGI yet I think it's difficult to overhype. I sometimes think there will be no other milestone as big as GPT3 in the road to full AGI. While technologically there might be a long road ahead to reach true AGI, in practical terms GPT4 can already mimic human conversation convincingly in most "everyday" situations.

128 tick is so important for proper bhopping! and i agree. but the netcode in valve games is supreme.

TF2 begs to be ported. A damn CPU heavy game running on an engine that's limited to 2 cores.

It will be good if porting to source engine 2:
*improve the registration
*improve performance
*improve the bhop mechanic
*improve graphics (not just by making them prettier, but by improving the colors and the contrast of characters and scenary)
*improve sound (its hard to diferenciate sounds coming from behind and from the front)
*OMG my skins are even prettier now!!!1! I better go open some more crates (the avegare csgo player will think)
it wil be bad if:
*it messes with the movement and physic of the granades (I don't want to have to learn again the 100 granade throws I have in mind)
*the visuals become even worse (in regards to being able to see the enemy in some map locations) just so it can be "prettier"
*it becomes so different that the original "feel" of the game is lost

Exactly Rainbow Six Siege. The only problem with DMM, RSS's destruction system, and Source's user made fake DMM is that they are either slow or inaccurate. However, voxels could change this. Sure, they will never perfectly represent reality, but they have to potential to be very close.
So Philip wasn't late on CS2 hype, he actually was 8 years ahead!

Why would we need perfomance boost in CSGO? My computer is like 2 years older than CSGO and I get consistent 300fps+. Game is already resource efficient enough, I think they won't risk fucking the game up and spend money on basically redeveloping the game the exact same way in a new engine, it makes no sense.
GTX 570 + i5. So it's pretty decent components even though a bit old by now. People who have trouble getting above 120fps probably have even older or lower tier components, components that most likely won't be supported by or gain any performance from Vulkan.
Otingokni Just a word of advice, i5 is not a sufficient enough way to explain what processor you have since i5 covers a broad range of processors. The quality and power of the processor vary greatly between models and generations.

You are missing my point. The point is 300 fps for a rig that is 2 years older than the game I am playing is beyond acceptable.
I'm pretty sure Intel always aims to give their customers the same quality, top quality. Age != quality.
The performance difference between the the generations since they introduced the "i5 and i7 format" are marginal at best in gaming scenarios. 5-10 fps tops usually if you look at benchmarks, 15 fps in worst case scenarios but that's in poorly made games. I wouldn't call that great variation. The major advancements have been in TDP(energy efficiency) and die shrinks . I have a first generation i5, an i5 760 clocked at 4.0 GHz if you're curious. My friend has a 2500k and the same GPU as me and we get the same FPS in most titles.
However bigger performance gains can be noticed between the generations when looking at other scenarios that utilize and rely more on the CPU. For example Movie rendering, encoding, compression and so on.
i agree. Only thing that can get better with the fps is the consisently and make sure there are no small stuttering. max fps doesnt need to get better.
Otingokni cs is cpu based and cpu's havent gotten a lot better in a long time so thats why a 2 year old computer runs it without problems.

crazy to think that 8 whole years ago source was already being called "old" and "bloated" and people were wishing for a source 2 port. and that 8 years ago source 2 was already technically "released" in dota 2. it took valve 8 years to port this game. i guess thats valve for you
Dota 2 uses a mix of Source 1 and Source 2 tech, at least for its rendering. Source 2 wasn't finished at that time. CS2 uses Source 2 rendering, and is also the first FPS game on the engine, so a lot of work had to be done just on the engine itself.
Source 2 was deemed complete by Valve in 2020 with Half Life: Alyx's release, which is when they started to work on CS2 according to one of the developers. so it took them 3 years

I really do hope that Valve create the right feel in Source 2. What I didn't like about CS:GO for the most part is the static items, cant jump on top of a lot of things, and when you touch walls, it doesn't feel like you're actually touching them, as if there's a small invisible wall in the way of them. It's hard to explain. It's sort of in Portal 2 as well.
I hope Source 2 achieves the feel that Half-Life 2 or CS:S had, but make it even better.
Are you talking about player clips? Or the general gap of the camera [the location of your POV] and the environment brushes [walls, etc.]. (Example, you can't get the camera so close to the wall that it will black the screen.)

Hey 3kik so i play on a shity laptop at about 120 fps on average with most settings low will source 2 lower my fps or make it so my laptop can no longer handle the game?
I have a feeling it'll improve your FPS alot. Source 2 is way more optimized and modern than Source 1.
