Table saw build series: • How to build a Table S...
Built a new vertical belt sander station with a tilting table. I've had one with a fixed table for a couple of years and it worked great. But now, for some reason, I wanted the tilting table and since I came up with a neat mechanism I built a new one. I built the new one out of scraps that I had floating around in the workshop. It uses a Makita Belt sander. The table can be tilted up and down using circular guide slots. This lets the table tilt around it's front edge which keeps it right at the sand paper when the tables' tilted.
Sander: Makita 9404 - Věda a technologie
best solution I've seen so far for a station that takes a portable belt sander and ends with a bench sander. Great idea.
Great problem solving, Cosmas. Changing belts easily is indeed a great advantage.
As far as i'm concerned, it's the breaking point point between a great sander and a bad one. Of course, that may be because i change belts more often, but even so, there are some convoluted and oblique designs out there that just make you scratch your head in wonder at what the design team was thinking.
A helpful solution also for a disc sander, when setting the table wider than the diameter of the disc.
The key to a good shop made machine is simplicity, and you nailed it on this one, great job.
Very nice build, simple too!
Thanks for sharing 😃
The last bit, the "made in..." is really a testimony for the German quality work. 🙃
This is very cool. I like your trunnion replacement with the bolts, simple and effective. I’ll have to try something similar.
As always, the best solution usually has the genius of the simple. Great job!!!
Excellent result, loved your horizontal sanding station
I have made this laying down (yours is more versatile) but I’m surely shopping for a second belt sander now! Great idea! Love it!
EXCELLENT video and process. You are my hero. Thanks for sharing. You gave me an idea on how to repair my belt sander with half the work. I also love your clean and organized shop. Keep up the great work.
Woho! I've got the same model of horizontal beltsander station.
I need this. Going on my to-do list. Thanks.
I am faster than you sorry 🤣😂
Awesome build! Thanks for sharing.
Brilliantly simple build. Thanks
Bravo mate, one of the best homemade belt sander stands I have seen!
Great design, well made!
It is amazing the quality of the wood you find in the wood pile. A bit of planing and sawing and you get very good 2X4 and 4X4 blocks!! For me it is mainly white and red oak.
It is a very clean and simple design. This is the smartest way to make this since you can remove the sander and use it separately. I still wanted to see your take on a standalone belt sander made from scratch.
Very nicely and neatly done. Your all jobs are of high quality!
Now that is a classy, practical build that looks and appears to work just fantastic, thank you for sharing this with us! I have subscribed!
Great little gig
Wow, super Idee und schnelle Ausführung !
As usual Cosmas, a great and clear video with a verry functional and well made end product. Thanks for sharing and wish you a nice long weekend. Rgds from Hessen.
very smart setup. seems not to expensive too. great work and very good video. I love the ending too... lolled for real :)
Your work is excellent!
Nice build and I enjoy your relaxed humour very much 🙂👍
I have to admit, I loved the concept! Particularly the false trunion :-)
nicely done, amazing and clever work.
Very nice solution!
Schönes Projekt, danke!
Nice idea, thanks for the video.
Excelente!, qué invento nueva herramienta casera. Gracias a tu video
Great thanks for your videos
A greeting from Spain
Very nicely done. Efficient, effective, and uncomplicated. German design and engineering in action!
Nice build and design...Thanks for sharing...;-)
nicely done
Einfach und effektiv. So lieb ich das 🤩🤩🤩
Smart man ! Great video
Made in wonderland, really like the glue + screw technique too. Just wonder if the threads will be strong enough to hold the complete sander.
Muito legal e criativo parabéns!! Im from brazil.
Great work designing this system - unique to that sander but ... And, those splits in the plywood from the screws could grow to be a problem but this is not made to be a forever tool. However, the design is amazingly effective.
"My horizontal sanding station...." AKA: belt sander clamped in vise!! Laughing out loud!!!! Too funny!!!
Well done engineered perfectly 🤠👍🔨
Hut ab ! Danke schön.
