I love the Arrow TV show. Its exactly like reading mediocre comic book runs - they stretch out their plot driven arcs as much as possible but you stick around for cool action scenes and a loveable protagonist
At least the show is finally ending this year. Half of a season 8, then Olly gets to die in the Crisis crossover. Hopefully Supergirl and Legends can continue to carry the load for the CW-verse.
But god damn it if the first two seasons weren’t amazing.
^ This might be the singular most accurate description of Arrow as a show that there has ever been.
I have to relate with your saltiness. As a comic book reader, it's pretty annoying to see so many people watching a superhero movie or show and saying "Ah, I don't need to read the comics now." Like, no you don't, but don't dismiss one medium for another so blatantly.
I've actually had reverse. I didn't watch Aquaman or Shazam because I had read the runs they were heavily based off of.
And they are just straight adabtations of those runs and thats fine. I just didn't care.
when Ethan said reality sucks I have never felt anything more in a long time
Ethan wouldn't buy Reality issue number 1. Lol Sal has to read all of the issues.
I started reading comics because of The Flash tv show.
Wow I’ve been watching comic pop for about 5 years and didn’t realize that much time passed because quiver feels like it wasn’t that long ago that’s when I started added this show to my weekly routine religiously after about a year which was when the quiver episode debuted. You guys do a great job and I love the work you do.
Quiver and Mad Love were the newest episodes in this series when I started watching, and I’ve never looked back!
You said that, I went back and realized yeah I've been here since the Spawn Episode it's been like 5 years... They were TV Little House... Where did the years go
1 minute in and I'm already dying at the saltiness!! Great episode!
19:09 strangely enough, Kevin Conroy actually did work at a soup kitchen once.
Twice if you count the Animated Series
I didn't take Onomatopoeia's repetition of sound as a power, but more as an OCD affectation to show how unhinged he is, that even as he's trying to murder seasoned superhero's he has this insane need to mimic sounds, mid fight. Liked his Widening Gyre appearance, as I hadn't read Cacophony, took me completely by surprise.
Sal, what you want out of Onomonopia is a character called Reverb Act I in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure! Because the manga and show both include the onomonopia as text on page/screen, Reverb’s ability is to slap those words onto people or things and they’ll happen.
One time someone’s gonna fall onto a pit of spikes, he slaps “Boing” on them and she bounces off safely, stuff like that. I totally thought that was the general idea of what Onomonopia was gonna be, so I’m bummed too
It's Echoes. Reverb is the copyright free name.
It’s echoes act 2 for the “Boing” effect to happen
Something that wasn't said here was can you imagine how strong Olly is being able to hold the draw string of that bow for so long?
I wish they would do Lemaire's run from the new 52 also. I loved Quiver, but I have never read this.
The Kevin Smith run of Green Arrow made me fall in love with the character.
The whole Hawk man outside the window monologue while they did the wings flapping motion made me laugh out loud. 🤣🤣🤣
Sal me an my aultisc oldest son Jake are Huge fans of the channel keep up with the work
That ending bit was basically something Kevin Smith would write.
Intentional? We may never know.
Chris Check I mean sal is a kid from New Jersey who got into the indie scene and is really into comics. Remind you of anyone? Lol
SNL Voice: Green Arrow and Black Canary went home with... a piece of toast.
Bought the whole Kevin Smith Green Arrow run because of this video and I just finished reading it
Those Robin Hood sex puns are fucking priceless! You gotta give it up for Oscar Wilde-like wordplay that good😂
I can’t believe it’s been so long since you guys did Quiver. It’s been amazing seeing this channel grow and continue to do amazing work. Here’s to another 4 years of greatness.
Nice timing guys. I just re-listened to your Longbow Hunters video on my drive from work today. Now I’m hungry for more Green Arrow.
STREET SMARTS WITH JJ... MIA BITTENBINDER
Hey perp, there ain’t no way you’re takin’ that lady to a *secondary location*
Almost four years since the last Kevin Smith Green Arrow book you covered ? That’s insane! Because that’s about when I started watching you guys.
