- I was the Australian Representative in the 2024 Cosplay Central Crown Championship. I was feeling good. I was feeling pumped. And then... things don't ever really go to plan, right?
Now real talk, I had a wonderful time and as exhausting as it was, I got so much more out of this than I can ever begin to explain. And the people I met were AMAZING and INSPIRING and FABULOUS. And the fact that I got to hang out with Sunset Dragon amongst all people, the designer of my Toph Beifong outfit as she herself wore an Aang outfit, it was better than any trophy. Not to mention her praise and having done justice to her art. That... that is the highest compliment.
Congratulations to everyone who was part of this competition, especially the winner, Matthew Barry.
I hope that you enjoy the vlog - it is an emotional roller coaster because honestly, that was the entire time for me.

Honestly the way you pivoted to holding it out to the side like a cape was so flawless it looked amazing anyway! I'm so glad you had an awesome time and that everyone got to see your Toph in person! Huge congrats for representing Aus (and Western Australia!)

I am so proud of you! Your cosplay is spectacular and you delivered! (Remind me to tell you sometime of the day my skirt fell off in the city's downtown as I was going into a job interview. Not a patch on your experience, but girl I will never forget it. That was 43 years ago. I no longer had to worry about whether or not I could die of mortification. I can't! :) )

i completely feel for you! my star guardian jinx cosplay, the prop launched into the crowd and my wig fell off... i had so many people come up to afterwards telling me how good I was at carrying on and being up there. so I'm sure many people were inspired by you just carrying on!

You handled it so well. It looked like it didn't throw you at all even though inside it probably did. I've been in countless audiences where cosplays have gone wrong and the crowd is always super supportive. It's never as embarassing as it feels.

I was watching the livestream with some other cosplayers and we thought that you recovered really well when the prop malfunctioned! All of us were familiar with the build so we knew it wasn't intentional but still thought that you handled it fabulously in the heat of the moment.

Thank you honestly for all your hard work behind the sewing machine, camera, and computer! You're a huge inspo to me and many others. I know the gut wrenching feeling of something happening on stage that wasn't planned, but you carried yourself so elegantly and strongly! JUST LIKE TOPH !!! I'm one the first to comment here and I want to say , in any case you did an amazing job and you has probably the best reaction possible (according to me)
My first ever cosplay contest was a few months ago and it went absolutely horribly (it was a 50/50 craftsmanship and performance and I lost my wig at the beginning of the performance, I still did my thing as is nothing happened)
In the end of course I didn't place but the few people who knew that character caught me after the competition and we spend the next hours and a half talking and waking around the con , those were stranger I had never met before but they were super and kind and we all had a good time talking about one of our favorite show/books
And in the end even if the competition didn't go well it was one of my best experience ever ! And I'm planning to compete again (with the same cosplay with some part remade including a new wig and other cosplay too)
You are a huge inspiration, your crafting video encouraged me to do things I thought myself incapable of , hell I'm gathering the last layer of my first ever petticoat as I'm writing this ! (Your tutorial from a few years ago was very helpful to make it btw)

hi, gorgeous kirilee! great job powering through a broken rock prop in front of a live audience. as an engineer, i learned long ago that demos that work 100% of the time before you show them to the customer love to fail only when you show them to the customer--so we always record our demos working in case something fails in the customer meeting. so i know what it is to have to "think fast, rabbit!" as bugs bunny would say! much love to you--and your toph is incredible!!
