Great Reaction, Bro SalvoG! I was about 15 when this album was released, I'm now 62, and this is perhaps the best of all his tunes. He was ON FIRE at this time. If you haven't heard, " Grey Seal" from this album, give it an ear. It's of the same great brilliance! Salute!!

There are so many great tracks. Grey Seal, Saturday Night alright for Fighting, Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and I love The Song has No Title.
Just wonderful tracks off one double album, and none to be missed! ❤️

The same with the band Heart. Heart became the Wilson sisters. The Robin Trower band doesn’t get enough credit either. James Dewar (R I P) comes to mind also. He was the singer for Robin Trower. Trower is an amazing guitarist but his music wouldn’t have been the same without James’ singing. After being a Robin Trower fan for over 50 years, I still can’t tell you the drummer’s name.

I cut my young musical teeth on this album. My Aunt had it and I visited her one summer probably 1975 and stayed in the spare room where this album (and other very good ones were) and a record player were. The best musical summer of my life listening to those albums. This was my favorite. Many other great ones for sure in that orange crate of albums ahhhhh the memories!

After all these years I still believe that this was the finest piece of music that Elton has ever produced. I remember when Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road was released, a brilliant album but this imo was the pinacle. Amazing that this album is 50 years old in October this year !!

    • @clansome
      @clansome Před rokem +3

The first 1min 40 was played purely on an ARP 2500, an analog monophonic synthesizer which was overdubbed many times by the engineer David Hentschel and it wasn't until many years later that this could be recreated on polyphonic synths live rather than a backing track. A very good example is Live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 1995 where the synths are played by Guy Babylon czcams.com/video/Xodt5hF57Vg/video.html Sadly Guy passed suddenly in 2009.

I saw Elton live twice: the first time in 1975 at Dodger stadium. He opened with Your Song and 16 year old me cried, lol. We were on the field (crazy first come first serve, running onto the baseball field), it was phenomenal. I still remember his sequined Dodger outfit! The second time I saw him was in 2000 for his solo piano tour in a much smaller setting. He is an absolutely amazing artist and his blues playing is off the chain. You absolutely need to do a reaction to his song Wasteland, the live version in Tokyo. A fantastic blues song that doesn’t get enough credit.

    *FINALLY!!!!!*
I've been on you and a few other reactioners to do this song every time they do a Elton tune!!!!! LOL
I fully consider this to be Elton and Bernie's masterpiece. There's nothing in his repertoire that even comes close altho Elton has many many damn good songs that's just a statement and testament of how good this song is. Elton's band at this time it among if not the premiere musicians in the rock business and it clear shines in the remarkable song. Between Bernie's captivating lyrics and Elton's band's beautiful soaring musical performance. From it's eerie opening to it's hard driving main body with it's flawless transitions and musicianship that's above and beyond reproach it is a perfect song start to finish. I defy anyone to point out a weak spot or to suggest what could make it better.
Ty for this one Elton and TY Salvo for finally getting to it. I so glad you liked it and got the same emotional effect that I got when I first heard it and still get whenever I hear it.

There's a reason Elton John is one of the biggest selling artists ever with a career spanning more than 50 years.

My reaction was almost just like yours the first time I listened to this. Rock on, Bro!

One of those albums we all have or should have in our collections. I still have the original vinyl copy I bought it in 1979 as 12 year old.

The most impressive thing about this album is that it was written, composed and recorded fully within about a month's time. Arguably the best double album ever (Steve Wonder's SINKOL is in the discussion as well) and it was all done in a month's time. Today they can't even do all that with a regular album and it won't even come remotely close to this album. They put out albums today in 1 or 2 years that can't even come close to this one.

All due respect, there are a lot of double albums that would make the list. GYBR is certainly on the short list but I would put The Beatles (White Album), Who Quadrophenia, Layla & Other Love Stories on that list. My sleeper double album is Todd Rundgren Something/Anything…Todd is truly a genius

Todd is amazing on that one. All Things Must Pass and Out of the Blue are some other amazing double albums.

Grey Seal and All The Young Girls Love Alice are my two favorites from this album. Got to see him do the entire album, start to finish, two weeks before it was released. Started his tour in Dallas that year. Amazing.
