    I worked at Goodwill for 12 years,and most employees don’t have a damn clue about 90% of the items they mark for 1.99 are worth far more. I recently bought a set of Annette Himstedt dolls for 24.99 and resold them for 350.00. I LOVE when people are able to get deals!

    Good on all of the buyers!!! Weird how some people seem to be unable to recognize a VERY valuable object, but then, there you are.

    I bought a 1950s Nikon rangefinder camera at GW for 15 dollars. It was in perfect condition. Sold it on eBay for 900 dollars!

    Always check the books at the thrift store..I once found $300 in a "For Dummies" book.

    I used to thrift and resell stuff as just sort of a hobby but made about 10k a year on the side doing it for fun. My best score was form a Savers thrift shop and was a set of three original Japanese modern art prints by an artist named Sadao Watanabi that I paid $1.99 each for and sold for a total of $625. That gooseberry Pyrex at 4:20 was a great score!
    Also, 8:25 - if those are really vintage and the poster actually collects them that’s a terrible idea as they will all get tons of sun damage and be completely ruined.

    My best find was a brand new pair of Converse slip ons, they were canvas and mesh, and the soles were foam. Fit like a glove. Wore them till they were unwearable. Haven't found the same pair online since.

    I remember aluminum Christmas trees...my favorite with the rotating-colored light shining on it. Timeline 5:50.

    I found a brand-new pair of flannel pajamas at a Goodwill once (still had the spare button in a bag) for $6. I Googled the brand name when I got home, and those same pj’s were selling for $40 retail! I felt righteously smug then! 😁
    Another time, my husband and I found a die cast metal Napa semi tractor-trailer at the Salvation Army for $2.50. This was a fancy one with moveable side mirrors and all the doors opened and closed. Flipped it on eBay for $65 not counting shipping!
    And in the “keepers” category, my younger daughter got a pair of formal dresses in her size for FREE at a neighbor’s yard sale this fall! She said one is for homecoming and the other is for prom, and since she’s a junior she’ll wear them for next year’s dances too and save money that way. Also, I saw a Mikasa glass Christmas platter at the Mile-Long Yard Sale in our county years ago, but I didn’t get it because it was $5 and I was stretching my budget out. Well, after finding several other dishes that were apparently part of the same style at thrift stores and other yard sales, the next year I came back to this sale hoping the platter was still there. Wonder of wonders, it WAS still there! Needless to say, that platter came home with me! Who says miracles don’t happen at yard sales?

    The Ralph Lauren sweater said "hand knit" then label said "made in China" I didn't know the sweat shop slaves could knit.

    That camera kit at the end seems to be virtually worthless over here in the UK. I have three decent 35mm SLR bodies (1 Canon AE1, 1 Olympus OM101, and a Praktica, with a selection of lenses and flashguns for each of them, and a local junk shop wouldn't even take them for free as they won't sell. I have seen a literal BASKET of film cameras, including Pentax and Nikon going for £50.

      They'd be in demand here, with the surprising revival of film shooting amongst Gen Zs.

    • @christopherdean1326
      @christopherdean1326 Před 5 měsíci

      @@ArtamStudioI know of nowhere that even sells 35mm film these days, so any revival would be quite short lived. I don't doubt there are sources online, but no shops that I know of..

    8:42 I love that painting as well. It’s called “The Floor Finishers” and has a companion painting. My copy is a print poster from the de Young Museum in San Francisco purchased when the painting was actually at the museum in the mid 80s.
