  • The foundation of the ARC Angels was laid at the Austin Rehearsal Complex (Whose initials inspired the first word of the bands moniker). There Charlie Sexton had a writing room where he was preparing for his next solo album, Doyle Bramhall II was writing and rehearsing under a development deal with Geffen Records, and Chris Layton had a drum room where he and Tommy Shannon would practice. The initial idea was for a jamming band to play around town when Stevie Ray Vaughan was off the road but nothing came of it. But after the death of Stevie Ray, the ARC Angels became a musical outlet and inspiration for all four band members.
With the release of there debut album on Geffen records the band preceded to tour for three years with appearances on David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan OBrien. Overloaded with talent the band came to an abrupt halt, breaking up in 1994. Chris and Tommy continued on with Storyville (Another Austin success story) as Doyle and Charlie revisited there solo careers. Doyle eventually moving on to perform with Rodger Waters and than to become a member of Eric Claptons touring band. While Charlie spent five years on the road with Bob Dylan.
A decade later after headlining the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin the ARC Angels have decided to reunite, release a new Live CD/DVD, tour extensively and ultimately record a new full length studio album in 2009.

Watching Sexton tune his guitar in the middle of a song as he was singing. What a magnificent talent these guys are.

As a guitarist, watching Doyle play with strings 'upside' is a pretty mind blowing. This is quality stuff!

i awoke one morning to the radio alarm and while still in dream like state, i dreamed the Vaughan brothers, Jimmie and his brother the late great Stevie Ray were jamming this tune trading licks and alternating vocals. Only to awake and realize it was just an hallucination. Thumbs up many times over to this tune!

The potential this crew had in the early '90s was beyond imagination...a group of champions doesn't make a champion group though.

@dishwalla095 Why is there always some idiot that uses the word "imitate" to describe a musician playing someone else's music? I saw "In The Flesh" and it was Gilmour's music being played by someone else not imitated. Can you wrap your head around the fact that interpreting another player's music is not imitating?

These are horrible RECORDINGS, blame the engineer, you can tell they are having trouble on stage just hearing themselves sing. They also know it is being recorded for posterity and is going to likely sound like shit.
To be fair, probably the first time the sound guy ever hear the band and that is a tough gig, but he blew pretty hard here. Arc angles tunes are simple tunes that rely on a good stage sound to come off correctly. The engineer blew this it really should sound much better .
