I have had the pleasure of watching Ms. Baird perform many times and she is a true genius. Being a such a small woman with a huge voice which is capable of singing Elektra and BRÜNNHILDE is a great feat. Her father was an incredible vocal instructor and the results are staggering in Janice.
I wonder if she sounds this squally and wobbly in life. I have heard singers who sound wobbly in recordings, but when you hear them in a big hall, they sound great. I am wondering if that is the case with Baird.
Why do people cough so much at performances? there are like 5 coughs from the audience per beat. They sound faked too, the sort not caused by a genuine tickle in the throat, but simulated ones.
Janice is very good on the high c and among the rest of the song, but sometimes her voice just disappear in the orchestra. I´ve heard her Brynnhilde live twice and it was just the same. The tenor´s high notes are some kind of practical jokes...
If there's a cell-phone that can film that good in a huge Roman Odeon, I will buy it. This has been filmed high a digital video camera and official dvd is also available. The interpretation is exactly the same: mediocre.
She has this bad habit of many anglo singers to distorts vowels. I usually try not to be hard cause everybody tries to do their best... but she´s too wobbly. actually the best is her high notes. And the tenor´s wobble is worse than hers.
Another generic voice! I'm glad I "grew up" with Nilsson, Price, Moffo, Tebaldi, Sutherland, Crespin, G. Jones, Fassbaender, Schwarzkopf, et al. Today one cannot distinguish one voice from another. In the so-called "good ol' days," one knew, without looking, who was singing.

Yes, of course I was wandering, Dymension. ANd thank you for tis piece of information.
What a wonderful Turandot! Fabulous.
Thanks for sharing this!
Amen! The above singers were not perfect either, but they each had their own timbre and unique style. I miss that in most of today's singers.
Yes, where could I purchase such a DVD. I'm sure Janice would love to know.
Nilsson is a different category and hard to beat, you can't compare her with what is presented here, but call it ugly is very hard to accept
i wish some off you could try singing this in the costume, not to mention the head piece, then think about producing the sound....well done janice
Honestly though.
Worked with her quite a few years ago on Stage. She did Abigaille ( Nabucco) her Voice hasn't gotten any better!

No, but she is in her 50’s in this recording.
@parsifalito - DUH! No such thinng.

@mspence002
Available from the Archives of the theatre, duh!
She’s better elsewhere.
Check her ”Färberin”.

This recording is definitely NOT official. Totally Bootleg. High quality, really! Very bad quality.
@parsifalito - Man there is no such thing
She is not old, and still there is to much wobbling. She is even under the pitch... Hope she was just tired this evening.
Franco Farina....
Faux et branlant.
Too young to have such a wobble. But of course, every dramatic soprano today has a vibrato that is too wide and too slow.
@mspence002
get a life, caro.

Do not forget Olivero, Gencer, Deutekom, Gruberova!
Her voice is amazing and she studied this role with Nilsson.
Price, Sutherland & Schwartzkopf are prime example of faulty singing and distorted sound.
Just saying.
Be happy if you don’t hear it.
