Gabrielle Drake was GORGEOUS-- and actually at 71 is STILL an extremely good looking classy lady!!!
True, she is still an extremely good looking lady

@@roywatson8133 I wouldn't know that-- wasn't into that back then- but his SIS sure caught my attention!!! :)
She was born in March the 30th 1944 so she couldn't have been 71 two years ago if she's 80 this year.
I remember watching this scene as a child. I seem to love this scene for some reason. Now I know why.
Lol
two reasons...
Two nice reasons!
It's odd that it was largely aimed at kids and featured very beautiful women.
ahhhh bliss x
Anyone else ever noticed that in Sci-fi the 'futuristic' clothes always look very representative of the era in which the shows were made?
Yup. Star Trek had hippies "We reach man" They also had a 1960's paranoid american mindset even though the show was set 300 years in the future. UFO had Beatles suits, go go dancer costumes and everyone smoked around highly sensitive computer equipment. Space 1999 had flared trousers.
The problem with Sci fi TV is although it's generally set in the future the costumes and attitudes are anachronisms.
just look at barbarella ..... pure S ...
Now, now - who's gonna complain about a vision of the future in which the 60s-era miniskirt replaces all other forms of female attire?
Yes, I've always noticed that. If you nothing about the film beforehand you can pretty much tell what era it was made by the fashion and hairstyles. A few years ago there was an episodic cable TV Sci-Fi show where almost everybody had tattoos. They all looked like modern-day hipsters.
UFO was a much better series than 1999 was.
I think was probably the best thing Anderson ever did. Some of the episodes are so dark
@@glenchapman3899 I couldn't believe they replaced it with Space 1999 it was so dry and boring.
@@philrichards9232 Yeah the first season of Space 1999 and it was not too bad. When the shape shifter chick showed up the show went down faster than the Titanic
I've been researching Space 1999. It's not brilliant but it's not that bad. It definitely went downhill after the first season.
Not a truer word was spoken
What a great reminder of this old-school cinema trick. The use of the mirror reveal. So Retrolicious!!
When i was a kid, I always wondered how so many of those UFOs got through. Now I know.
People…. Was was, was ah “ busy”
We will go with busy.
This is the first TV show that blew my mind, when I was a kid.
Gabrielle Drake certainly blew mine and I was only eight at the time.
I'll settle for a DVD of this scene repeated over and over again, please.
It's on Prime...
Particularly in slo-mo.

One of my favorite scenes 😍 I said many times I'd be volunteering for Moonbase duty all the time as long as LT. Ellis wason duty💞💖
UFO was ahead of its time for women sported purple hair, pretty much like they do nowadays! I used to love this show, especially the cars. That's when I first saw a 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado popping it's headlights up and my jaw dropped because it looked like a spaceship on wheels! What a beauty! Love the metallic outfits! Thanks for sharing!
They might have got the hair right, but they sure whiffed on the poundage.

After the ωεf got founded in 1971 and screwed it all up for us.
And 50 years plus since this series was made you are now IN the future...CZcams iis a time capsule and we are going back to the Moon to stay with Artemis.. I hope to see a Moon base in my life time 🚀👍 (30/1/2023)
Then you get to the “future” and it sucks because it didn’t turn out to be futuristic like the past was.
Gabrielle Drake, still remembered after all this time. For the rest, the future has turned out to be rather a disappointment
Most have passed away. That's why. And a lot from cancer. Makes you wonder about the studios and the insulation etc.
The ωεf took over the world.
Just preceding this scene she was commanding a situation where multiple UFOs were approaching Earth and an all out attack was imminent.
Glad she had time for a little soft burlesque before Earth was annihilated.
Interesting that this show was made in 1970 but was set in 1980 and here we are in 2022 and we still don't have a Moon Base or Space Interceptors.
But we have welfare skanks and commie parasitism.
@TrueFact or $10,000 on a hammer?
And the only aliens shooting at us are at the border!
We got the purple hair
@TrueFact they have sh...t mor..n
Cracking pair of knockers!!
They can engineer a space ship but they cannot make doors the correct size for people.
Guess you have never been in a ship, pressure doors require a lip to seal.
Big doors are a weak point on a ship, bigger the door, the heavier the door, the weaker the bulkhead and the larger the seal required.
It's like this inside a lot of ships.
As a 14 year old teenager watching this it led to many an eventful afternoon with a box of scotties
I bet! I was a few years older and I got through a few tissues myself! Gabrielle Drake had that sort of effect on me!
Runny nose? Copious amount of tears? Seeing a purple-haired sci-fi babe doesn't make me sad at all! Matter of fact, I feel like . . . NOW I GET IT!👽

