This song IS STILL relevant, popular , cool. It will bever age.
Its timeless: True genius.
Sparks are Kings of modern music. Up there with Kraftwerk!
Hahaha...all this sound is part of the EDM matrix of Giorgio Moroder and the 2 main and primary electronic genres of this electronic scene, HI-NRG and Synthpop that Moroder himself forged since 1977.
This album is another production by the genius Moroder, the German Progressive Rock & Krautrock Düsseldorf of the Conny Plank boys (Kraftwerk) does not sound here 😄.
My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everyone calls me...the father, founder and pioneer of EDM and Modern Electronics / The Sound of the Future 😎
Kraftwerkboy cries...
Sparks was the 80s before the 80s. Way ahead of time.
wow.... you are spot on!
And what a real pity the UK seemed utterly unable to grasp it, especially seeing as the things they let go through the 80s from the 70s like Banshees, Sting, Weller, Phil Collins, Madness, to say nothing of the utter rubbish they obsessed over that arrived in like slagdonna and Spandau Ballet and S/A/W stuff and Starship.
Had the great honour of interviewing Ron and Russell when working for a charity that produced audio magazines for the blind....a more charming and approachable pair of musicians I have never met before or since - absolute gents!!
I totally agree with you! I'm a huge fan of THEM TOO! ! I feel a very deep KINSHIP in different ways! ! They haved CHANGED my LIFE in so many POSITIVE WAYS! Thanks Russell and Ron for ALL THAT AND MORE! !
That's funny because I interviewed them on behalf of Music Videos for the Deaf Int'l and they couldn't have been more rude! Weird...
Just kidding of course, hopefully not in bad taste :oD

True that about '79. I also love 1981.

Looking back, this is a revolutionary video for 1979! Great memories (age 13 at the time).

Agreed. I was 14

I love Mael brothers so much I can't say enough.. I heard Sparks only a few years ago for the first time and the music and stage image are crazy amazing and charming. There are no limits for Sparks, they're always pushing boundaries with absolutely fresh and genius sound, lyrics and sense of humor. Thank you for everything, Ron and Russell. Your art saves me when I feel dead inside, you're an obvious geniuses. I wish I was born many years ago to see your way from the very start, so it was great to see The Sparks Brothers documentary. Thank you!
As an 80's guy, I'm embarrassed to say I just heard this song yesterday, Feb. 16th. 2021....But I loved it
Same! Just discovering their incredible back catalogue now - what a find! They are AMAZING
First Sparks album I bought with pocket money. Introduced me to electronic music.
Now I have a house full of synths and rare Tag Watches.
Funny old world.
Better late than never
But _this_ is the crazy thing, the single came out the year before the '80s even started..... 1979! How do I know? The 7" was the first record I ever bought :)
There might be songs you heard by them but you didn’t know it was Sparks, like Monster of Love (I didn’t know it was by Sparks at the time myself.), it was in the Valley Girl soundtrack. Music That You Can Dance To? I remember that one on local college radio. They used to play Cool Places (with Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Gos) on MTV. Maybe I just spent too much time listening to music in my room or watching MTV back then, now that I think about it.
Saw them twice in Dublin, last June was the last and about 4 years before that. They still have the energy and Ron's dance moment is class.
Still never got to see them since 40 years of listening. Hopefully soon💕👌

Sparks was always "there" on the periphery back in the 80's.

I'm having a Sparks-fest right now. So ahead of its time. Loved this then, and it is still totally fab. Thank you lads.
State of art video. Classic. The forerunners for so many synth bands.
I used to rollerskate to this...LOL!!! Loved this song and requested it every Saturday at Skateway in Ottawa. This brings back so many memories!!
I mean, well it's Sparks, but the lyrics on this are astounding. Funny, existential and much more philosophical than is presented on the surface - combine that with a Moroder production, absolute gold - I love this so much.
I agree, for all the songs on the Number One In Heaven album, which starts with a song about sperm and ends with a song about heaven. Along the way is this manic, frenzied run through some strange man's life. Is the man in the song one of the Maels? Well, not on one level, it seems to be from the viewpoint of some disco goer, possibly gay - two flat feet, meeting Liz (Taylor, or the Queen), no time for relationships - or at least not a conventional family man let's say. Quite possibly on drugs like speed or amyl nitrate, certainly not someone gently saving away for their retirement. Hence the frantic urgency of the song, expressing that fast-living lifestyle. But more than that, could it be a metaphor for the Maels' own musical career? How by this point as band they'd seen everything, tried everything, and were now racing to beat their competitors in the field of electronic pop music? Or is it about society as a whole, the increased pace of life due to technology and social changes? No time to be a child and stroll gently through life, rather societal expectations to do more, quicker? I love how the song could mean any of these things, or it could mean none! All the songs on N1IH have the same multiple interpretations.
@@rebirthaudio2023 Well, indeed, you could have one interpretation one day, and another the next - all part of the joy! Enjoyed your comment, thanks! :)

As a 16 year old at the time saw you guys live it were absolutely amazing i came with my mum and stepdad for my first ever concert ill never forget that night you were fantastic ill definitely remember that night and ill be getting kids of my own into you guys too thank you so much for making it the best 😌☺️😍❤️

I love how home made it looks.
Best factory ever! I want 1 of those huge clocks w the handsome Sparks lying down the middle, who could beat that!!!
There's something about this group I can't ( and don't want to ) describe 🔥
James Murphy/ LCD Soundsystem definitely picked up a few tips from these guys.
James Murphy is the Quentin Tarantino of music. He basically cherry picks what other artists have done in the past and morphs em into his own thing. Like how Drunk Girls is basically a remix of Velvet Undergrounds White Light/White Heat
Whole generations of musicians picked up from them. They shaped electronic pop music but didn’t receive proper recognition. If you listen to their production in the 80s, you will tell a band for each song they made
such good times brought to mind as i dance to it again ;-)
Great lyrics. I remember the video when I was at school, they have always been fresh.
I was just 7 yrs old when this came out and loved it..I wanted the single and went to wheelers on the sat but I couldn't afford it, my brother bought it and after hogging it the whole sat finally let me take to my bedroom on strict order if I scratched it I was done for..I never scratched it but near wore it out for a time. These guys did loads of great songs and most of the time I didn't even realise the dogs were being sung by the same guys..until I was older..no.1 song all over heaven will always be my favourite. Rave music before there was rave...lol
Very modern, creative and still in fashion. I realized how Sparks were very avant gardist and how many singers copy them. I love their sens of humour.
I love this band.
