It was already foreshadowed... Going throught wife's memory, we hear that medical personnel is taking about the archive machine as someone is dead.
This movie is a copy of the central idea of Philip K. Dick's novel Ubik.

I finally figured out what all the J-Robots represent in his psyche: Id, Ego, and Superego.
*Id:* J-1 the primitive one. Like a baby or toddler it communicates through wants and desires. Mostly maintaining basic needs. It doesn't rebel, it doesn't even dream. It wants what George wants, nothing more, nothing less.
*Ego:* J-2, the deep one. It constantly strives to find it's own meaning. It wants to fulfill it's purpose by helping George constantly. And when it feels it's of no use to George anymore, and it's own being isn't useful, it ends itself.
*Superego:* J-3 the loved one. It feels the most range of emotions, all revolving around George. Fear when being completed, passion in when she wants to please him, anger when it discovers the truth. Even in it's own demise, it's willing to sacrifice itself just to make George happy.
Overall, not a perfect synopsis as every robot dips into the other's a bit. They are all part of George's theatre of mind after all. Would also explain why George's archive began to die once J-2 did.
oOh it sorta makes sense.

J2 was essentially a child who gets neglected but j3 is fully conscious and developed in her thought processes and yet she is faced with death simply because her Creator and the person she feels love for does not feel the same way. Great movie with fantastic ability to bring out emotion.
This gives me the thought that J3 agreed to overwritten because she didn't wish to live with the misery that G wouldn't love her back. But when she realized there was no overwriting she pretended there was so that G would love her. That's why she didn't want him to answer the final call.

My 1st wife died when she was 25. I could easily program a ChatGPT4 with her likes and dislikes, biography, major memories, and some basic personality traits, along with her photo as an avatar. Maybe I could even animate the avatar in VR. But a human being can't be replicated or replaced. Not by cloning, AI, cybernetics, or any combination thereof. Even if you create a genuinely self-aware and sentient being, it will be its own person rather the one you're trying to replace.

I immediately stopped watching after a few seconds in to watching this, tracked down the film on Amazon and watched it with Prime.
This was the most heart breaking film I've ever seen. Seeing what was happening to J2 through the film and his dismissal was making me feel uneasy and I could feel J2's rejection, abandonment, and eventual emotional crash. "I see dead robots!"
Yes, that's basically what this movie is 👍.
lol true
Was George dead throughout the whole movie? And the company was only using his knowledge to build a robot? Or was the robot already built and he was just part of the company
George is dead, but the company wasn't building a robot. What was happening here is his consciousness was uploaded to their archive so he could "technically" live a little bit longer and communicate with his wife. It was just a digital copy of him since his real body and mind were already long gone. From what I understand, the main purpose of the Archive is to provide the family a little bit more time with their deceased loved ones even though the person they are talking to isn't actually the same person. The family knows this, but it allows them some closure. Ultimately, the events of the entire movie could be considered a final dream during George's last moments, albeit the last moments of "Artificial Intelligence George" rather than "human George," since "human George" has been long dead.

Maybe we are all conscious being in a compute unaware that we are all dead
For such a conciousness, biologically alive and dead become choices. There are advantages to sense and emotion that would be impoverished by the knowledge of one's own greater immortality. Value is always guaged by comparison in context, most of what we consider of value is finite or made to seem more finite. If we cannot be finite then perhaps we can pretend to be.

I can't remember where I heard it, but the best plot twists are the ones you can see coming. Like hints throughout the movie, that upon rewatching are totally obvious. It took a moment for the subplot to sink in, but I believe this is it. George represents a single parent after losing their spouse. He has not fully grieved over the loss. J1 and J2 represent his children. J3 represents George's new love interest. Now that J1 and J2 are vying for the attention of their "father," they begin to experience shame, depression and anger. Naturally, the children resent J3 (note that J2 attempts to sabotage J3 as well as create dissension amongst family members). Unfortunately one of the 'siblings' cannot cope with how things are and they resort to suicide, which further complicates the father's relationship and existence.

Gotta say this would make a good intro to anyone who's interested in watching a Sci-Fi setting that isn't your normal outing. I liked it but it certainly didn't do anything that stuck out. It was more like a collection of stories from other sci-fi settings meshed into a product that's just perfectly fine with being slightly above average. I'm sure it'll be really more appreciated by anyone who's not already familiar with the ideas it pushes forth.
I saw I different film than you! Or rather, I interpreted things differently. Mainly, George isnt imagining Jools, these are flashbacks (check out the scar, it isnt there in every scene with Jools as it was before the fatal car crash). And I didn't notice that he realised which of them was really in the archive, until that very last part. He didn't know he was a father, he was living in an electronic dream, which is why the few other characters were so very odd.
I enjoyed the film, but the vast change between those 3 robots was just too huge.

THE THING IS NOBODY THOUGHT THAT, GEORGE’s CONSCIOUSNESS and reality in the black box somnolence was constructed by Archive company, they created an environment that they once promised him before he died, and SINCLAIR were stealing his data of AI engineering. If j3 was able to talk to his wife, and 200hour call time is just a t&c archive made, GEORGE’s technology would have worked on real life and reunited with his wife, he could have practically use the same technology to copy his consciousness to a body like j3 in real world, but in he end it was just the company stealing his work and shut him off just because of the contract!