@@Nooziterp1 I don't think CZcams will show the entire film but it occasionally comes on TV late nights and is well worth recording and watching ..and watching...and watching.
It's basically a soft porn film with a cast that now you'd think "Really? He/she used to get their their kit off in their early career? They wouldn't now".
I am still in love with Lt Ellis.
As much as I liked those purple-haired Moonbase babes' outfits BEFORE I saw this, I like 'em even BETTER now! 😉

I think thats Gabrielle drake.. Her late brother nick drake was a fantastic songwriter who should be better known.
Yes it is. His stuff's okay but not great. Used to work in a charity shop where they played it all the time.
My two favorite sci-fi women from the '70's are Jenny Agutter in "Logan's Run", and this lady.
Gee... I wonder what they have in common?
Gabrielle Drake as Lt. Ellis in UFO.
They're both posh, and both aged well?
@@thursoberwick1948 Well, yes, that too. But as a libidinous teenager growing up in the 1970s, I have to say that I was mainly focused on their incredible legs and how great they both looked in those miniskirts!
@@movierun I looked up Gabrielle Drake recently and I'm impressed. Same with Jenny Agutter. Some women lose their looks very quickly - e.g. Hayden Panettiere within about five years. They've both aged gracefully.

Gabrielle Drake , The perfection...
Now that's the kind of future I can get behind!

This was one of my favourite programs as a youngster. Happy memories.
Ya know.. with all the super duper technology they had in SHADO... wouldn't you think they'd make the doorways on Moonbase a little higher? Poor old Lt. Ellis has to duck all the time and she's only 5'4"!
Think about Col. Foster, Lt. Waterman, Lt. Bradley, CMDR Straker, Col. Freeman...
I suppose the space stations were designed like ships and submarines. All bulkheads and beams.
Considering they all smoked, no ashtrays?
@@dalethelander3781 Zzzzzzactly! They stoop to conquer (the aliens).

OK so a guy sitting on the other side of a partition sees the whole undressing from the strategically placed mirror?
yep and the woman knew he was watching
Somebody finally noticed. I bet he didn't complain of any retakes.
I don't want to put anyone off buying the DVD (and I think people who are old enough to remember this series still like to own physical media), but be prepared to be disappointed. Too many times I have hankered after the TV of my youth (Morecambe and Wise, On the Buses, Carry on films etc.) only to be massively disappointed by how badly they have aged. I loved UFO as a kid, and I haven't seen it for decades, but I have the nasty feeling that it won't be as good as I remembered it. I just find 1970s acting, writing and production values really clunky compared with today. But that's just me.
I grew up with it, so it's never bothered me. I still enjoy the old shows.
OMG, I loved Lost in Space as a kid then saw it again in college and was so sad to discover it was stupefyingly bad. I bet The Night Stalker would hold up. I was older when I watched that one so had more discretion. Darren McGavin was a treasure.
Aspects of this show do hold up. The sound of the UFOs (in space, no less) was pretty creepy.
The Interceptors still have an insect or mantis coolness to their tech, but they were one-shot fighters. They let their one missile go and they’re done.
I agree with you about owning physical DVDs and how awful On the Buses and the Carry On films are.
I totally disagree about Morecambe and Wise. Compared to today's so called comedy their shows are a work of genius.
@@badamsfx Lost in Space is really bad. It's about the level of the worst episodes of the original Star Trek.
When I was 8 we had a French au pair stay with us who bore a close resemblance to Gabrielle Drake, think it was the first time I fell in love.

Love the outfits and short skirts. Notice the girls were naturally thin and healthy.
OK, it's true that people back then were a lot slimmer than today, but don't forget that actresses are representative of the general population.
I had a friend who emigrated to California in the 1990s, and I recall him telling me "Look, of course I knew that Baywatch was a complete fantasy, but I still had to go to the beach just to check it out. Unfortunately none of the girls looked like the ones on TV"
