I love the compression lock on my PM2 but I think my favorite model now is the Stretch 2 in K390! I’m so glad my dad got me into knives and still to this day, I get my dad a new Spydie for his birthday every year.

    My favorite is the Paramilitary 2, I own two of them so far in both CPM S35VN and S30V. Lightweight, strong pocket clip that can go in any of 4 locations, easy to open/close, awesome grip from the g10 scales and blade jimping, blackened blades have a beautiful finish, strong lockup, centered blades that are wicked sharp and made in the USA.
    I've owed plenty of knives throughout my 54 years being in the military, law enforcement, outdoorsman and collector of blades. I even made knives in Ellenville NY at the Imperial Schrade Knife company. Spyderco to me is the best balance in price and quality overall.

    I bought my first Spyderco 20Feb85 at the PX in Ft. McClellan. I had a Buck 112 when I processed into basic but it was confiscated as contraband by my drill Sgt. Who woulda thunk it, a Knife contraband, in the army!?
    Anyway, that's when I was infected.
    I don't remember the model but I do remember it was very reasonably priced and the blade steel was something called ATS-55, talk about an upgrade from the Buck!
    I recently paid another visit to Golden, (22Apr17) and left with a Manic 2 with the Blurple G-10 scales, and CPM S110v, it was a tough choice as I would just as soon buy one of everything, and two of a few!
    I really enjoyed learning more about the history behind my favorite knives,.

    Spyderco consistently has some of the sharpest blades as-boxed I have seen. I would be very curious to see that part of the process.

    • @maxguitarhero
      @maxguitarhero Před 9 lety +2

      They could achieve that level of sharpness utilizing a 400 grit belt on each side, deburring, then turning a worn out belt inside out, loading it with green compound and power stropping it. This is how I'd suspect it'd be done after looking at various knives of theirs.

    • @CliffStamp
      @CliffStamp Před 9 lety +1

      Maxwell Super I would guess belt + buffer, just for speed. I am curious how fast they can/do it as they are fairly consistent.

      Maxwell Super
      Trade secrets.....

    • @maxguitarhero
      @maxguitarhero Před 9 lety +1

      I'm not sure about the buffer, unless it's a fairly solid buffing wheel there would tend to be some haze from the area on the blade behind the edge bevel from it being polished as well. Though you could be right.

    • @maxguitarhero
      @maxguitarhero Před 9 lety

      Cliff Stamp Honestly if I had a blade blank of theirs and three 1x30 sanding units with a 220 grit, 400 grit, and the loaded belt I'd desribed I'd wager with all of them running I could put a very sharp edge on the blade with fair consistency in less than a minute a blade after a bit of practicing repetition and the muscle memory.
      The edge obviously would not be as strong as if it were sharpened by hand as the metal would be fairly stressed, but it would be quite keen and fairly decent still providing the edge is not burned (all these assumptions are assuming the person sharpening is fairly skilled and would avoid this obviously).

Really glad that the founders of the best and most famous knife companies are from the good old, conservative american type of people. In this sense, their knives are, in terms of spirituality, what the katanas were for the japanese. More than tools or weapons - they are a continuation of the anglo-saxon or/and the american spirit itself. Mythical, yet humbling. God bless!
