Extra cruelty on Belos' part not trying to lie about the other guards. As soon as Hunter questions anything about what he's been told Belos just throws him away. It's a new low on a personal level.

That could be possible. And we know Raine's reason for turning. But that still leaves Everwolf's (forgive my spelling) reason.
My guess is that the original golden gaurd was Philip’s (belos) brother and for some reason belos had to kill him so then belos tried to recreate his as a grim Walker but to varied success, that’s why there is so many Brocken masks.

@@criptide6696 I found an even crazier theory. Philip and his brother was led to the boiling isles by this mysterious witch. His brother fell in love with that witch. Since Philip lived in the 1600 when witch hunting was common, he felt betrayed and angry so he killed his brother. The mysterious witch ran away bearing some offspring. Philip then started finding ingredients to create clones of his brother in hopes of them being loyal to him.
If you look at Dell Clawthorne, he has a striking resemblance to Philip. Philip's brother has a bird that seems to be Flapjack, Hunter's palisman. And Dana said that "birds are a Clawthorne thing" which means... Philip's brother married a CLAWTHORNE!!
Eda and Hunter are descendants of Philip's brother.

So this is why Darius is against Belos: because he murdered his mentor and friend. And now that he knows Hunter isn’t like Belos, he wants to save him! Hopefully Darius will comfort him in the next episode, seeing as Hunter ran into the woods where they were hiding when he had his breakdown.

Seeing Darius’ reaction to the old sigil, my mind went straight to the logo before Belos became emperor. Now, I’m convinced it’s from Hunter’s predecessor, definitely has to be very close to Darius and most likely one of main reasons he’s rebelling against Belos.

In Them's the Breaks Kid, the abomination giving Raine the letter and a counter idea, the abomination had a resemblance to Darius due to the bun and the green eyes. Darius also has been actively going against Belos if we agree on the fact that the cloaked figure using abomination magic and trying to stop Raine from jeopardizing themself by talking to Eda is also Darius. He has to know if both of those instances it was Darius.

Luz probably hasn't fully figured out the extent of Belos' plans while Darius hasn't figured out Belos' *true motives* (they could see the Draining Spell as just some sick sacrifice when in reality there is no sacrifice, only genocide.) Sine Belos is a witch hunter wouldn't it be on the nose to name every grimwalker Hunter.
I wonder if they had different names? Or if the previous ones had variation in what they were allowing to do, say, the previous could have gone to school, or may have been home schooled, or maybe was allowed out more and made connections. What would happen if one started dating, or got married, or wanted to pursue a divergent career path? Is hunter an uncle? Are there any decendents of his fallen kind?
Belos says "Out of all the Grimwalkers, you looked the most like him", implying that there may have been significant variation among them. That each wore a mask however also implies that their similarities were notable enough, and that Belos tried to hide that they were all attempted copies of what I assume is his brother.
God that must be awful, having an exact copy of your dead friend around you and they don't remember you.

Darius definetly knows what happened to the previous Golden guard, him saying "I think you'll make your predecessors proud" hits way different now that we know that Hunters predecessors tried to rebel against Belos, it makes me think Darius believes Hunter will succeed in escaping / fightinh against Belos where the past grimwalkers unfortunately fell

I was always curious about predecessorS plural. Belos's has been emperor for like fifty years or so and it always sounded off how there seemed to have been more than one GG prior to Hunter when that position is the emperor's right hand man. I was definitely theorizing the previous GGs all eventually rebelled against Belos and well...basically confirmed.

it makes me sad when hunter mentions his family, because technically he doesnt even have family in the first place right ? belos might count but i doubt he actually sees hunter as a nephew (judging by how he treated him and spoke about him in this episode) ;__; i hope darius or the owl house take him in eventually, he deserves to be with people that actually care about him

Though he seems to still hold some resentment for what happened since he keeps making clones of him. A version of "Caleb" that won't fall off the path, a better verion.