😂 😂 omg, 10 mins. in got me dying! "I can do basic addition!"
It just hit me I’ve been watching comic pop since i was 16 and I’ve watched faithfully ever since sal responded to my comment on a live stream (made my day) i am now I’m 21 and i still love the content and personalities stay golden comic pop !
Love you guys. Loved the episode.
Side note - I'm watching the episode, with head phones on, and the end had me laughing so hard that my wife, who was busy grading papers, had stopped what she was doing and was looking at me like I'm a crazy person. I'll never forget "precockupied" for as long as I live. LMFAO
I’ve been watching for a few years and I’m not gonna lie, if you guys made merch that said “I can’t help with brain surgery, I don’t have an arrow for that” I’d buy it so fast. Charge $40, I don’t care. Just make that shirt
So Onomatopoeia is basically Michael Winslow from Police Academy? Now that's all I'm thinking of!! SOMEBODY MAKE THAT HAPPEN!!!
I was waiting for more Green arrow! Thanks guys!
25:07 That is my new favorite sound. LMFAO
So, Onomonopia is the Michael Winslow of supervillains? That’s it?
Clank! [hits nail on head]
This was the first Green Arrow comic book I ever read, I was 12.
So much went over my head, I definitely remember the harp being used as a bow and naked Black Canary.
2:26 "reality sucks" ethan, 2019
Great episode guys
Eggs McChilli sounds like a delicious, all-American breakfast to me. I guess Mia was more in the mood for a Portuguese Breakfast.
I had to look Portuguese Breakfast in Urban dictionary. Not disappointed
@@alexsilva28 I am so sorry.
You might joke about audiences from the CW shows not coming in swarms to watch back issues, but my first video from this channel was back issues on Invasion, which I found because of the show (also because you were in my recommended from comics explained vids)
During Mike Grell's run on Green Arrow, he started wearing the hood because of how much it rains in Seattle.
You can give GA a ton of different hats in Injustice 2 and one of them is the Robin Hood cap and it actually looks pretty good so I think it could work in live action since I2 is already so realistic looking.
Man I can't wait for the eventual Doomsday Clock Back Issue episode. I really hope its less about them covering the book and just a deep dive into everything it could have been and what went wrong.
He most assuredly said "precockupied". Freaking love this show, great stuff.
Love the channel, guys. When will we get more coverage of Saga?
So Green Arrow likes chili? Better call Sonic the Hedgehog to bring the hot dogs and have a party!
I feel like the chart keeping track of how Kevin Smith interacts with other studios/entertainment properties is just a big squiggly line.
Love the street smarts reference
Awesome!
Man I wish you could do back issues every day it would be like amazing hahahaha jk I know y'all need lives but I sometimes wish you didn't this shits so funny
Was "Street Smarts!!" a John Mulaney stand-up reference?
Also, please do top 10 DC lovers video!!
When a new back issues pops up in your notifications you bust into sals maniac ghost rider laugh. 💀❤️
Great episode
i want green lantern and green arrow
I think this is one of my new favorite episodes. :D
yay kevin smith green arrow
You guys should do Archer's Quest next!
Yoga hosers director and also tusk. Really pulling from the wealth Kevin Smith movies. Lol.
Honestly I kinda liked both of them.
And when Mia shows back up I'll buy a Green Arrow book. Same as when Jon shows back up I'll buy a Superman book.
Well I mean Jon's back. Just a lot older and ruined now cause Bendis
There actually are birds that have dominate sides, but it is with their left talons. And like people they have a 90/10 split with being left taloned is the majority.
Threw my phone across the room at the right wing bit 😂😂😂 bloody genius
Hawkman: Dont sleep with her!
GreennArrow: Sleep with her...
Hawkman: No! Dont sleep with Her!
GreenbArrow: Ok. Dont no sleep with her!!!
Hawkman: No dont sleep with...
