Initial impressions with Dean Speed, the Rampage Slip Ons, and how they sound with and without the baffles on my 2020 Indian Scout.
Overall: highly recommended and impressed with the craftsmanship.

I've dealt with Dean Speed since last August, Mykah the owner has personally taken my phone calls answering any questions I have, great small company out of Phoenix AZ. So far I have put their tank lift kit on, they have so many different handle bars but picked the Skinnyz, and a sissy bar, quality of all 3 products are amazing, oh, just in from mail, a set of rear slider from them too. Will be installing them this weekend. Now I have a 2020 HD softail standard, I personally wanted loud exhaust and went with VH big shots, but from this video, sound close to the Rampage without baffles. Can't say enough good things about this company and their products.
I've had the same experience. Mykah answered all of my questions and was so helpful! I tell everyone I know about them and wear their hat everywhere I go.
Since I bent my crash bars (no name brand from amazon), I decided to order more from Dean Speed. I'm so excited for them!
Just got mine. You weren’t lying when you said just get them! Very happy
Nice!! Glad to hear
Just ordered with the baffles! Thanks so much for the discount code too!!
Glad to hear it!! You're going to love them.
I just put these on my scout rogue. I used your code so thank you. Installation was kind of a pain getting the holes to line up. The sound I cool I think. I gotta get used to it. It’s so different from the stock ones. The weight savings is nice. I have the baffles in and it’s loud but not crazy and low rpm’s won’t bother neighbors.
Awesome! Yeah getting it all lined up was a bit of a hassle for me too. I'm glad you like them!
How much weight does it shave off roughly? Also how much does it cost? Thanks
I put the Dean Speed pipe on my Victory Octane. Holy crap are these loud. I need to find a set of the quiet baffles to at 10 decibels off that note.
They do have the baffles that temper it down, and it still sounds good.
thank you so much! I placed an order today. I just bought a 16 scout as my first bike and the previous owner removed the baffles from the stock pipe making it super loud to the point I cant hear my music or even have a conversation with fellow friends at a stop. Don't get me wrong it the stock without baffles sounded lovely...to an extent.
Haha welcome to the tribe! Yeah everyone has different preferences. I've kept my baffles in and it stays plenty loud enough and doesn't cause a disturbance with the neighbors.
Love my Rampage pipes on my Scout 60, baffles. Sell Dean speed Customs gear down under here in New Zealand and have a lot of happy customers who have these pipes. I insist on baffles installed. I have had Maverick Crushers and V&H 3 inch slash cuts, these are nicer and more tolerable.
I've yet to meet anyone or hear of anyone who hasn't been satisfied with Dean Speed.
@@Valorcycle great guy, great gear, Mykah is an aftermarket parts pioneer for the Indian Scout, wish him all the best.
@@murraycolquhoun4540 100% agree. My interactions with Mykah were awesome. Any questions I had he answered within a few hours, and he sent me replacement parts when my bracket didn't align properly for slip ons no questions asked.
Really really nice. Like have been said, I'm also looking for an exhaust that isn't obnoxious for neighbors and also for my passenger. I rode a friend of mine Scout with the Rainhart (not sure if it spelled right) and my wife had a headache after 1 hour because of the exhaust.
Did you do any tuning after installing the exhaust? Like a power commander or something like that? Do you think would be needed?
I added the baffles because after riding for 3+ hours my ears did get "ringy" afterwards even with earplugs.
With slip ons you generally dont need to recallibrate. If you add a hi flow air filter, then you'll likely need one but mine is still on stock.
How do these compare to something like Vance and Hines slash cuts for volume?
I'm not 100% sure but I'd estimate they're similar.
Did you order the quiet baffles separate? Or are you just using the base baffles?
I was using the extra baffles they sent with the exhaust.
What size sissy bar is that? I hear it’s best to get the longest one they make if you plan on getting the padded on for a passenger, is that right?
I have the 24" (the longest one) and have a passenger pad. It fits well with my wife. Generally speaking I think what you said is correct, but you really can't go wrong with anything from Dean Speed.