@@miamaru414 One, I don't think Darius knows why the previous Golden Guard died. I'd be willing to bet he has no idea about the grimwalker stuff at all.
Two, isn't it better to have lived and died instead of never having lived at all? Not exactly what Darius was implying, but my point still stands. I think Darius was encouraging him to have a life more than 'rebel' so to speak.
Adults in the demon realm, except for Phillip and Amity's parents, seem to have a level head on their shoulders. I wouldn't be surprised if Darius had a similar attitude to Eda, as in, they're children and shouldn't have to deal with this kind of stuff, unknowing how deeply involved these kids are to these events at all.
The second part is just a headcanon of mine, because if we take his comment about the previous golden guard being his mentor, current Hunter being 16, and count how many golden guards we saw in Belos's head, then we can safely say most golden guards died in their early 20's or before, and that Darius is probably 40 something.
Which would mean when the previous Golden guard lived they were either close in age or GG was younger than him, and he still thought of them as his mentor. These are my theories but I think even then he was like "We're too young for this shit". I mean, you have to see someone go through some pretty horrific shit and survive to call them not just your mentor but the strongest witch you know, and considering they died young I don't think it's unlikely Darius might've developed a soft spot for young people going through shit.
Darius previously thought Hunter was being coddled by Belos and being given all this respect he doesn't deserve for no effort. After seeing his true character, and what I'm sure will be revealed to him in future episodes, I bet his respect for hunter [and his predecessor] will increase ten fold.
I can't wait to see it happen.

He totally did. Look at the way he just slapped hunter's little hair thing away from his face.
He had suffered so much abuse from Hunter that he probably thought it was normal to be severely punished when you fail. Just like how he thought friends treat each other just like the covens. Hunter seems to have scars everywhere which probably is not even from missions but Belos. Poor baby boi has been hurt mentally and physically by Belos. When he saw Darius hand raised in a weapon he saw the parallels between him and Belos monster form attacking him. He braced himself because maybe he knew that if he moved or made a struggle it would be much worse. Lucky for bad but sad boi Darius is not like Belos. He genuinely treats Hunter with the respect that he earns in Darius eyes. He seems to be a bit playful and is worried about Hunter.

So everything has been connected this whole entire time. No wonder Darius was sad about Hunter being the golden guard. He just wanted to make sure that he does not end up like the others that Belos 'replaced'. In my opinion, I think Darius will be a great person to help out Hunter with his problems. So I just thought of a theory about flapjack.
Does anyone else think that at least some, if no all of the previous golden guards might have had flapjack as their palisman maybe even dating back to belos' brother? It could explain why flapjack immediately goes for hunter as well as why they have their scar, maybe belos tried to take flapjack at some point and after the first crack formed on the eye he got stopped.
People say that flapjack probabaly belonged to belos brother because in one of the episode we saw a picture of them and a bird was there as well

A theory that I fully believe is that belos's brother fell in love with a witch and had kids, who became the clawthrone family, but he was killed by Belos with a knife due to that.

I believe Darius knows about the other hunter clones especially hearing how he said the word nephew and the shock on his face when he saw the old design on hunter’s cape. I think Darius knows a little more then he lets on. Also if Darius by any chance knows that hunter is a clone then he was probably trying to protect him from that information.

I think Raine, Eberwolf, and Darius are plotting AGAINST Bellos. And the reason Darius looked so sad that day when Hunter got his staff is because he knew what Bellos TRUE self was like. And he knew Hunter would be so stubborn and never believe him.

