Can the Chinese Communist Party Rule for Another 100 Years?

  • The Chinese Communist Party, celebrating its 100th anniversary on July 1st, is in the process of reinvention. This transformation is putting the party at the forefront of China’s youth who, at 400-600 million strong, forms the backbone of China’s future. This is a transformation of both China’s self-perception and its relations with the world - especially the West - and the party’s ability to steer it will determine the party’s longevity as the governing party of the most populous nation in the world. In this conversation, Eric X. Li talks about the past, present and future of the Communist Party of China. Moderated by FCC President Keith Richburg.

I understand why he is frustrated in defending China, it's like a kid who got 100 percent in exams and yet kept been asked by another kid who used to get high marks instead of asking HOW he got the high marks, all the questions are about whether he cheated, whether his mom helped him, whether he bribed teacher to get the mark. IT IS INSULTING. I want to see one day China does it to the US.

It is working. That's how democracy works STUPID. Everyone is given a voice and an opinion about which political party best reflects their own opinions and would then governed for a determined number of years before the next election. The people can either elect the same party members again or if dissatisfied, choose a different political party. But you decide on what's best for you NOT what's forced on you without any of your input. Can you understand that STUPID?

There’s something to this idea. The West conducts political discourse by arguing from one side. Interest groups fight their corner. So solutions to problems are either surrender, compromise or gridlock.
Political discourse in China is the monopoly of the CCP and conducted through dialectical materialism, not through interest groups. Solutions can be holistic, addressing root causes.

You're exactly right. Mr Keith Richburg needs to empty his mind so that he can have any meaningful conversation about China and CPC with other experts. He already has all these ingrained western narratives about China, it's hard to watch. He asked why Pew Research shows low positive view on China among western countries, if he's smart enough, he should know the answer himself. The US just approved $300 mil. fund to solely focused on saying bad things about China, to drive a wedge between China and other countries, and sabotage the one belt one road initiative. Most of major western media such as BBC, CNN, NY Times, Washington Post, not only focused on only reporting negative news about China, they also exaggerate, and a lot of times, spread pure lies about China. It's all these propoganda against China that has caused China's image to plummet among western citizens. Majority of the western people who actually visited China all reported that China's nothing like what they've read, heard, watched about China in the west. If Pew research actually polled people in Asia and Africa, they will get a much better picture because they are slightly less influenced by the narratives from the western media. Western citizens think they have freedom of speech, free press, but they just don't know they're brainwashed by the narratives the MSM presented to them every single day, only the smart ones understand the real situation. People in China are well informed about the events happening in this world, 100-200 mil Chinese nationals travelled to other countries, and then returned home. If China's that bad, these folks won't return home. It's true Chinese media is censored, but they don't demonize US like the way US demonizes China every single day (with lies). China doesn't spend $300 mil. to focus on just badmouthing US (like US doing it to China), China doesn't go to other countries to force them not to do business with US (US is guilty of this), China doesn't force them to cancel an existing Contract with US, or face consequences (US is again guilty of this).

Dr. Li was an ophthalmologist, not a specialist in infectious disease, and he was not arrested, he was only warned by the police not to transfer messages that are not proved. At least 7 people were warned at that period according to Chinese law.
Actually, he only sent a message like "SARS is coming again, take care..." (we all know it's not SARS) to his doctor classmates, and one of his classmates took a snapshot of his message and sent it to her mother, and her mother sent this picture to many groups of old people and made a large number of people panic about it, many of them left Wuhan and transferred the Coronavirus to other cities.
And there was already a chief doctor from the Infectious disease department in one hospital in Wuhan, who submit the condition to CCD days ago, which follows the SOP built after SARS, much earlier than Dr. Li. A team of specialists was already built at that time, this team went to Wuhan to investigate the situation twice, and decided to lock down Wuhan at the second visit.

