This honestly could have been an easy top 20 in my eyes. Fawlty Towers, Emmerdale, Countdown, Last Of The Summer Wine, not forgetting all the classic children's TV themes we have!

Only Fools and Horses has such an iconic theme, that I sing along every time. Same goes for the closing theme song.
WOW, that's news to me, Eric Spear was only paid £6 to create the most iconic theme tune (Coronation Street) on UK TV! That's crazy!
The theme to "Spitting Image" still brings a smile to my face.
The theme to The Avengers, the first British theme song that snagged my consciousness.
The Cook Report (1989-1990 & 1991-1994), 999 (1992-1999), Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends (Series 1-7), TUGS, Robot Wars (Classic Series), Blockbusters (Bob Holness Era), Knightmare, Treasure Hunt, The Crystal Maze, Gladiators & The Great British Bake Off are All Bangers of Theme tunes!
Even before I clicked the video, I knew Doctor Who was going to be #1.

The it crowd theme always reminded me of Gary Newmans are friends electric, you could tell it was inspired by Gary Newmans music

One last mention. I know this show was presented by Rolf Harris but that aside, I have always liked the Animal Hospital theme music.
I grew up in the 90s too, so i agree with the Grange Hill tune, brings back wonderful memories of all the classic shows i watched. We were blessed my friend, today's youth wish they had the 90s to grow up in.
There are so many! And a few of these i remember in the early 90s it was a phase that some were sampled on rave songs 🤣

“Thunderbirds are go for any occasion” as it’s been my number 1 show since childhood I couldn’t put it any better. So glad that after many things like the BBCs 100, the show’s finally getting more public recognition.

Doctor Who, Blake’s 7, Red Dwarf, Inspector Morse, Dads Army, Joshua Jones, Fireman Sam (1987-1994), Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Terrahawks, London’s Burning (1997-?), Soldier Soldier, Top Gear, The Bill (Original series), Monty Python's Flying Circus, Mr Benn
I agree with other comments about doing a kids tv show version of this, ones that come to mind are Danger Mouse, Rainbow, Art Attack, and Horrid Henry.
Antiques Roadshow theme is a classic, surprised it wasn’t on here. Other themes worth mentioning because they are equally as iconic are Fawlty Towers, Emmerdale, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Tales of the Unexpected, Heartbeat, Doctors, Strictly Come Dancing, Wallace and Gromit, and many more to be honest.
There was only ever going to be one at the top. The Doctor Who theme is epic

Agreed on Robin of Sherwood by Clannad that was massive at the time and still easily identifiable by many, Shoestring and Sapphire and steel also. No Blakes 7, Big Brother, The Professionals, nor Kickstart... No Top of the Pops either... Nor Swap Shop. No Ski Sunday? No Grange Hill or Byker grove like Ant & Dec never existed... :)

The Crystal Maze should have been on this list. Other honourable mentions for me would have been Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Gladiators and Grandstand.

I knew Doctor Who would be number 1, but Poirot is probably my favorite TV theme
Out of all the themes on this list, my favourite is definitely Thunderbirds. Action, perserverence, danger, hope; Thunderbirds has it all. As for the 2015 remake series, it's not too bad, but I think a time jump would have helped the reboot make far more sense, especially if it was the children or grandchildren of the Tracy brothers taking charge of International Rescue.
Grange Hill 1990s theme and the unforgettable Mike and angelo and that banjo sound
No one seems to have said Peaky Blinders, it has that epic song 'Red Right Hand' as its theme.

I actually learned the theme tune to Red Dwarf as part of my music GCSE!
I'm still hoping that the US gets access to UK soaps before I die. I'd have included the theme from "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme".
I mean - maybe it's just me but when I hear Vicar Of Dibley's theme I stop what I'm doing and skid into my seat to watch
I’ve only just noticed that the Channel Islands are missing from Dads Army map, occupied by the Germans during the war and not even bloody included!

Doctor Who is a great choice, but I would also add Black Beauty, Man In a Suitcase, The Onedin Line, Blue Peter, Last of the Summer Wine and a personal favourite The Tomorrow People (1970s version).
Funny thing about the Monty Python theme song, I had no idea it was composed by Sousa.
Be sure to check out Matt Berry's album in which he recreated some of these themes. He's a genius.

I could see why THE SAIONT was excluded since the famous whistle was created a few decades before the series, but THE AVENGERS, THE PRISONER, ROALD DAHL'S TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED and even SAPPHIRE AND STEEL or JASON KING would have been better choices than some of the above.
Rising Damp should have been included. If you have never seen the show, the theme music gives you the general feeling right off. You know you're likely to see a dodgy rooming house, a cranky landlord, and frustrated tenants.
how can Jessica & Yakety Sax only make the honourable mentions section? they are both classics