(Minor spoilers) I feel so terrible for hunter, he was so proud to wear the cloak with the golden guard’s sigil, only to throw it away in fear in the newest episode
I feel really bad for Hunter, I mean he deserves better and better treatment. It is clear that Belos has physically and psychologically abused him, in addition to the fact that he recently realized that He was living for a lie :(. I really hope Darius supports him and treats him as he deserves.
Belos naturally would try to improve on his Grimwalkers right?? So maybe when the previous one, Darius’ friend, died, Darius beloved that this Hunter was just going to be a pawn. The prefect henchman to Belos, which was why he pushed him away. When Hunter proved to make his own choices and disobey Belos by having a palisman and saving his friends, Darius saw that there was “still hope” for him. Which was literally what he said in episode 13… he didn’t “deserve” to wear that sigil because he didn’t think he was worthy to live up to Darius’ mentor which he later proved him wrong…damn what good writing

I never would've made this connection myself, but this hits hard. Despite what I initially thought, Darius isn't sad for our Hunter because he will inevitably share the same fate. Because why would he be genuinely happy to see Hunter become his own person? No, Darius resents Hunter, not for his lack of talent or devotion, but for being Belos's perfect replacement for someone Darius cared for. He didn't see Hunter as anything more than a soulless replacement of his friend.

I think he was resenting Hunter because he was the picture perfect exemple of obedience. He did everything without questioning it first. It was a sign that Belos finally got what he wanted, a Golden Guard that is not going to betray him. So, when he realised Hunter disobeyed orders and had a secret palisman(which goes directly against Belos), he had hope that Hunter might still have some rebellion in him. Remember Hunter never told anybody about what really happened with the Palisman, so Darius didn't know Hunter let Luz escape.
@@elenafriese891 He knows..it's kinda obvious and it'd be hard to miss that hunter looks almost exactly like his mentor. The leaders of the covens know a lot more than everyone else, they're just powerless to stop it all (or are enjoying it/don't realize it'll end in their demise).

Every golden guard has looked different, so it wouldn't be strange to think Hunter was the son of the previous GG, especially since Belos says Hunter is his nephew and he kept mentioning his family was killed by wild magic. In Hollow Mind we finally found out that by family Belos meant the previous golden guards this whole time, because Hunter calls them his family when talking about how they died.
It has been foreshadowed that Belos referred to the previous Golden guard as his brother this whole time, we just never picked up on it because we didn't know what Hunter meant by "my family was killed because of wild magic" before.
Darius has no idea what Hunter is, he thought he was just a spoiled kid taking the place of his father just because he got born into it and for no effort.
I would be very surprised if it was revealed he knew this whole time, cause then his actions make no sense at all.
There’s a lot of comparisons between amphibia and Owl House in the “which is better” argument but ngl after this episode I think Belos is a better villain than the Core/Darcy. While Darcy is goofy and creepily inhuman like a person possessed by Bill Cipher and their ultimate goal is the complete enslavement of the multiverse. Belos is like an American Orochimaru from Naruto. He’s so slimy and malicious but it’s accompanied by this false warmth he resonates as he feels like everything he’s doing is 100% justified and doesn’t care if others don’t see eye to eye with his goals and it doesn’t matter who or what gets in his way to achieve the unity aka the magic worlds equivalent to Armageddon/extinction.
Also, he is the villain who affected people most personally either directly or indirectly: Luz, Hunter, Darius for losing his mentor, Eda for thinking Raine was brainwashed, the bat-queen and the extinction of Palismen.
ToH is definitely better, since I more like serious and dark plot. Amphibia is good, but it still more childish show compared to this.
Gravity Falls still the best tho, if Gravity Falls released now day, pretty sure it gonna be twice darker than ToH

Darius loved his mentor and he doesn’t want what happened to him to happen to hunter. I am betting that it is Darius who will comfort the poor broken Hunter.
Ngl I am slightly hoping Willow will also play a part in helping Hunter recover. While thematically Darius comforting Hunter makes more sense, Willow is technically his first friend, or atleast someone who did impact Hunters perception in a big way.

Hunter’s panic attack at the end of the episode makes sense.
After all Hunter just learned that his whole life was a lie.
He learned his uncle has been lying to everyone.
He learned about what happened to the other Golden Guards.
He learned his uncle, his only family is actually evil.
He learned Belos, his fellow uncle actually doesn’t care for him and tried to kill him.
He learned about the collector.
And who knows what he saw when he fell out of the mind.

