Dr Dennis Gross is incredibly knowledgeable and understanding in the skincare/dermatology department across any age. I find this so insightful, thank you for sharing Sali.💛
I was on board with this up until he claimed that hair could come back coarser if you shave it off. Unless you are shaving down to the hair bulb, all you are doing is shaving off dead cells. There is no way saving can change the texture or density of your hair.
Such a treat!! What a knowledgeable person to interview and how wonderful that both of you took the time for each question. I loved how you asked him to expand on certain issues, such as neck cream! It's great to have new information on things you might have discarded. I could honestly listen to you two for hours. My only suggestion for improvement would be to put the camera on a high tripod so we see less knees and ankles (specially in part 1). And I did get the feeling he's a tall man who was fighting the sofa and trying not to slouch, so maybe a different seating arrangement? But that's just anecdotal, the content was 100% awesome!
This has been so great! I did not submit any questions but I feel like I have absorbed information that is relevant now and for the years to come. Thank-you!
Loved your interview. I will not comment on the questions per se as they were not exactly yours, however you did a great job with them. Very respectfully, you did not interrupt him unless absolutely necessary, to organise his answer or to recap. You did not all the time say “uh-huh” or “yes” or “right” that can be very annoying. Bravo.
Definitely one of the best and most informative beauty videos in a very long time. For me personally the under eye advice was a revelation. A nurse once said to me that my dark under eyes could be an allergy and to hear Dr Gross say it too is vey interesting. Off to bulk buy anti-histamine. So refreshing that he did not constantly try to plug his own products.
You're so good at your job Sali, we all know this already of course but seeing it very clearly in action in this interview as you interpret and summarise for us, this is Ace. He comes across as very genuine and trustworthy. Love his peels pads. I never seem to be able to have all these products at the same time - vit c, retinol, peels, hydrolonic (no, it's definitely not hydrochloric, whatever it's called) I imagine I'm far from alone in splashing out on one thing and then having to wait a while for another and very lucky to be able to splash out at all. Do they have a collective effect or does it make much difference that one or more elements are missing on rotation all the time? Which bits go best together?
This is so damn helpful! What he said about using Peel’s and retinoids all month for spot prevention was mind blowing, I always target my skin during breakouts but certainly going to keep up with this all month!
Thank you so much, Sali! I am 51 and just realized how very little care I have given my skin. Now that my age is starting to show I will definitely take some measures to help it, I have taken notes throughout both parts of your interview and know what exactly I need to do!
Nice to see he mentioned Kojic Acid. I use a soap with this ingredient in it along with salicylic and glycolic acid from the Asian market, and it really helps lighten freckles or any dark spots!
Some great advice here. For example, I'm all about quitting camphor and essential oils in your lip balms! It makes such a difference. Use your face moisturizer on your lips then cover in an occlusive like Vaseline. Works great for me. Don't forget an SPF on your lips during the day.
form your first part I've started an experiment - I'm washing my face with bottled water and already see some good results - less dryness (I have a normal to dry skin) and tightness, I need fewer skincare products even though it's winter! Thank you!
MrsSelenaPast Hi I have been using spring water only on my face for 3 years now I even have a video about it up on my channel. I discovered about the benefit randomly on my first trip to my home country Congo where the water coming to the kitchen bathroom etc is actually spring water as we have a wheel in the garden. This country is full of water(rivers lakes etc...)... I was 32 and in 3 days my adult acne disappeared for my entire stay there. I have had acne since I was 12!!!!! So back to France I decided to give it a try. I bought spring bottles of water to wash my face and since then no more acne more even skin less dry skin. Crazyyyy after 20 years of trying everything and seeing every Dr. I tell my story to everyone now and people who don't know me especially Dr Dermatologists think I am crazy but people who have known me saw the difference.... I am happy an actual Dr talked about it because nobody does... Of course I also use good skincare and pay attention to all ingredients as my skin reacts badly to more than tap water...
Sorry if that's a silly question, but what is your technique here? Do you use a face cloth and soak it with the spring water? My skin got worse with adult acne since moving from a medium water zone to London, a place with incredibly hard water. I'd like to try using spring water, but also really love to splash my face with water from the tab after taking cleanser off with a flannel, to make sure every last little bit has come off. I feel like I would go through a bottle of spring water every day!
I know - at first it might seem like you are going to use the whole bottle but in fact, it takes very little - around 250-300 ml for a wash. I tried different "techniques" but I Do love to splash water onto my face, for this purpose, there are two suitable ways. First - hold the bottle in your left hand and pour water in your right. Get some splashes and then change your hands. The second way is more satisfying since you can use both hands)) Take a bowl filled with water put it on the top of your sink (so that used water won't mix with the clean), grab water and use it as usual! I found some instructions where you can put your face into the bowl filled with sparkling water - it suppose to clear up your skin and something more. But I haven't tried it
Elisabeth Neumeier That's not silly as I had to wonder the same things myself before starting this routine... I have a channel and my video #54 is called " my skincare routine with spring water". You can see all the steps. I filmed it almost 2 years ago already...
