If anyone doesnt like Alladins cuts, then they dont understand how absolutely funky they were for the time, in DMC. he is a Compton boy doin Philly style cuts, and if you listen to it without watching him, and dont automatically bop your head, I dont think you understand what funky cuts really are. They were never done like this before Alladin, and never done after. Qbert or Dstyles dont even have this level of funk. Skill yes, funk no. Its a philly thing. I almost wish I was from there.
I feel that. I tend to lose interest in what DJs are doing, when they aren't funky, regardless of how technically advanced they are. Not being funky, or at least musical, is a deal-breaker for me.
Can never get fed up with this set still blows me away 21 years latter. I have watched this hundreds of times and still think he was the best dj in the world back then. Cutmaster swift was a show to watch, This man was the real deal. Nobody alse had a sound anywhere near a funky.
What’s impressive about DJ Aladdin’s set is that the turntables are in the standard position and not the sideways position that everyone uses today, and he barely bumped his needles, gotta give him props
When he landed up in Chicago for the US final, it was February. Aladdin had never seen snow. I'll never forget him all wrapped up in a muffler kicking the snow along the ground, so excited.
I was there. I was the DMC Manager for the US at the time and brought Aladdin to UK after he won first LA round, then the national at Chicago. Such a good, but shy, quiet guy.
Take it from a 43 year old DJ....ALADDIN IS THE SHIT!!!! He does this stuff live for fun. No sweat on his brow. He turned out West Coast Compton parties and STILL DOES!!!
DJ Aladdin won even in defeat as time is the true test and Alladin's DJ set was 100 times doper than Cut Master Swift's watching this today. The test of time!!!
Agreed. Aladdin was 100% on !!! I have this on VHS..purchased on Melrose back in 1995 at "Street Sounds" Still pumps me up in 2016. Just the best !! So much energy and raw talent !!
Doing a live set with no stickers and rarely used the headphones. "Funky scratch HUH"! And he killed that shit! He is a legend. OG 1580 AM KDAY MixMaster DJ Aladdin
Cutmaster Swift won because he was from the UK, I can think of absolutely no other reason. Aladdin's set is another level of skill altogether. I like Cutmaster Swift btw and am from the UK, but DMC judging has always been dodgy as fuck in my opinion and it really annoys me.
this was a milestone in hiphop dj'ing. aladdin was the RULER!!! lmu02104 you are bang on point with that transform solo. 20 years old but still top shelf.
Really good feeling and sence for scratching.. I watched all the finalist here on CZcams and he seems to be the best by far.. at this time. Its not just the scratching ..I personally think its about picking out the right traxx.. and the right part of a certain track.. He did that perfect !
This is 1989 !! You were watching Family Ties or Saved by the Bell. (If you were even there) Today your DAW beat matches for you Plays in Scale for you Suggest Patterns for you Problem corrects for you NO CZcams or Internet forums Period. Just you in your Bedroom/Garage learning your shit (oh yeah D.I.T.C. was a craft ,No expansions or sample packs.) THIS SHIT IS LEGENDARY. Learn the History of the Hobby that YOU dabble in.
aladdin was no doubt one of the greatest d.j's of all time, you wouldn't want to go against him in a dj contest at tht time...i saw him live. His teacher was dj joe cooley no doubt.
Amazing. This performance is, to me, reminiscent of the very best of DJ Jazzy Jeff, which by my standards is the highest possible praise for a turntablist. Oh well, what am I babbling about anyway... neither one of them needs to be conmpared to the other. I'm using far too many words to express that this is awesome.
More like London England... that's why his routine started with the Public Enemy sample "Bass in ya face London, everybody in the house make some noise"
IMHO Dj Aladdin is the best perfomer in a DMC contest of ever. Please consider it performed in 1989 and style, techinques were different compared to more recent championships.
S K I L L Z ! .....such a damn shame he fked up and went to jail...his comeback was embarrasing..... but i still got nothin but love for him, this performance alone made him the best dj on the planet! how swift won is beyond me!
I was at this DMC event and loved every minute. Watching Big Daddy Kane take off his fat gold chain before performing was a legendary moment :) But Cutmaster killed it!
I need to try this routine today, with the turntables straight, big ass mixer, with Stanton 500 needles, just to see if I can be smooth. I had a hard time with stanton 500s back in the day.
Ya I miss the old mixers, the old Realisitic / Radio shack mixers that had nice phono/line switches to do the transformer scratches. I dont find the new mixers the same,...
..some masking-tape and a U.S. 10 cent on tha' headshell, adjust that weight(counter balance*) ..lmao, turn that needle to about 45 Degrees ..outwards/ROTF ..Lmao! "Those were the days!""
@defcreator Cash had some super fast and swing groove transforms, his scratching to the funk was incredible for 1985, the two of them had a completely different style which was great just like the uk style including dj mink (uk). I just think in terms of tighness, accuracy, speed and ability to entertain, jeff is my fav. His transfom on Magnificent and union square is so refined for the time that it sounds funny like a cartoon character would do it. Everything he does has humour.
@Lenarych Freedom "Get Up & Dance" classic sample used in BDPs remix to You Must Learn as well as positive K's I Gotta Man, grandmaster flash freedom and LL cools J's No Frontin Allowed... Classic shit.
i heard someone say somethin bout jeff, cash, mizz, or whomever in the late 80's...too bad cash and aladdin didn't get a chance to go at it. aladdin would of rocked his bells.
Even though I am from the UK, I must admit that this set should have won by a mile!
If anyone doesnt like Alladins cuts, then they dont understand how absolutely funky they were for the time, in DMC. he is a Compton boy doin Philly style cuts, and if you listen to it without watching him, and dont automatically bop your head, I dont think you understand what funky cuts really are. “Didn’t have an engineer if ya know what I mean did it all at the age of 15”.