So, from what we've seen. Philip has lived very long right? But i think, he not actually "lived" that long or mutated his body, but rather stole other witches's body(maye from time to time) so that his mind(or soul) can live on. And his last bodies were Belos-es. And Hunter(and all the previous Golden Guard) was those real Belos-es, well clones of the real Belos - aka Philip's walking quirking Body stocks.
No… I don’t think Belos is a body snatcher.🤔 Look at the marks on his face. When he was still Philipp Wittebane and got a scar from Lilith, that scar stayed on his nose and continued to grow as a side-effect of using Palisman to heal himself. If it were a different body, the scars wouldn’t match. The change in ear-shape could’ve been done by surgically altering his own ears.

So I counted how many masks are in that hall,,, and there’s like 15!? Belos became emperor 50 years ago,,,which technically means a golden guard was killed every 3 YEARS . AND THAT DOESNT EVEN AMOUNT TO THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE GOLDEN GUARDS DYING BEFORE HE BECAME EMPEROR AS WE SAW HE HAD THEM THEN TOO.

Heck they already had a murderer in the form of the first evil queen EVER (grimhilde is her name btw) who pretended to be an old lady to kill a wait for it 14 year old girl who was acclaimed the prettiest girl in the land according to freaking mirror! Yeah, they already have a whole patch of murderers (or attempted murderers) like Hans from frozen, the first queen Disney ever made in Snow White, Cruela devil, Scar, and many others! Yikes! When Darius said he didn't deserve to wear that patch, I'm sure he was really trying to say that hunter didn't deserve the fate of the Golden guard.
Darius was a better father to Hunter in like 5 episodes than Belos in his whole fucking life
Belos said the Golden Guards had turned against him in the past, maybe the last Golden Guard had recruited Darius into a rebellion and when he was destroyed Darius remained hidden.
Imagine if Darius and the previous Guard were lovers, since 'mentor' doesn't mean there's a huge age gap, if any
And it's disillusioned him as he realizes his mentor and now hunter are a line of people Belos has wear his brothers face, and then murders when they behave in a way he doesn't like
That'd be REALLY awkward and weird having a teenager who technically was a grown adult's lover in the past-

Darius just revealed that his mentor/Hunter incarnation was the most powerful witch he's ever seen and that he wielded natural magic unlike Hunter. Anybody else think the last golden guard tried to usurp Belos and that's why Hunter was made powerless on his own and why he assumes the most of "him's" likeness. I think he's the most humanized grimwalker.

So when Darius said he didn’t deserve to wear that crest, it was because the golden guards were all traitors who betrayed Belos in favor of the greater good, but Hunter was still a loyal dog to Belos. It was when Hunter freed his friends and acted against his orders that he earned the crest, finally following in the steps of the predecessors. That’s neat, it made sense to me before but the latest episode added a bit of depth to what we saw before.

Maybe The pervious golden guard warned Darius, that Belos isn’t what he seems and the next golden guard is in danger. That’s why his been apart of the resistance a lot longer then imagined. Maybe he and the previous golden guard started it.
We know why Darius didn't like when Hunter was doing what he was told, but really started to get a soft spot when he began to rebel: his mentor was killed because he rebeled
It hurts that the reason why Darius was trying to tell Hunter he wasn't as good as the last Golden Guard and that he should try to have connections outside of the castle, was all in hopes of getting him away from Belos and making sure he wouldn't end up like the others...
Hunter's voice actor really busted their chops for 'Hollow Mind'. That little "what?" aaaaaahhhhhh it broke me!

Darius obviously had a strong connection with the previous golden guard, who we now know was a Grimwalker of Phillip's Brother, so that means he already has a strong connection with Hunter in a way. I have a feeling that Darius' motive behind why he's betraying Belos is to protect Hunter and avenge the past Golden Guard...