'I don't need to shave' THANK YOU Sali!!!! This is one of the most ridiculous trends around at the moment. Thank you for clearing up this misconception. I could hug you!!
This is excellent information and thank you for bringing such expert advice to the everyday woman! The only thing I would like to suggest is getting a camera person with a better skill level or at least advising them to use a tripod and panning.
Ah, someone else with EDS! I've the delicate stretchy skin and dehydration is a big issue. My skin doesn't care a whit about retinol and never reacts poorly to it, but vitamin C, any higher concentrations than ~5% and it freaks out.
Sali I absolutely love your videos 👍 but where in the UK would we get these sorts of peels. It seems like it’s easy to get them in the US but wasn’t sure if you knew peels we could get in the UK that are good as Dennis gross alpha beta peels xx
Did anyone else gasp at the part were he stated you should be using surfactants on the skin? I am somebody who for years used a lot of different foaming type cleansers and have therefore gained a multitude of skin problems because of them, now I use cleansing oils and balms and my skin is so much better. Also what about these surfactants effecting the skins PH and throwing your skin barrier all over the place? I know across the pond they are obsessed with anything that foams but does anyone share my concern with this notion?
I don't think he meant foaming cleansers. Just an ingredient that will actually cleanse the skin. Even your balms would have gentle surfactants in them.
scarletshay Exactly - cleansing balms/oils usually have ingredients to emulsify the product with water (ie surfactants) whereas coconut oil (and other ‘natural’ oils) don’t, so would be more difficult to remove
Great session and useful answers to good questions. But pls use a tripod for your camera! I got dizzy watching as the 30min clip neared the end and your cameraman's arm got tired :(
I really do like this interview and the doctor approach. I may disagree with him in few cases, also sometimes I was bothered that Sally had suggested him an answer (like with dermaplaning, even I am personally against this one too) But all in all it was very informative and trustoworthy, thank you Sally! And yes - like many people already have pointed out - please work a bit with a camera shaking
Face hair does not grow thicker or bigger, hair follicle is not damaged or touched during derma planning, shaving does not impact follicle, how this makes sense? I've been shaving face for 5 years I should have had beard by now :D I like him but some information is misleading.
I think this is so lovely but you missed the fact that I have really fussy face and no foundation in the world will ever look good without me removing that. And I'm so gentle, one time a month and almost not touching my skin. Am I really doing any harm?... I mean, the doctor himself shaved the morning of this intervju..but I'm just being a bit picky and lashing out because of my peach fuss problem😣 Thank you so much both of you for doing these videos ❤
I have quite a lot of peach fuss, too, and I do what you do - remove it once in a while, and I have not had any problems with it - so I'll keep doing it :-) A peach fuss moustache and foundation is not a great combination. And with menopause I have ridiculous amounts of peach fuss on my forehead - of all places! :-D
Marie-in-DK thank you! I got a bit concerned for hearing such a well respected derm. say that I was doing something so wrong that I could get a true beard. I'm wondering if he really understood the question on that one because I've tried to look it up and it seems to be untrue that shaving could make the hairs coarser, maybe just feel a bit prickly from being cut.. I'm going to put my trust in your experience Marie and keep on doing what I have to🌹
I don't think he understood the question. And either way, if peach fuss needs to go, it needs to go :-) Personally, I don't see why hair growth should increase by shaving. It's obvious that the individual hair that grows back is blunt from having been shaved and the hair hasn't yet been subjected to all the things that change a hair's appearance. But that has nothing to do with hair growth in terms of numbers. Men who try to grow a beard but fail to do so because of sparse hair growth don't experience any "magic" from shaving - why should we?
Thank you Sali for this! Other topics: Retinol and facial hair bleach Retinol and hair removal (epilators, threading...etc) Retinol and SKII treatment essence Will facial epilators make hair grow coarser?
IMJ sharing from my personal experience: retinol and sk II: totally fine. Retinol and epilator: wait three days to start applying the retinol again, and no it hasn’t grown coarser. ( I have thick and dark hair for reference)
You don't have an obstetrician when you're pregnant in Britain?? I don't understand; you learn something new every day. Also, my understanding is NO retin-A, retinol, adapalene whilst prengant. Ever. 6:20 this is my exact concern. I like my Retin A (or other actives) right on my skin, I don't want them occluded from reaching the skin and thus canceling their wonderful effects. I am glad you asked him again but I'm still not sure he really addressed that concern?? Completely disagree about shaving--I dermaplane, it is the BEST & it doesn't come back thicker.
Is it just me or the constant movement of camera turns other ppl‘s stomach? I stopped watching the video after like 10 minutes and just listened to it as audio
I don't agree with facial hair coming back in stronger and much more course. Dermaplanning has been around for years and almost all derm offices offer this here in the states. I have been doing it for years and hair always grows in the same.
She puts the answer she wants to hear from him in the way she asks the question.... very confusing to me. Wish he could be more unbiased in his responses. Thanks for bringing us the interview
Dr Gross is fantastic, so skilled at his area of expertise and comes across like a lovely guy. So informative.
This two-part Q&A was exceptional. I feel like so many interviews on skincare are built on rapid fire, soundbite responses, but this interview was well-paced, in-depth, and incredibly informative. He is so well spoken and explains very well. Thank you to both. Xx