Are the baffles easy to put in and take out? Say if I wanted it loud one day and less loud the next then back to loud.
Yeah it's simple. Just remove the screw, nut, and get some pliers to remove. Might take a little force but it's not too bad.
Hardest part is it just aligning everything for the install.
Are you still rocking these? My new job has me leaving house at 530 and the GP shorties are WAY too loud. These with baffles you think are ok? Also are you running air intake and a tune with these? Curious if there is a performance difference.
I am! With the baffles they are still noticable, you might still be pissing off your neighbors that early in the morning.
I have a K&N performance intake and the dealer said no tune was needed. I *think* I noticed a performance increase but that'll really happen without the baffles in to really open it up. I never did a dyno run to see any numbers so I can't say for sure.
Just went to the dealer for my maintenance. I have the Rampage on order. Told them I’m installing it soon. I was advice to have it tune. In theory, it’s slip on. Does not affect performance . But, they say the Scouts don’t have the catalytic converters, that is why they have long pipes. Is this more for eco/ earth friendly or the back pressure really changes?
@@ericd.3705 I'm not an expert on that so I could only speculate. There are also differences between state regulations too. I'm in CA so that will have some additional nuances compared to other states. All I can say for sure is I love them and dont forget to use code Valorcycle to save 5% off! 😁
Did the exhaust come with the baffles? The site says sold separately
At the time when I bought them, I just had to ask for them to be shipped. Now they are sold separately it seems.
Can u still rock the Indian heat shields
Yes! No issues with the stock heat shields.
@@Valorcycle thanks man
Great video, exactly what I was looking for. Do you have the quiet baffles or the stock baffles the exhaust comes with?
The pipes don't automatically come with baffles (at least when I ordered it). I am only aware of one kind of baffles for these slip-ons that come from Dean Speed.
@@Valorcycle awesome, thank you! I'm glad I ordered the baffles then.
@@xMaximilian614x Yeah, I like them better with it in. You're going to be super happy with them!
Hey man do u have installation video ?
I don't unfortunately. I installed them prior to starting the channel. The installation process is pretty simple and I'm happy to walk you through it if you need help.
@@Valorcycle yeah I think I’m missing a plate attachment that tighten to both exhausts and to the OEM bar on chassis to which the stock exhausts were attached
@@sukhjindersingh9448 Yes you should have a black plate that has 4 holes on it. That plate goes onto the chassis, and then you attach the exhaust to the plate with the screws. There is a "bar" with two holes that will slide into the outside of the exhaust, this is what connects the exhaust to the bracket with the screws.
If you're missing that plate, reach out to Micah and he should send you a replacement.
@@Valorcycle yeah I’m missing that plate. I have sent them an email. Let’s see how it goes. But man I really like the exhaust with the quiet baffles in these are the best sounding exhaust. Just at the sweet spot between stock pipes and Vance & Hines. Totally tolerable
@@sukhjindersingh9448 Yeah totally agree. I've had the baffles in for a few thousand miles and they still sound great! Not obnoxious, but still gives it a great personality.
Louder or Softer than Reinharts?
I'm not sure. I've only heard Reinhart's in video's so it's difficult to say with certainty which are louder.
Quieter than the Crushers?
I dont know if I've ever heard them so cant say for sure.
@@Valorcycle no problem, thanks
Did you have to tune your bike?
Nope! I also have a K&N high intake air cleaner. Dealer said no tune necessary.
I’ve been looking for an exhaust for my bobber and these seem loud but not obnoxiously loud like the Vance and Hines. How would you compare these to them
Without the baffle, they are borderline obnoxious depending on how conservative you want to be. With the baffle, I think it's not going to make anyone angry (within reason). I highly recommend these, even without the baffle. Great rumble, good sound, and look great.
Valorcycle do they come with baffles or do you have to order them separate?
I just asked for them, and Mykah (the owner) sent them over for free.
Valorcycle sweet thanks for all the help
Do you need to tune?
Nope!
I ordered them lol
@@ljml1982 enjoy! I still love them.