From last saturdays episode, I'm a little exited to know that Darius and Eberwolf are working with Raine given their brief cloaked figures being disrupted by Hunter, then later trying to deal with Hooty.
Also, Darius good with sewing AND some nice "kinda a parent but not really " vibes all around. Def some more positive energy Hunter needs

I just understood what Darius meant by "And I say you don't deserve to wear that patch." He's not saying Hunter is unworthy or useless, he's saying that he's better than what he's being treated like as the Golden Guard. He doesn't deserve to be the Golden Guard. He doesn't deserve to be Belos' lackey and victim. Darius is saying that Hunter deserves better.
off topic about hunter, lets talk about darius and eberwolf. at first I thought they were both antagonists but they actually helped raine.
My guess is that Grimwalkers are another type of Abomination and Darius/previous Heads of the Abomination Coven might help create them. This is why Darius was so distant to Hunter, he believed he was just going to follow what Belos said, but when he shows he could make choices for himself, he saw some of his former mentor in him.

Hunter's situation really reminded me of Connor and That Wounded Officer from DBH. Everytime a Connor dies, he will get replaced by an exact copy with memories of the previous but only those that are important to his investigation. So if you were close with Connor but you aren't vital to his mission. He will forget everything about you. If Connor dies in any point in the story after saving The Cop in a Hostage Act. Connor will not remember him even though The Officer shows how grateful he is that Connor saved him. It's really sad. Darius probably feels the same thing The Officer felt. The worse part is, He can't even express it unlike The Cop.
My heart, soul, and body hurt every time I think of Hunter now. Tears well up in my eyes as I frantically try to gasp for air. My heart cracks. After a while the pain subsides but then I see him again in my CZcams recommendations, click on that video and cry.
So grimwalkers seem to me similar to like the clones in clone wars. Hunter is essentially like a clone version of someone from Belos’s past (probably his brother). Anyways like the clones Hunter doesn’t have the memories of the original he is his own person. His body is almost an exact copy of the original but his sole and personality is exclusive to him. That’s my way of seeing it at least, or until we get an in show explanation.
So does Darius know Hunter and the previous golden guard are genetically the same ish person? Because even though their soles and mannerisms aren’t the same perhaps their voices or appearance could be the same or at least similar. And also their body build or something like that. Maybe that’s also why the golden guard has to wear a mask it’s Belos’s way to make sure no body knew how suspiciously similar all of them looked.
Im now realising that darius says he doesn’t think he deserves to wear the sigil, hunter interprets that as being about his lack of magic and equating that magic to strength when really Darius probably means that the former golden guard deserved to wear the sigil because he was kind hearted and open

I just realized... It sounds so implied Darius was disappointed in Hunter when he said "And I say you don't deserve to wear that patch" after Hunter told Darius "Belos said I don't need magic to serve the Coven." THIS PROBABLY ISN'T WHAT DARIUS MEANT. Darius, in the picture of Hunter becoming an official Golden Guard, looked sad. Hunter is even puzzled by this. Hunter doesn't deserve the patch BECAUSE HE IS A CHILD. He DOESN'T deserve this amount of TRAUMA. Especially at this age! He doesn't deserve to put through this MADNESS.
Also, does Darius know Hunter is a GrimWalker, or any of the resistance?

I think Darius had suspicious about Belos this whole time, and the reason he was sad about the seeing the new golden guard was because he lost not only a mentor but also probably the inspiration for him to go against the Emperor because Belos would have kill him only after he would have betray him and the evidence for this is how Darius is impressed that Hunter had the courage to against orders just like how the previous Golder Guard did before his demise
I think Belos made Hunter with no magic so that he would not be powerfull enough to be a threat to him, like his predecessor; and to be dependent to Belos's staff magic.
Darius has become one of the greatest twists of the show. I mean when we first met him I figured he was either going to become a major antagonist, at best he would switch sides when he saw what Belos was really up to and at worst he would turn out to be a die hard loyalist to the end. No, turns out he's been leading the resistance all along.
He became Hunter's father figure in zero time and i love it.
