I appreciate this! Concise and easy to watch. We blew a good deal of money on a loft bed frame in the mail. I wanted one with no extreme "chemical" sealants etc (I used hemp oil). But it's SO unsturdy. I didn't want to keep adding wood without knowing if it would help. Our frame is structured a little differently but this gets me started in the right direction!
Great. Good luck on yours. If you add the corner braces like I did, you'll be amazed at how much sturdier it'll be. You may not have to strengthen the join between top and bottom bunk. Just depends on how well it's built already. But if it's easy to do, you might as well.
Ya have a loft I just bought for my son and I don't like how much movement there is at all. This gives me lots of ideas. I was going to use brackets to attach to the wall but this would be better
🤣 was thinking the same! Just kids stuff and wow it's constant . But I never make it a battle there are enough of those in life. Although I have to say I don't battle with my kids ever we all work together. REAL LIFE!
Yes, kind of. The principles are the same regarding how to stiffen metal bunk beds. The difficulty will be drilling through the metal frame. Not impossible at all, just need to use titanium bits and use an occasional drop of oil during the drilling process. You could even use wood on your metal bed as the diagonal pieces at each corner. To do that, use screws with nuts. Don't over-tighten the nuts. I suggest using locknuts to ensure they don't loosen over time.
One other thought... you can also go to a place like Lowes and get some metal pieces to stiffen the corners of the loft bed. You could take a photo of your bed and take it with you to show one of the workers what you're trying to do. They'll show you what they have that would work. Good luck!
Not sure I understand what you want to do. If you're asking about how to attach a loft bed to the wall, you'll want to use metal bracket angles that are an L-shape (when viewed from the side), and you'll need to make sure the screws you attach them with go will into the studs in the wall.
Not sure I understand what you're thinking of doing with brackets? The key thing, if you can do it, is connecting the horizontal parts of the bed to the vertical posts like I did (diagonally) with the wood. Do you have metal brackets or something that you'd use in place of those pieces of wood?
Yes, as long as you can attach them between the horizontal and vertical parts of the bed, that'll make a big difference. Ideally, you'll use at least 2 screws at each end of those pieces. The longer those metal parts are (within reason), the sturdier it'll be. Good luck!
Da, I think I just realized what you were referring to. Do you have brackets that you're going to install in the "elbow" between the horizontal and vertical pieces? If so, that'll help some but not nearly as much as the wood pieces I installed at a 45-degree angle. But if brackets are all you have, yes, that will help reinforce it some.
Hi, a few days ago, one of my friends gave me an Ikea bunk bed which she does not need anymore, the problem is that I cannot assemble it together, I watch your video and found it looks pretty same as yours, so could you please tell which model the bed is? looking forward to hearing from you.
It'll be the same principle but you'd have to drill through metal, which is a hassle. You can find various metal brackets at Lowe's or HD which would help but those are made to be nailed into wood, so you'd still need to drill holes. I think I'd go to Lowe's, get some of the corner brackets, drill holes in your metal frames (use titanium bits and use oil when drilling), then attach the brackets with screws. You could take photos of your bunks and show a worker at the store what you're trying to do and they'll show you brackets that would work. Good luck!
Nothing is worse than 'Better Home and Garden' bs from walmart. Its so bad. The wood is very soft. They paint over blemishes that affect structural integrity. Such garbage. I have a bed I got in 1989 that is still aa solid as it was from day 1. It was was made with 2x8" wood and nuts and bolts and screws. The damn thing just wouldnt wobble. Some of these new products are crap. It looks like this bed in the video can be saved.
Wow, I'm glad you commented. Just watched the video and realized the sound and video got out of sync when I used the built-in CZcams editor. I undid the edits and should be good now. Thanks!
I don't understand why bunk beds don't already come with things like this!! They know that ish is wobbly when they sell it!!
You're 100% correct!!!

Do you have anytips on a metal loft bed?

I have a metal loft bed and I thought about flushing it to the wall and using those metal strap things. What are your thoughts on that?
Not sure I understand what you want to do. If you're asking about how to attach a loft bed to the wall, you'll want to use metal bracket angles that are an L-shape (when viewed from the side), and you'll need to make sure the screws you attach them with go will into the studs in the wall.
I don't buy disjointed bed again unless the one ready made.
Thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
I have a similar bed but if I use metal type brackets close to the same size of wood do you think that would work? I don’t have a saw.
Not sure I understand what you're thinking of doing with brackets? The key thing, if you can do it, is connecting the horizontal parts of the bed to the vertical posts like I did (diagonally) with the wood. Do you have metal brackets or something that you'd use in place of those pieces of wood?
Isotopes well not brackets I meant horizontal type metals parts.

Sorry, I don't know what brand/model it is. We bought it used from someone and I don't see any markings on it.
@@FixEverythingYourself Thank you for your reply anyway
Do you know how you would do a metal one I have a double top and bottom 🤷🏼♀️
