FSSAI with TEA Board holds consultative meeting to review widespread concern on the quality and safety of tea.
CEO, FSSAI, in presence of Deputy Chairman, Tea Board and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, emphasized on the shared responsibility of all the stakeholders towards ensuring the safety of tea. He further briefed on FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS AND REGULATIONS (FSSR) and highlighted that “Tea shall be free from the extraneous matter, added coloring matter and harmful substances. Pesticides in Tea shall not exceed the Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) prescribed in FSSR. The flavored tea manufacturers shall register themselves with the Tea Board before marketing flavored tea”.