Fabulous. On my “Things I need to make for my shed” list 👍🏻
WOW good job bro
Coolest one
Good build Friend! Thanks for sharing it with us.👌👍😎JP
Nice. This video suggests an approach to building a chamfer sanding attachment for an old, 3rd rate palm sander.
Very good!
Good job!
Super travail et superbe idée !!! J adore !!
Genius...even I could do this..
also (and perhaps more importantly), the delightful dry delivery and even drier slowmo scribing at the end shows a super witty sense of humour...less is more. Germans ARE funny! 😉😍
Thanks for sharing that
Very cool!
it's a very good idea 😊👍🏾
I know you said a slot might be gimmicky, but i'd still add one. You can make a super cheap slot out of a picture frame (or ad frame in some places) by cutting the face off and leaving the slot channel for the angle connections they use a a slot. It's small, cheap to make and there's a large variety of T-nuts for various applications, as not all such frames are used for pictures, mine for example is a wall mounted formicarium and it came with these tiny T-nuts (ebay) that hold quite a lot of weight.
You can easily make an angle guide and sled from that.
Hi, it's a very good job and a good idee
Hi, very nice job 👍.
Haha, nice ending!
Big problem solving👏
Tnx for sharing
This looks great!!! Do you have plans for it?
Nice. Ich glaube sowas brauch ich auch 🤔
When I upgraded from my own "horizontal belt sanding station" I found out a couple of things. Holy cow, my portable bench sander was loud. The cast iron of a proper bench sander helps to dampen the sound, but I think it's a different type of motor, even.
And... disc sanders are incredibly cost efficient. A roll or box of 50x 6" stick on sanding discs takes up less storage space and costs the same as just a few sanding belts.
Edited: I just realized how negative that sounds. My portable sander was the cheapest one at the store. That Makita looks like a work of art, and the melamine covered birch plywood is SAF. And it's good to see a new video.
Very nice...
Do you have instruction/guide/templates for make the mechanism of the tilting table?
What an awesome build, I love the simplicity of it. By chance are there plans for this? I don't have a Makita, but I'm sure I can modify it for my Craftsman.
Very good Jigsaw skills :)
What kind of Blade do you use for the fine cutting?
Use a fine tooth steel blade
Looks great! Do you have plans to share / for sale?
Do you have plans with dimensions fir this? It’s the best one I’ve seen
Boa ideia . 👍🤗
have you got any planes for the vertigal belt sander i was having trouble with the trunions thank you
Ich mag es wirklich. Welches Spray sprühen Sie vor den Kleber? Danke.
Great build! Question, if i may, what blade are you using on your table saw? (for melamine at 0:20 ) Greetings from México! n__n
Perfekt
Wow like my friend
"Horizontal Belt Sanding Station"
Oops corrected... like "made in Germany" :) :) :)
It's a smoke 'em if you got 'em type deal
Why don't you have a miter sled ?
Smooooooooooth!
and it's no longer made in Austria hahaha! :D
Danke!
my belt sander does not have those two slots on the side of its body, which makes it more work to hold the machine.
Nice job👍.
what measurements do you make from 5:50 to 6:10 min? Could you explain for me please?
Excelente ¡¡
Very good.🇧🇷🌷👍
my cheap chinese one keeps breaking belts, so this is a great idea...
the miter slot might be good if you had a totally perfect filler strip for it with .00000001 clearance and internal screw for hold down when not in use, but another level of complexity, hassle, and possibly ruin perfect surface.

Plans available?
Does that Makita belt sander come with those mounting holes, or did you drill and tap them yourself? I have a Porter Cable belt sander that I'd like to use, and it doesn't have mounting holes (for accessories?) on the body of the tool.
Great build. However, I do not see a link (stated at 0:35 to 0:43 in the video ) for your Table Saw build video(s).
I forgot to add the link. Now it's there.
You really should think about putting a splitter or a riving knife on your table saw...kickback waiting to happen. Cool belt sander build though!
Phillip
Plans??
Wait I was under impression you're in Sweden or Norway...
Awesome! You really needed to made in Germany? Haha.
