Pahadi kahi bhi chla jae, comfort food is jholi bhaat, bhaat k chudkaani bhaat , allo k gutke bhang k chutney, , badi bhaat , pahadi kheere ka rayta🤤🤤🤤 This food is my life, no matter where I go♥️ Thank you for highlighting the simplicity , the taste , the nutritious food of kumaun uttarakhand ❤

Been to this restaurant a year ago and had mutton with nachni (ragi) bhakri. The food fulfilled not just our stomach but our souls too.. being a maharashtrian, I was surprised to see nachni bhakri there.

OH YUUUUMMMMM. Been to Neem Karoli baba's ashram last year and stayed in a small town called Bhowali which is only 7 kms from this ashram. there I tasted the bhang ki chutney with boiled chana. they serve this with tea in tea shops along the mountain roads. Everything about the mountains is just amazing. the landscapes, the weather, the people and definitely the food. The owner of the hotel where I stayed was so nice, he actually sent me some Bhat ki dal and bhang by courier to Mumbai when it was in season. will definitely visit this place in my next trip. Nepalese make an interesting combination of the nettle leaf with ragi. they cook the ragi in boiling water till it becomes like a smooth lump. quite similar to the Ragi Mudde made in Karnataka. they eat that soft ragi lump with nettle leaf sabzi which is cooked with a little sattu to give it some body. its probably the most healthiest food you can find in the mountains.

It is a very ordinary hotel clean room, western toilet and hot water in tap. they serve dinner for an additional nominal price which is good simple food of roti sabzi dal chawal. This hotel is right at Bhowali chowk. The owner is a very nice guy. prices are budget friendly. do bargain a bit. during offseason prices can be a bit cheaper. all kinds of transport be it buses or shared taxi connecting to Nainital, Neem Karoli Ashram, even buses for Almora is only 2 mins away. you can reach Bhowali from Haldwani bus depot by a Kumao transport bus. If you are a solo traveller like me, dont hesitate to ask for lifts from 2 wheelers to travel locally. Pahadi people understand the complexities of public transport in these regions and they will very graciously give you a lift if they are on the same route. and even if it gets dark and you are on some lonely road in the mountains - it is very safe. just keep walking till you find a bus or a 2 wheeler to take you to the nearest bus depot to reach ur destination.

Jai Bholenath..I have to try bhang ki chutney
I can share you the recipe. take bhang seeds about 100 gms. dry roast it for about 3-4 mins. first grind this to a powder. then add a fistful of Pudinah, 3-4 green chillies salt and plain yogurt to this. grind it all together. lastly add 2 tsp of lemon juice to this. mix well and enjoy. some people also add a few drops of sesame oil to this. Bhang seeds also called Hemp seeds are very nutritious. the way they eat it in Uttrakhand is with boiled brown chana. brown chana is cooked as usual in cooker. do not discard the water after cooking chana. season it with light masala like a little dhania powder chili powder salt ect. serve the chana along with the now spiced water and pour a few teaspoons of this bhang chutney over it and enjoy. its both healthy and very delicious. what vadapav is to Mumbai its chana bhang in Uttrakhand.

Yes but here shalgam is usually used in that curry(jholi) that’s why he said turnip. In kumaon region we say muli only, be it turnip or radish.

Nepal has similar type of food too mainly in far west hilly region, almost similar only the difference is their name like nettle is called sisnu where as curd with radish is called 'paleu'

This series has wonderfully authentic content, but it is very disgusting and irritating to see Mr. Vijaykar talking with his mouth full... especially when he is leaning over the dishes while doing so... they should come up with some solution in this aspect..