About the doctor being being not allowed to inform the west, I am of the opinion not many people really know what has transpired, including the interviewer. Regarding the Pew survey reporting a general anti China sentiment, there are some points not touched in the video. First, the survey is done mostly done in liberal democratic countries which represent a small portion of the world (in terms of population). Second, China's story is almost totally unheard in those liberal countries (China's GCTV being banned recently in several countries), while majority of the western MSM pumping out negative news of China almost on a daily basis. Third, since its founding, people in western liberal democracies have been raised and educated on the assumption that Socialism is bad and Communism is evil for at least a few dozens of decades. This is a default form of propagand (or brain washing) that does not show up as so.
Therefore, it is of no wonder, what the Pew survey would find. Personally, I could have pretty much predicted the outcome even before the survey was conducted. For a democracy to work well, people have to be exposed to both sides of the story and there must be rigorous criticisms and debates for and againt either side. But sadly there seems to be a total lack in the west especially in the US, leading to the fact that China is almost the only topic that gets the bipartisan support. It is of little wonder the survey result is heavily biased, not by Pew the survayor, but by the policitcal and media background in the west.
There is little argument that the US effectively controls global narratives and public opinions and people exposing to such narratives for decades are very hard to remain objective. They become a part of their decision, congnitive and belief system which is almost impossible to change. This lies at the foundation for the weakness of the political system built upon it.

Fostering understanding of each other (west and east, China and US) is vital to a future that should be characterized by peaceful coexistence and cooperation, not by ratcheting up of bellicose rhetoric and confrontation. These lively discussions, even the adversarial questions from the interviewer, are what can lead to more constructive exchanges of ideas that restore a more positive direction between great nations, going forward. Disengagement and decoupling is NOT the way to go. I hope Eric and similar brilliant thinkers from China will be heard more in the future.

They will lie, belittle, tell half-truths, just to provide the narrative that the west is better. A simple documentary of PBS regarding poverty alleviation got cancelled, just because they paint China in a too positive perspective compared to all the social problems in the US...

    • @KGold53
      @KGold53 Před 2 lety +21

@@fawaka6664 Agreed it’s a problem. What it will take is bold leadership. I am old enough to remember when Egypt and Israel were mortal enemies in the 1970’s, and then Egypt’s Anwar Sadat offered to come to Israel to thaw the ice and negotiate a peaceful coexistence. With Jimmy Carter’s help, it resulted in peace accords and Egypt recognizing Israel and its right to exist. Similar analogy would be Kissinger’s and Nixon’s trips to China in early 1970’s. I’m also old enough to remember that, and how America feared China, calling it “Red China” prior to Nixon’s visit and opening up. Now, it will take a summit between Biden and Xi, reaching agreement to take down the temperature between the countries and foster further dialogue. Maybe that will happen at the G20 this fall. Hope so. If it happens, then perhaps the media and other politicians will begin to take a less hostile, if not a friendlier tone, toward China. If it doesn’t happen, then the problems continue until there is a real crisis. Let’s hope it’s the former, which would be in the enlightened self-interest of both.

He already hase all these ingrained western narratives about China, it's hard to watch.

      5. Some lab workers get sick, but as we know, they don't get immediately sick right there in the lab. Some others elsewhere, near a market, get sick, just a few. It takes days. So: this is a strange pneumonia. Don't blame China. Lab leaks happen all the time, which is why Obama banned it GOF. But yes indeed, checking blood bank blood from way before Dec. 2019, there were covid ANTIBODIES in it. So whoever donated that blood had covid and got over it. Doctors in Lombardy recall some people with an odd pneumonia, but it was so few that they fluffed it off. How many others were asymptomatic? MOST people were asymptomatic!
      Back to China.
      6. A doctor or two speak out in a panic and get in trouble for making a panic.
      7. Now more have it, NOW it is known. China puts genome up for all to see, says it's epidemic and closes down Hubei province where Wuhan is a city.
      8. Too late. People from uninfected areas travel. Many had already traveled. Not all who traveled were Chinese. Consider how many people had it with no symptoms, which is THE problem here, and nobody knew about this part of it back then. You can have covid and not be sick at all. THAT is how it spreads so fast. People aren't sick at all, but they have covid, no symptoms - and it spreads. NOW this is known. Back then nobody knew anything.