I feel that. I tend to lose interest in what DJs are doing, when they aren't funky, regardless of how technically advanced they are. Not being funky, or at least musical, is a deal-breaker for me.
Threw up his set in the beginning..... times have surely changed!!!! I love this brings back tbe 80's in high fashion
I was there but what set is he claiming?
@@Youlovemanunited he from Corner Poccet or Front Hood I forget which one
The energy at the DMC was so different back then
This is better than what I see at the DMC now
Jay Werx
couldn't agree more Jay
definately...see how tech has seeped into this genre..I'm so disappointed
Hey, you had to hardcore back in the 80's, people throwing cans & bottles, not to mention the biased, or home crowd boos, & taunts etc. Serious.
Can never get fed up with this set still blows me away 21 years latter.
I have watched this hundreds of times and still think he was the best dj in the world back then.
Cutmaster swift was a show to watch, This man was the real deal.
Nobody alse had a sound anywhere near a funky.
33 years later and it’s still incredible.
the rock the bell routine just amazes me for years now, love it.
I was there in 1989,great time DMC.
And yes DJ Alladin was the Nö 1,Much better than Cutmaster Swift.. Great time with great music👌👍
What’s impressive about DJ Aladdin’s set is that the turntables are in the standard position and not the sideways position that everyone uses today, and he barely bumped his needles, gotta give him props

