I'm an American living in russia, I have a very wide and diverse social circle but I've never heard of anyone attending one of those model castings, so I think it's very uncommon. I've even asked girls if they've heard of them or know where to audition to be a model and they say no, of course not. Also we shouldn't assume that all agencies are fake, there is plenty of legitimate business in Russia and many Russian girls are in demand from reputuable businesses. I think this video actually plays into very harmful steryotypes. Things like this were likely more common 10-20 years ago, but now there are plenty of ways to earn money in Russia without modeling and people who want to work as models know they just need to grow their social media and opportunities will await them.
I know many russian girls and these agencies are practically everywhere. Maybe you dont know anyone. But I do. And its uncommon, but common enough that they recruit thousands of "models" each year.

Also the footage on this vid is quite old and they took it from a longer documentarty. I'm not saying it never happens but they're acting like it's a common occurance and that's just spreading missinformation.

The same is true with Ukrainian marriage agencies and I am sure it is the same in Russia. Agencies that carry details of youg women wnating to marry a western man who have no intention of doing so, but they get money by having their pictures and details on the agencies website. So, fake agencies are endemic in that part of the world.
It looks as though the narrator is deliberately avoiding terms such as prostitution, sex worker(s), and human trafficking. There are many other videos on CZcams that don’t shy away from such designations, so I’m sure it has nothing to do with guidelines. I think using such terms openly is more effective at getting your message across.

I lived in Russia for five years (2017-2022) and in my experience, this video is complete BS based on stereotypes from like 25-30 years ago, after the Soviet Union collapsed.
That was a period of extreme political turmoil, two Chechnya wars, an alcoholic president, t-rrorist attacks in the Metro, a market ruled by warring gangs, hyperinflation and currency redenomination, people's lifetime savings vanishing into thin air, adults becoming jobless overnight and teenagers (and even children) spending most of their time on the streets on their own, sniffing glue and ending up being victims of human trafficking. It was in the mid-1990s that mail-order bride agencies bloomed as many good looking and totally unexperienced young women were ready to grasp any opportunity they could to escape that reality.
But that's history now. Of course there are still huge issues to be fixed in Russian economy, but its life quality has significantly improved since then. Today many Russians run their own businesses, many people can afford to go abroad on holidays, to buy brand new vehicles, to wear trendy clothes. Women regularly indulge themselves in beauty salons and spend fortunes on make up and nail bars. And last but not least, the young generations were smart enough to learn to monetize their looks on the social media, which is especially true for young women. So, nowadays they are anything but desperate to get lured into those dubious offers this video talks about.