exactly, been doing this for years :)
Probably one of my favorite interviews you’ve done Sali!!! And everything he shared was so valuable 🙏
These two videos have been absolutely superb-thank you both .

Loved every minute of these videos. He was very generous with his time and his knowledge. Thank you so much, Sali!
Thank you so much Dr Gross for taking the time! So so informative!
This has been so great! I did not submit any questions but I feel like I have absorbed information that is relevant now and for the years to come. Thank-you!
Bravo!! A standing ovation for you both!! Please do visit Dr. Gross again for more wonderful insights!! Thank you.
What a very generous dermatologist to give his time to answer all these questions. Very helpful I am sure to everyone. Thanks Sali.
Brilliant videos from two well-spoken, intelligent, knowledgeable individuals. Thank you.
Wonderful!! I'm so grateful for advice from a true specialist!! Thank you!! 🙏🏻
His voice is so smoothing that I had to watch the video twice just to make sure I heard everything... :-)
Stavros K, she's a professional journalist. She's had a lot of practice.
Nubianette it shows! Because nowadays interviews are done by blogger who are so bad at that.

adored this, adore him, adore you! thanks so much for doing this Sali - seriously helpful advice and information, we've been spoilt xx
Thank you so much Sali! Dr Gross is fascinating!!! So much knowledge Love it
Dr Dennis Gross is a very impressive dermatologist. He understand skin anxiety. Thank you Sali. Amazing.
I really like the comment about the chronic lip dry/breakout. Thank you!
This is so damn helpful! What he said about using Peel’s and retinoids all month for spot prevention was mind blowing, I always target my skin during breakouts but certainly going to keep up with this all month!
Brilliant-learnt so much!

Thank you so much for this interview
Hi Sali, What a helpfull video. Thank you so much.
I definitely will check his product line now.
Have a great weekend.
Wonderful interview! Thank you Sali!
Thank you for this video!!
AMAZING VIDEO!!! Thank you Sali!!!!
What a terrific interview, thank you so very much!!!
Please advise which products stimulate collagen - thank you Sali, blinkin brilliant interview x
Love this.
Nice to see he mentioned Kojic Acid. I use a soap with this ingredient in it along with salicylic and glycolic acid from the Asian market, and it really helps lighten freckles or any dark spots!
Would you mund sharing which ine? Thanks!
Loved it Sali, well done x

sally can you use retinol products if you have sensitive skin that is prone to excema if so what would you reccommend ?
Ah, someone else with EDS! I've the delicate stretchy skin and dehydration is a big issue. My skin doesn't care a whit about retinol and never reacts poorly to it, but vitamin C, any higher concentrations than ~5% and it freaks out.
Such a great video Sali! Thank you so much. xoPatti
Best video on this channel -excellent advice
This is one of your best videos! But the camera work is not tolerable!
Brilliant!! Learned so much.

Vitamin c is such a must ! And sunscreen of course lol
I love the Dr. Gross peels, but have been using Differin nightly - Is it safe to use both products? (Obviously not at the same time)
never mind you just answered this in the video

Testify re the chin hair comment xx
I wonder if Sali ended this at 33 minutes and 33 seconds on purpose? Angel numbers are always such a wonderful sign. 💖👼💕
Love the content; horrible filming technique. May be feel a little motion sick, like I was on a boat.
Are you wearing glasses to look smarter? Hahaha
oh christ so contrived
I would NEVER shave my face wtfff
okay, that's nice for you.
I would never NOT shave mine. It's the BEST.
