4:10. Do they still teach this? The collegiate manual I have from 2021 didn't have this. I know the video is from 2015, just want to know if this is still taught or if it changed?

You will still see a number of officials working a deeper B in the three umpire system. We continue to teach the "B" position in the three-umpire system as an area where you can be ranging from in front of the baseline to behind and present the positives and negative of both (which there are) to the umpires. A deeper B position is still acceptable per NCAA mechanics.

@@UnitedUmpires thanks. I know we play deeper, but wasn't taught to drop past the line between the bases to make a call from the outside when starting in. That's where I was confused.

@@MH-Tesla Ideally on a tag play, you are always going to want to have the runner sliding at you. Umpiring is a function of time, so you're starting position in this case will dictate whether you can get to that position. This play will happen relatively quickly so you may not have time to get back there depending on where you start the play. Our goal is to always talk about the "whys" behind positioning and let umpires make educated and informed choices out there - we do hope you consider all of the possibilities when choosing a starting deep B position in the 3-umpire system.
