They only notch the females if they see her with eggs or she's too big (or small, I think). But I think that some fisherment also notch lobsters that looks unique. I'm not sure though. (This is how I understood it as not all females can lay eggs)

I’m a diver and I’ve seen some really beautiful sea creatures. Even things like pufferfish which most people assume are boring can be really varying from your usual grey with white spots to a really bright yellow. They can also vary in size too- you get pufferfish the size of your fingernails to huge fat things almost 2 feet long.

What makes it beautiful is only the scarcity of it. If there were numerous blue lobsters with limited reds, one could say the same about the red lobsters.
@@yaimem its a one in two million because they have a genetic mutation that is unfavourable and makes them less likely to survive in their environments, its the same animal from the same species so breeding it with other blue ones or normal ones isnt just gonna make the same rare mutation happen, theyre like albino animals who just have a messed up gene that makes them lack pigment but it makes most animals blind and easily hunted because they cant blend in with their environments or compete for food properly compared to regular animals without it

That’s not something that can be easily passed down. Even if two parents were to have the albinism gene there’s still a 1 in 4 chance their child would be albino. The likely hood of the lobster passing down broken genes is very low. That’s exactly why it’s a 1 in 2 million chance of encountering one.
My uncle caught a Halloween lobster and donated it to the Boston Aquarium where it lives to this day. The white lobster is by far the rarest with the Halloween lobster coming in second place. Both are one in one hundred million+ finds.
But other fisherman might take it and kill it, i think it would be better if he put it in an aquarium or give it to a museum so it could be taken care of without it being at risk of being killed

Mmm they eventually stop molting and die by being squeezed to death in their shells. Pretty gruesome.

Legally cannot keep it. She has a notch in her tail, meaning she's an egg layer, has been caught before, and had eggs on her. The notch lets others know she is protected.

What makes it beautiful is only the scarcity of it. If there were numerous blue lobsters with limited reds, one could say the same about the red lobsters.

@@yaimem its a one in two million because they have a genetic mutation that is unfavourable and makes them less likely to survive in their environments, its the same animal from the same species so breeding it with other blue ones or normal ones isnt just gonna make the same rare mutation happen, theyre like albino animals who just have a messed up gene that makes them lack pigment but it makes most animals blind and easily hunted because they cant blend in with their environments or compete for food properly compared to regular animals without it
@@yaimem Because it’s a genetic abnormality. It’s like albinism where someone would be born with the absence of pigmentation despite have normal parents. That’s not something that can be easily passed down. Even if two parents were to have the albinism gene there’s still a 1 in 4 chance their child would be albino. The likely hood of the lobster passing down broken genes is very low. That’s exactly why it’s a 1 in 2 million chance of encountering one.

My uncle caught a Halloween lobster and donated it to the Boston Aquarium where it lives to this day. The white lobster is by far the rarest with the Halloween lobster coming in second place. Both are one in one hundred million+ finds.

I don’t think that fisherman is going to pass up on the money he’ll get by selling it to some aquarium shop. It really is no different than any of the other lobsters. In fact he’s lucky if he wasn’t blue he was destined to be eaten now he gets to lounge in a fish tank for the rest of his days.

That's a female, and she's illegal to keep. Peep that notch on her 2nd from the right tail flipper doodle. That means she's been caught before with a load of eggs. They're not allowed to keep breeding females.
It's most likely due to a very recessive gene. I don't think you could farm raise these if you tried.
I’ll never forget seeing a blue lobster in the Boston aquarium when I was little.
I've had the pleasure of hauling one out of a trap. We released it though. Blue lobster aren't the rarest either. They come in yellow, green, orange, multi-color. They can be split ex. Right side red left side yellow that's called a chimera. Then there's the cotton candy obster that's a 1:100,000,000 catch.
