      How do you get that fat lead sound?

  • @4dmind
    @4dmind Před 4 lety +11

    Not only use a tube screamer, but use as little as you can get away with - I will use a TS-808 or an Xotic BB Pre with a tiny amount of pre - like 0.4 out of 10 on the dial, depending on the pedal. Just enough to push the head a little, but not enough to push you into mushy town. Great video!

    Yes! Your EQ is essentially a band-pass - not as aggressive as and actual band pass, but it makes it more pronounced. Same thing applies to vocals in some circumstances.

    I would really like to know how to get a smooth lead guitar tone but something more along the lines of a lower Amon Amarth Lead, where they are playing on the lower strings for lead and not higher strings. I am really very much struggling at the moment to get a good tone and or mix such a task. Any help is beyond very much appreciated, thanks \m/

    How do you even achieve that sound on a guitar? what kind of gear do you need?

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  Před 3 lety +2

      This tone was recorded with a cheap Steinberg two channel interface and nothing more. All you need is an amp sim plugin and a solid IR (which you can download for free via the link in the description).

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  Před 4 lety +2

    noob question, why do you turn up the bass and the tremble nobs on the amp and then roll off the high and bass on the eq? (i dont understand turning those up andd cutting those frequencies on the eq)

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  Před 4 lety +3

      Hey man! The reason why I use high-pass filters is to roll off all frequencies below a certain cutoff point. The tone knobs on an amp don't filter frequencies in the same way. Also, adjusting the low/mids/highs on an amp can sometimes affect the way the amp feels when playing through it, so it makes more sense to keep them as they are and filter in the mix.