*Green Arrow interrupts*
Green Arrow: Already did
Hawkman: No.. *face palm*
Last week was Flash this week is Green Arrow. Does that mean we're getting something Supergirl related next week?
I really hope you do the Batman run. I know it's not finished and ends on a cliffhanger, but I don't think we're getting that third act.
I asked him about it at a live Q&A less than a year ago, and he told me he does have it partially written, and has pages of it he brings with him in a briefcase while he's working on other projects. But then he went on to say, "but DC has changed so much since the second part with the new 52 and rebirth, and what I originally wrote doesn't even really fit in with what they are doing now," and talked about how he keeps working on it and re-tooling it, but it may not come out.
He also talked about it as one of his White Whale things that he is continually working on, that's a driving force for him to keep looking at as a future project to keep himself motivated.
So basically what I'm saying is you might as well do batman now, since it's probably always going to be a cliffhanger.
I wish you guys covered "the Archer's Quest".
I bought Kevin Smith Green Arrow #1 when it came out. Reread it recently and it had an oral scene in it and I was like oh geez 😬 Most definitely didn’t understand that scene as a kid 😆
Hey sal, what were your thoughts on fraction’s Hawkeye?
Dear God...Quiver was almost 4 years ago. Holycrap its been so long.
"Because its super hot, come on"
I love that first minute or so, because as true as it ts 16-year-old me did exactly that with Arrow. I finished binging the season and a half of Arrow that was there at the time I needed more Green Arrow, so I picked up my first ever comic book of Green Arrow, and he's still my favourite character... but the show sucks hard at times.
I loved the cooking show
Onomatopoeia's mask just reminds me of Sheldon's Doppler Effect costume....
I actually made your chilly and it was so gooooood
i remember reading these years ago when they came out. I enjoyed them then but when i tried re-reading them i was thought they were ok but I far preferred the CW TV show incarnation (and the JLU cartoon version). Man the CW show only ended a month ago and I still sad about it. I want more. Anyways yeah these comic was fine but I dunno. I found myself going back to the Mike Grell version of the late 80s/early 90s. Maybe I just don't like Kevin Smith stuff much these days. The Black Cat and the Batman stuff from him was... something...
Just for the record, my brother's favorite character Hawkeye. Suck it "Green Arrow"!
i heard of onomatopoeia in Batman the widening gyre and thought he was super cool but then after hearing you guys talk about him I realize how much cooler he could've been.
Would you ever do Batman the Widening Gyre.
I know this'll never happen, but what the heck: could you do Waid's Archie on Back Issues? #comicpop #backissues
BRING BACK THE COOKING SHOW!!!
Public school in Seattle is where I went. She’ll be fine hahahahah
Please we need ultimate spiderman again :)
Yes!
Could not agree more
I don't know much about green arrow, but what I do know is that I'd kill to be able to pull off a goatee like that
Please bring back the cooking show :(
Precockupation can lead to I.C.S. when you have to take constant #3’s. Onomatopoeia, “Boiiiing”
Watching you guys in 60 fps is cool but also kinda weird.
How has Kevin Smith never directed an episode of ARROW?
Could have sworn he did
"Right wing" oh my gosh 😄😄😄
52:42 Who is he? Who is the secret guy behind the camera? Who found it really funny? I must know!
Karsten Powers Kevin Smith
@44:00 The biting down on the arrow thing isn't even the stupid part, the fact that no one can hold a bow back for any significant length of time is the stupid part. Trying to hold that tension until the operation was complete would be impossible, much less smart for an archer to even consider.
Hey comic pop, I want to start reading Batman but I’m not sure where I should start. Detective comics or the current Batman run? Which one do you prefer?
You should start with Detective Comics #994!
ComicPOP thank you very much! Means a lot! Love your guys videos, keep up the great stuff!
I think that Ethan and Ben would really like Doomsday Clock. Because, with issue 10 especially, it explains the DC Universe and its constant changing through good old fashioned story. Plus, it is a great follow up to Watchmen that doesn't impede upon the original story.
