I build an authentic Japanese military spider fox hole with just a few basic tools including a small army shovel, some metal buckets, and some rough saw timbers to help create a safe place to sleep overnight in case of impending war.
A spider hole is mirrors the hole created by a trapdoor spider who will tunnel and then cover the top of the door to conceal itself.
A spider hole is usually shoulder-deep, and round, protective enough to camouflaged lid a solder from attack. A soldier will be able to stand upright and then fire a weapon without being overly exposed. A spider hole is different than a foxhole in that a foxhole is usually deeper and designed to hide or conceal a fighter.
A spider hole is usually hastily dug, whereas a foxhole is done with more care.
Spider holes were used during World War II by Japanese. Saddam Hussein during the Iraq war was captured hiding in a spider hole.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.
Many people ask me where I am from and where I film my projects. I am from Northern Ontario, Canada, and live in an area where off-grinding is easy because I have lots of land to build on and experiment with different buildings and materials. Everything I do is to try to be more self reliant, and to depend less on others. But that doesn't mean I don't like working together with other people on projects. Knowing people who have skills is part of being self reliant, and trading skills is a great way to get more things done!

Sponsors equals money. Money equals his ability to eat, have a roof over his head, and keep producing videos for his Subscribers.
No one is actually telling you that you MUST buy from a company you do not like or agree with.
There are a number of companies with products I have no interest in, or agree, with sponsoring channels I love to watch.
You know what I do when those ads and Sponsors show up?
Do I write an angry post to the content creator and tell them they are a shill and I'm unsubscribing?
      No.
I just enjoy the content, the creator, and the channel. And I do not click on the sponsor's ad.
      Simple as that.
You don't like a sponsor or product? Ignore the sponsor and don't buy the product.
But leave the content creator alone. They have bills to pay. They have a life to live outside of YT.
Complaining that someone has accepted money from someone you don't like is the same as being "offended". Being offended does not mean you are right.
You are offended that someone is eating a cookie around you when you can't eat cookies. Well, that sucks. But they don't need to stop what they are doing because you don't like it.
      They are not harming anyone.
      Offended by Sponsorships?
      Grow up.
Being a Content Creator is long and hard work that, fortunately, Kevin enjoys doing.
He deserves to get paid, or receive compensation for his time with money or items.
Patreon is not an automatic success.
The anti-temu comments are just unnecessary.
Don't like something? Change the channel. Don't support a sponsor.
But don't whine to the content creator/network/radio station/grocery store for sharing/selling something *you* don't like. Others might.
And Kevin himself, and his brother, and Don is doing a fantastic job on this channel.

  • @crxchuck
    @crxchuck Před 9 měsíci +3

When we dig foundations, we always recommend backfilling with stone to the top, with drains in the bottom, because dirt against the block will exactly swell with moisture and that’s how basements collapse. Idk if you can use that information on an underground hideout made of wood. It would need to be perfectly sealed around the walls

I agree that the original builds purpose has been satisfied. I say use the portions of the underground that are in good shape and expand from there. Making a very cool underground bunker. Do a much bigger opening that doesn’t have to be secret. It should have 2 or 3 rooms to it and something that your wife would want to spend time in there with you. No need to use just hand tools. You can use backhoes, etc… to do what you need to do. I would think it would be cool to see the progression of that kind of build. Parts I liked from your original build were …your unique lightening fixture on the ceiling, your escape and the overall rustic look of the wood build in the interior. I’d like to see other accessories that you can build for it when it’s done. A cool bed, shelving units, an enclosed with door bathroom, a pantry for all your emergency supplies to be stored.

Yeah, seemed to me even before you had flooding that the walls were not strong enough when main supports just sit on the dirt. They need to be either concreted in or even better just build a proper wooden floor and have that all connected up to all the supports. You might like to dig some deep holes before you add the floor in so any water can run down in there instead. This could also function as a backup water supply - just filter it and maybe boil it also. You make small covers over each sink hole you make to access it when you need it...

You can use a shovel truck to dig to the deepest depth, and then you can arrange the entrance and exit design and use concrete steel bars on the four sides. Then the mud floor is sealed and the concrete steel bars flow out to a height of 10 stories. Finally, the position of the concrete steel bars is covered with a cover to enhance the concealment. sex

Shaft should be shaped , wider at the bottom 3 to 4 ft going up at a angle toward the top almost tonal triangle, Vietnamese did there's that way the sides harden. They have monsoon real bad alot more water than you recieved and they hold up. Study more about their tunnels, Japanese built their tunnels in a similar way. I have a great deal of ideas for you to use in building of underground safe areas.

As far as the excess mud....
Strap 2x4's to the walls @ established floor height.....then run a 2x4 on top of those like you see guys doing with concrete.
Wet mud as it dries will establish an approximate "proctor" of how hard the ground should be.
And remember....backfill be hind all walls...or Nature will do it for you and you won't like it!

I have a really big version of the spiral log splitter and it's attached to a straight 6 ford engine and a standard transmission, on a modified old boat trailer so we can hook up and take it anywhere and it splits wood so fast it's ridiculous.. I cant remember the name of it but they used to sell them a long time ago but I haven't seen them around these days but maybe they still are but if you ever see one I'd snag it up because you will never split wood any other way ever again haha

IMHO the only viable way is to build above ground with proper slope, aggregate underlayment, french drains, made of concrete, coated in tar, then covered with soil. Even then, humidity and condensation is a problem. Some of the aboandoned nuclear misssle silos purchased by individuals, required pumping thousands or millions of gallons of water out of them. Above ground is the only workable solution.

temu is trying to become the next amazon. Its just another try by china like wish was/is. They can keep throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, but they miss the point. We don't want cheaper and worse, we want better and maybe a little more expensive. We will all probably be sticking with amazon.

yep... the french drain is definitely a good idea... also needs some gravel under the floor and then all of it connected to a drain down slope and away from the box... the water will always travel to the least pressure even if that direction is up... the project is just like any other basement ...
