- For years, people have mocked the Double Dribble title screen voice sample.
On July 8th, 2020, nesdev.com forum member EnigmaWave discovered the digitized voice samples in the Nintendo Entertainment System basketball game Double Dribble were actually corrupted.

"When I was implementing my DPCM channel I accidentally shifted the bits out of the register in the wrong direction. This was the result."
In this video, I compare the original version of the voice sample to the clearer "uncorrupted" version.
I also wondered why the voice is so high pitched, almost Chipmunk-like. Did the person speaking into the microphone that day inhale helium? An adult sports announcer's voice sounds deeper, so I slowed the voice sample down slightly on my computer.
You can hear what the slightly slowed down version sounds like compared to the original speed. The uncorrupted, slowed down version actually sounds impressive, and sounds right to me. Why did Konami speed it up? What are your thoughts? - Hry
Love this dramatic delivery
Very cool discovery. Thanks for sharing!
System limitations. Genesis voice samples sounded horrible too
some guys just have high pitched voices so it's believable
I always heard “Bubble Bibble”
The pitch-corrected version is closer to the arcade version of the game, which I was unaware of until 2010.
This Displaced Gamers video from November 6th, 2020, explains more about the "corrupted" voice samples in Double Dribble as well as why the samples were sped up slightly: czcams.com/video/mJnz6dEWwIw/video.html
I was in the middle of watching this video you shared, when I paused and searched for more DMC/DPCM information. I always thought the drum sounds in SMB3 and orchestra hits in Super-C were amazing... now I learned they were samples!
Now we need the one for The Adventures of Bayou Billy
Konami pooped that one
It’ll always be double dibble
Lol
Bubble ripple to me lmao