Great follow up? Watchman was a deconstruction of superhero comics. Bring the characters back for yet another DC crossover event completely missed the point. It's a pretty cynical move by DC because they know many fans lover Watchman.
@@101Mant Is it corporate? Sure. Do I think that Watchmen should've stayed in its own little bubble? Absolutely. But, you've got to admit that the story is good. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are master storytellers who really understand the DC Comics Universe. If it took stepping on Alan Moore's toes a little bit to give us Rebirth, I'd pick that poison over New 52 DC any day. Watchmen is a book that saved my life, introduced to me by this very channel. I believe in its sanctity as much as anyone else. But, above even that, I believe in good stories. And, agree or not, I personally think that Doomsday Clock is a good story. It's no Watchmen. But it captures Watchmen's spirit in a way we haven't seen since 1986. And that means something.
Please do Green Arrow/Green Lantern by Denny O Neil and Neal Adams, or Green Arrow Archer's Quest by Brad Meltzer.
Yessss
So Onomatopoeia is basically Michael Winslow?
YAY
I'll always love Arrow 😁💚! Green Arrow has become one of my favorite heroes of the years bc of it! I'm never going to regret watching and loving it💚🔥🔥#Arrow #ArrowForever
Black Cannary, a sound based hero, should have had been the one to defeat Onomatopoeia, a sound based villain. Just saying.
Nice.
Hey now, Arrow had a few good seasons.
Onamatapoei wouldn't have gotten the drop on Batman like that
13:10 Ethan’s got a point but that’s usually what happens with nba players kids
that comment about top DC lovers. oddly when it comes Male lovers in The DC Universe. I think Nightwing might just be no 1 at this point lol.
I think I liked the first and second season of Arrow... I honestly cannot remember how much I watched and when I quit watching. In retrospect, I see that it definitely drags out stories and does not lean into the ridiculousness of comics. Say what you want, CW Flash can be fun and does not shy away from the fun stuff (i.e. Gorilla Grodd, King Shark, the Multiverse).
I did drop out of that shortly into season 5 of that show, however, it just got repetitive; which is sad. You’re adapting COMIC BOOKS, one of the most dynamic, insane, fast-paced mediums we have!!! I mean, COME ON!!! The story is already written, just adapt it for tv, slap on some silly yet cool costumes, STOP focusing on Iris, and give us a PROPER FLASHPOINT!!!
I need to see Thomas Wayne (Jeffrey Dean Morgan?) murder some fools in an awesome batsuit before I die people!!!
35:00 I wonder what is this a reference to.
I don't think Smith actually watched arrow because he started watching flash because of king shark being in an episode. And then he got mewes to fill in the missing details. At least that is what he said in a podcast back in the day. And Amell separately talked about wanting to use onometapia and have Smith come and direct. Liking the idea that they could use the character but to be able to adapt him. Have him be able to do any kind of sound effect and perfect imitation of other people's voices.
But it seemed like there was something going on between Smith and Marc guggenheim at the time that made it never to happen. Never said what it was beyond Guggenheim being asked in an interview once if Smith would get to come and direct an episode and Guggenheim just saying: No.
Seemed like they had buried whatever it was when it came time for Smith to host the crisis aftershow. Or at least be professional about it. But by then it was too late to have Smith come on board.
But on multiple occasions when asked what villan Amell wish that they would do onometapia was usually his answer.
It's a shame, especially given how they had a half season recurring role to a really bad character in season 7. Who turned out to be a pathetic napoleon complex type serial killer.
Would actually have been a perfect time for them to bring the character in. Since the show was no longer trying to be as grounded like it was like in season 1-2. So the he could easily have fit the tone and new status quoe of the show. Not having to be a big bad or just villan of the week. They could even have given him those mime like powers since metahumans were no longer exclusive to being on Flash after season 3.
top 10 marvel and dc lovers is not actually a bad idea lool
17:10 Let's be honest, we all know it's Dick Grayson
