How come your HAP isn't shown in your rise/run calculation? usually I calculate rafters by doing a rise/run calc, then add my hap to my calculated ridge height. the diag is the same, but the height changes.
All of the actual cutting I have seen in the videos is done with a handheld circular saw. Does anybody use a miter saw or a radial arm saw to cut the wood?
nice job Glen..very well explained but I have a question..actually 2..when you calculated the cut at the ridge why did you use the pitch in the calculation for the setback? Should it not have been 1-1/8"? (3/4" run & 3/4"rise for a diag. run of 1-1/8") I know 1/16" isn't a big deal, but could that formula come back to bite you in the ass at some point? Also,,once all the cuts are made, what order are the rafters are cut, what order should they be assembled in, and how are they all fastened? seems to me there would be an awful lot of nails in a small area which might weaken the wood/joints.
Thanks Glen, very powerful information. I appreciate your help my man, God Bless you
Excellent explanation, very informative.
Thx u
critical information that is commonly overlooked. brilliant video!
nice job young man.
The exact side cut angles are stamped on your framing square, for every pitch of roof.
Thanks.

does anything change when you have a double hip?
I have problems to calculate irregular pitch hip/valley.
We are using 2" × 6" rafters and 2" × 8" ridge and hips. Will top of hip birds mouth remain same as rafters?

Hellojust a question are the 3 king common rafters are of equal lengths
If you are using a roofing square could you just deduct the 3/4 inch instead of doing the calculation ?
How did you figure 2”1/2” for your HAP .???

Why didn't you subtract for your ridge on your common rarter?
