Modify your boat at your own risk. - Jak na to + styl
Cutting a minn kota voids your warranty unless done by a authorized repair shop..Trust me been through that mess..
Slide a 1/2” copper pipe or galvanized pipe over your wires and slide it down into the shaft to protect wires as you cut it and drill your holes. Other CZcams channels show how to shorten your shaft on trolling motor and this is how they do it.
Rotating pipe cutter is the best way 😀
Pipe cutter would work well without cutting the wires too.
This video should have started at 5:30 . It should have been a 3 minute video.
Thank you so much I can shortn mine to. What a trix bro. Awsome job bud and thanks for your service never forgotten
Wrapping the shaft with masking tape for a guide is ideal it's a composite shaft a tubing cutter would probably do the trick but also a hacksaw would do it for the average person without access power tools.
I would recommend shooting some silicone around the wires going down into the shaft I had water fill the motor on my minn kota 55 max a couple months after I bought it found out the hard way after it quit on the water with me I used to store it on the boat at a 45° angle and rainwater had somehow found its way in. I had to take the motor apart and clean it up I sealed the shaft and keep it fully tilted 90° when stowed away now and not had any issues since.
pupe cutting will most definitely cut through no problem
This is good to know when you find a good deal on Facebook!
Nice job. Bet that boat is gonna fly!!
Big pop cickle sticks work great for protecting wires in that type of situation
I think I have to adjust the length of mine. Except I need to make mine longer. Hopefully mine be just as easy. The shaft on yours, is it carbon fiber? I’m going from a v-hull to a pontoon boat. So, I’m not sure of the lengths yet. Your channel is very informative! Nice job!
Use the depth stop collar as a guide to make the cut clean. No need to clean it up afterwards this way.
I need to reduce the length on my 68Ib Bison too because the tillier handle is to high for me to steer and control the boat on my Intex Excursion 5 with comfort. I have to reach up really high which isn't good for my circulation and carpal tunnel syndrome. And if I position the motor mount to low then then the motor pulls under the boat therefore the only solution for me is to shorten the shaft.
Hey great video, what length did you end up with. I ask because I am thinking of getting the 36 inch kayak Xi3 and wanted to know if it would be long enough for a 12 foot tracker.
40”
Ok thanks, do you think 36 inches would still be ok?
Rotating pipe cutter is the best way if you have one laying around that fits 😎👍
Was thinking to do the same thing on my 18' tin boat. Terrova 112, 36volt. Shortest length is 60" May have to knock 8"'s or more off. Overkill? yup, who cares. Hardest part will be trying to get one. Sucks that it voids the warranty and you to pay even more money for the dealership to do it.
U Da Man!!!
Bud that thumbnail makes you look like the singer from Alien Ant Farm!
That picture is the best clickbait ever 😂
a tubing cutter may be a safer way to cut that shaft. the control board is in the bottom. is that an i-pilot unit?
NO, but we're gonna make it one.
Great video ....please someone else do the SOUND effects as you blew out my speakers!
Not sure why the Minnkota head is so big with nothing in there. I’d be happy with just a small round ball to enclose the wires.
Can the shaft be shortened on a cable driven trolling motor?
Yes, but I’m not sure how
@@TinyBoatNation Got it done. Took the top off took the gear rack off, cut the wires. Removed the motor with a couple of pipe wrenches and pulled the wires out leaving only the aluminum shaft. Cut out the amount needed ,cleaned and beveled with an aluminum cutting die and welded back together. Reassembled and everything is good.
I didn't see the motors tiller handle
You’re putting a 70 pound thrust on that little boat?? Dude, you are gonna fly!! Lol my 45 on my first build threw us around lol
I have a 55 lb thrust on my Ascend 128x kayak and on my 14/36 Lowe JonBoat
@@BrokeBackBob4559 any videos of the kayak?
@@AdamRyanA sorry brother. I just purchased the kayak a month ago and started to build it. Almost have it completed and I got hurt at work. Broke my back and 3 ribs. So my kayak and JonBoat are both on hold until I’m able to get around again. I have photos of what I have done but no videos. You should look into PWM for your trolling motor also. Helps to save the life of your battery and trolling motor. And it’s not expensive at all to do.
If you wrap masking tape around the cut area it won’t splinter
Thanks
Why didn't you just cut the excess wire??
Call me superstitious
Putting a trolling motor on a Tritons’ boat
I don’t buy it , too easy to nick the wires and you clearly hit the negative wire with the drill bit!
Stick a copper pipe in there next time
He doing a video and doesn't unpack 1st .WTF .then the bodgy way he cut it 9 out of 10 dudes would fuck the wires doing his way . Use a copper pipe, Roller pipe cutter . .Good Luck .
The copper pipe is a better way for sure
