Awesome video. Even though it's an older bike it's the same process for any modern shock. Those tools you made are nice! The seal head setting tool is so nice to have when doing a shock.

Great video, very helpful on disassembly. I rebuilt a 1989 RMX250 shock, almost identical to what is presented in this video. If the shaft/piston/head assembly is installed in the manner shown - it will result in air within the system, as the seal head has a rather larger cavity on the bottom side that will never allow the air to purge, also the seal head is not correctly positioned and shaft is not fully extended, this causes incorrect oil volume. This "air" will end up within the compression adjuster when the shock is installed into bike.
The bleed screw located between the reservoir and main body needs to be utilized. Add oil into main reservoir and allow the oil to flow into reservoir slightly. Install the shaft assembly and stoke as shown in video, strike shaft eyelet with a plastic hammer to further remove air from valve stack, these steps will also clear air from compression adjuster, a torch can be used to flash air bubbles away. Hold a hand over reservoir to inhibit oil from further equalizing into reservoir , install seal head and clip, then pull/seat shaft assembly against clip (full extended). Add/remove oil as needed from reservoir and install bladder just until it seats the seal, then reorient shock body in vise so bleeder screw is pointed straight up. Remove screw and into the bleed port, install a small section of hose, appropriately sized funnel or syringe that will hold roughly 20cc of oil. The bladder and clip can now be fully installed and bladder can be pulled back against clip. Here is where the final air bleeding takes place. Make sure there is adequate oil in the bleed port oil holding device. Stroke the shaft in and out until you are certain all air has been bled from shaft assembly, finally shaft needs to fully extended out, remove oil holding device and reinstall bleed screw. I used 5wt oil and charged to the indicated 145psi nitrogen. After riding and comparing to original pre-rebuild ride quality, I feel 7wt oil and 200si is more appropriate . I lack the official specifications, so just my 2cents.

Hi how are you? I followed your advice to repair my 250 cr Monoshock. I couldn't get the nitrogen charge. So I inflated it with air. He walked well for a while and suddenly stopped walking. It looked like it had the spring alone. The next day he was back to normal. Could it be due to bad assembly and there is air left? Or is it the air in the bladder that causes this?