Always loved chewing his gum, best scratch DJ👏🏼
this is like 25 years old and that jit is still AMAZING his choice of samples are PERFECT and his work ethic and knowledge on the tables is CRAZY
Take it from a 43 year old DJ....ALADDIN IS THE SHIT!!!! He does this stuff live for fun. No sweat on his brow. He turned out West Coast Compton parties and STILL DOES!!!
Aladdin did his thing for the West Coast!! He should have put that Low Profile Pay Ya Dues in there off him and WC's Album.
Worst DMC robbery ever.
DJ Aladdin won even in defeat as time is the true test and Alladin's DJ set was 100 times doper than Cut Master Swift's watching this today. The test of time!!!
I was there that night - he got ripped off!!! he killed it that night!!!
NO LIE?
The transformer scratch at 5:13 HOT DAMN!!!!
Low Profile album- Amazing cutting
Cutting with the line in/out switch with way more soul than anyone could imagine. This was before curve/slope knobs. West Coast king on the decks!!!
Yeah that sound was so nice. Better than faders today.
Ye you knew he been from LA the curls and he threw up the set befo he did his thang homie a real g on that turntable 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
A real DJ, none of that fake shit going on today, this is hip hop!!!
Aladdin got Robbed, his skills, Charisma, and Technique on the turntables are pure gold and on point.....he should've won in my opinion.
Distinct signature transform styles...
wzrdryaudiovisual yep. Shits built like a tank. Still have my uncles tables from the 80’s
Vintage Dj Aladdin Aka Turntable Assassin !
one of my favorite djs
im sorry DJ Aladdin rocked the 89' DMC. Cutmaster Swift was nice but Aladdin took this shit. Legend performance
Agreed. Aladdin was 100% on !!! I have this on VHS..purchased on Melrose back in 1995 at "Street Sounds" Still pumps me up in 2016. Just the best !! So much energy and raw talent !!
I agree one hundred percent Alladdin was robbed!! I know i was on stage with him...great time
kevin maxwell 😂 yeah, I agree! To think that Swift won with that cringeworthy dancing to a blend of Street Talk and King Of The Beats 😂
Definitely. I'm from the UK and even I think he was better
he's mixing tracks flawlessly, doing a quick mix without headphones!!
Doing a live set with no stickers and rarely used the headphones. "Funky scratch HUH"! And he killed that shit! He is a legend. OG 1580 AM KDAY MixMaster DJ Aladdin
This is the guy everyone tried to copy after seeing the vhs tape.
Damn... if only he had rocked his USA-winning DMC routine! Cutmaster Swift was tough to beat though. Aladdin is legendary...
Cutmaster Swift won because he was from the UK, I can think of absolutely no other reason. Aladdin's set is another level of skill altogether. I like Cutmaster Swift btw and am from the UK, but DMC judging has always been dodgy as fuck in my opinion and it really annoys me.
A Master on the Wheels of Steel.
Бог вертушки на века 👍💯🗣🗣🗣🎼🎛🎹
Those are straight Los Angeles cuts!!
Faark he murdered those beats!
For a second there, I thought Aladdin was about to jump into that Low Profile "Funky Song" goodness, haha.
That would have been hella dope!
oh yeahhhhh! I was young and my mind is getting old! Thank uuuuuuuuu
this was a milestone in hiphop dj'ing. aladdin was the RULER!!! lmu02104 you are bang on point with that transform solo. 20 years old but still top shelf.
This man made the best west coast beats ever
Best DJ of 89 DMC
This is no only the set this is the sound
Alladin, Joe Cooley, Cash Money, and Mix Master Mike to me are the best turntabalists. Perfect balance of technique and funk. Love this set!
those technics probably still in use
Yeah and still probably never been serviced 😂
@@64bakes technics 1200's
😂😂 For real
Technics for ever👍🏼
I like how he throws his set before he begins.
Rockin the jheri curl juice
He threw up Compton
@@Diaz23 I always heard that he was a Crip.
Aladdin Killed That Shit
He was also a killer behind the mixing boards, producing, among others, the classic “New Jack Hustler.”
he crushed Cutmaster Swift.
Really good feeling and sence for scratching.. I watched all the finalist here on CZcams and he seems to be the best by far.. at this time. Its not just the scratching ..I personally think its about picking out the right traxx.. and the right part of a certain track.. He did that perfect !
Thanks so much utahsaint! Who'd have thought that a kazoo hook could intrigue me for that long! :)

Not sure about jazzy Jeff! For me cash money is better. Jeff only got the recognition due to a certain TV show.
More like London England... that's why his routine started with the Public Enemy sample "Bass in ya face London, everybody in the house make some noise"
23 years on and wow!!!!!
Rock the bells was made for DJ Aladdin.
Whoever went up against him knew they were fucked when he went up to the line switch to do the Aladdin thing.
..but hear him when touring with King Tee ..years later, doing his routine w/RUN DMC's "Peter-Piper?" ...Classic*
EXACTLY, THANK YOU.
IMHO Dj Aladdin is the best perfomer in a DMC contest of ever. Please consider it performed in 1989 and style, techinques were different compared to more recent championships.

Nice- wow. Didn’t know about this competition
He was far better than Cutmaster Swift....
Straight from South Central
This is incredible
Dope !
Aladdin was robbed ..he won this with pure style and funky cuts original back in 89
Agree completely. The Rock The Bells set alone won that year.
The #1 inspiration for me starting to DJ = DJ Aladdin. Dude is a fucking genius. The Low Profile album is so freaking ill.

17 years old! he's from the harshest gangsta hood but i bet he's never been as robbed as he was that night, swift owes this man a cheque!!
I was at this DMC event and loved every minute. Watching Big Daddy Kane take off his fat gold chain before performing was a legendary moment :) But Cutmaster killed it!
Thanks for uploading thuis I remember this like it was yesterday. If you have DJ miz that would be sick
@defcreator I can't lie-I slept on Hijack & DJ Supreme until a few years ago! I agree,DJ Supreme is a BEAST!!

5:00 did the dude holding the vinyls hit Dj Aladdin
Haptic feedback is completely missing from DVS and digital. This set was / is incredible because of the 'feels'.
Sweet!
this guy is hard.
He won that shit
Wow ✅
i like the top angles, they sud do it more on dmc videos
