This is one of my favourite Rush songs! Bytor and the Snow Dog was inspired by two dogs one of their managers had. A little white dog and a dog who is a biter.
Great reaction. Their songs are like movies.
The Fountain of Lamneth is one for you to check out.
Cheers
By the way, Alex Lifeson entered the gear market a few years back. He's selling amps, guitars, and pedals. The pedal models are By-Tor and Snow Dog.
cool handle
You should see them do this live on stage! Amazing!
When Alex comes in @ 8.20 sheer genius
Re: storytelling, their very last studio album, Clockwork Angels, was a two-side concept album that was - indeed - followed by a trilogy of novels, the first two of which were co-written by Neil Peart and author Kevin J. Anderson. The final book in the series received input from Neil but was published two years after his death (he did receive co-author credit on it).
Haven’t heard about any Rush music being adapted for the screen though. On the other hand, I wouldn’t say never. After all, Geddy and Alex have been selling beer under the Rush name. It would probably just depend upon them and the Peart Estate trustee(s) to approve such a project.
This song is so good it hurts!!
This is one of my many favorites!! You should now check out the live version. It is part of a medley of songs from the Exit Stage Left tour 1981. They dont play the "whole song", but its worth watching them play it and you get 4 other songs (i think) to boot! Be well and God bless... from Texas!
I'm such a nerd, I love this song.
This was the first of Neil's longer proggier concept pieces and was the precursor to songs like The Necromancer, The Fountain Of Lamneth, 2112 and Cygnus Xl
I love how the song is so intense but also just a big inside joke... it seems like they take the Fantasy world so seriously but its all based on their manager's two dogs who were a disaster when it came to fighting and biting. Singing about myth and hades and bloody battles and heroes, yet I can imagine them cracking up constantly in between takes in the studio.
I first heard this song in 1981 when I was just about 16 years old. It blew my mind then and it blows my mind now. The necromancer is a follow up to this song.
Hey. This is Neil Peart's first album with Rush in 1975. He was dubbed The New Guy, as well as The Professor.
RUSH'S song Rivendell is based on the Lord of the Rings.
Love Alex's guitar work on that one.
Yes The Necromancer also, which is also a follow up to By Tor
The low growls were Geddy on the bass. He was completely overdriven and running through a volume pedal. He just rock it forward and back real quick while playing to get that sound.
By far, I feel that this song was Geddy and Alex saying to the world, "Hey guys! We got a new drummer. We think he may work out for us."
Definitely one of my favorites!!!
F'n'A ,Thanks, Dame...Awesome song,and an Awesome reaction...Todd from Ohio
🐶 #TeamByTor 🤗 Let's Battle! 😁 I know he's the "devils Prince" & all, 😚 but he's so cute! 🐕🥰🐰
Really love this one… Alex pitched his guitar in his solo to mimic the two dogs fighting. This one truly shows the genius of what was to come…
Love your reactions, and in the way of such things I suggest you try out Headlong Flight of their last album Clockwork Angels… it’s a banger and a half.
Thanks for getting to this classic.
for another epic try Fountain of Lamneth
I think I've heard this before, but it's not for me. No matter, they're an amazing band. Thanks for your reactions, DAME.
They were the masters of story telling through not just lyrics but with their instruments as well.
Many have said the same thing, they could have easily written music for movies
So well put Dame, awesome, Cheers.
They are starting the path to 2112 and Cygnus X-1
Great literature in general honestly. Neil was very much a bookworm and his lyrics reflect that. I think what you are realizing is the instrumental music adds depth to the story being painted. 😉
Yeah
3 Gods at their early peak. Several more peaks follow 😊
Sounds okay. Doesn't really grab me though...
😂😂😂
@SnowDogisVictorious Ya doesn't sound like something you'd be interested in. 🤣🤣
Maybe give it a couple more listens. I think you may eventually find it tolerable. 😉😁
DUDE…Thank you
Do the live version on All the Worlds a Stage
Every song on All The World's A Stage is a better and perfected version. Just the 3 of them. You gotta love the added snare parts in the slow part when Alex is using the volume pedal
You can hear some of Bytor's guitar solo's in Live Electric Ladyland 1974 Working Man guitar solo around 5-45 czcams.com/video/dDHgtTx2CRA/video.html
There is a song on this album called Rivendell which is rhe elven city from the Lord of the rings
🏆🏆🏆🏆
Great reaction to an epic song that gets little love from Rush Nation. Agree about the Lord of the Rings fantasy world they paint in the minds eye. You should look up how the song got its inspiration and characters from.
Go back and listen to the Necromancer again - By-Tor returns and redeems himself.
This was BAD back in the day. 'Trippy' we would call it!! I said, 'Hell with that Zeppelin crap!" haha
"By-Tor took an L" 😂
Live version 1981. Or RIO live is better. Alex wrecks it with all the dog guitar sound effects overshadowing Geddys masterful bass playing…
Which one is the best out of the two
