    Your recommendation of the Swift SW380T was good timing. I upgraded to this microscope and find it excellent for my photography goals. I will try the dark field, thanks for that too. For those of your viewers who have this model, I have a measurement that will be critical when using the trinocular camera mount with their DSLR or mirrorless camera. When I called customer Support in Texas, they could not tell me the focus distance the camera’s sensor needs to be.
    If you measure the distance from the base of the black camera mount (where it meets the blue-ish base, to your camera’s sensor, it should be close to 90mm +/- 10mm. What this means is that if you are using a deep t-mount adaptor, your camera may be too high. I am using a M4/3 Olympus and I had to order a thinner T-mount adaptor. Once you get you camera lower down, the imaging should be great.

    Oh my GOD. That is incredible! I need to tweak it, I think I’ve got the black part off centre, but it is absolutely astounding. Thank you so much for this! I have the SW380B, and I can’t believe an instrument I own is capable of this!

    I used the clear plastic and paper method, I am perplexed. 4x and 10x objectives I get dark field, if I use 40x or 60x it looks like bright field with the light turned down too dim. I have tried sizes ranging from 15mm all the way to 24mm. I can get oblique illumination to work beautifully, which looks amazing I have to say.

    The diameter of the center black disk will depend upon the aperture of the objective. One cannot use one size disk for all objectives

    Thanks for the video, I just made one but using a piece of electrical tape for the black dot, worked like a charm! It really is quite nice for 40x magnification.

    That is way too cool. I have an Amscope T490B-DK scope and most recently purchased their optional non-turret version of a PC (Phase Contrast) Kit for $300 to convert to and experiment with that lighting technique. Now I have both darkfield/PC lighting options to work with! 👍

    Awesome explanation, however my condenser does not have a filter holder ( abbe 1970) is it possible to have the same effect if you place the stop patch on top of the iris?

    • @dylanschulz9118
      @dylanschulz9118 Před měsícem

      It should be possible, but will definitely require a different size. What you are doing is getting rid of the light pathway that directly hits the microscope objective but leaving the light pathway that would go around. So no light enters the objective directly from the light source, only if it is scattered by something - i.e. your sample

  • @daideno
    @daideno Před 2 lety +1

    this is great, but i have a problem. darkfield only works using the 15x eyepiece + 5x Objective ( w a L101 that has 5X, 10X, 45X(s) +5, 10X, 15X. Eyepieces: total 675X,) followed your exact specs. making the dark circle bigger does not work... is it the mirror ilumination? ( using ext ligth source) sorry 4 the bad english!

    I have the exact same microscope as you from video #6 (the educational one in the middle). It does have the ability to add darkfield, and I 3d printed many shapes to try out, and it works well at low resolutions, but I can't get it to work with the 40x objective. Did you try your filter on this microscope? I'm wondering if I'm missing any critical adjustment (e.g. open the diaphragm, lower the condenser, etc). Any tips are highly appreciated! :-)

      good i found this comment. I have the SW380T and have excellent results at 4x and 10x, but no luck at 40x - have all different filter sizes but no difference. Is your condensor perfectly centered? On the Swift there are no centering screws.

    hi, do you have any suggestion on how to enable dark field at 400x magnification? I have the swift SW380T, but somehow i cant get it to work. Best filter size for mine is actually 1,3 mm - 1,5 was a little too large (gave a dark brown blob in the center). Many thanks!

    • @MicrobehunterMicroscopy
      @MicrobehunterMicroscopy  Před 3 lety +2

      The filter size should be much larger, about 15mm for the 40x objective (it must be even larger). Watch this video: czcams.com/video/6hh5ZyU35yc/video.html

    You can move the place where you put the filter, like in 05:24, turn on the light and make some adjustments until you see a shadow in the slide. Will work like a filter. Somebody know how to make this tecnique work in high magnifications?

    I plan to get out my old wiring and substitute for usb rgb led light source that is controlled led via app/phone.
