Awesome video, Todd. Getting stressed out just thinking about how much time I spent chasing that idle, just to realize I spent a three hour afternoon tuning the entire time, instead of having fun. I think it’s great how you explain the balance between proper performance and tuning, while still enjoying yourself and the hobby in general without your hair falling out over a two stage idle. Great video man!

I feel like your idle tells you a lot about your tune but when you don’t have that right single stage idle you don’t have a perfect tune but there is also the tuning window where you aren’t at full performance but you aren’t flaming out and it’s drivable you can just warm up and run practice after practice without touching needles
I usually keep my needles fat the biggest hurdle I jumped learning nitro was when I learned there are long and short needle carbs I think the long needle carbs give a much better power curve but can be difficult to tune until you find the right technique that works for you David rc did a really good video tuning long needle carbs and it’s worked great for me
Great video Todd lots of good topics

One thing I’ve noticed from going 20-25-30 is the more nitro percentage the larger the tuning window seems to be but the run time can be slightly different

I know the instant idle sound you speak of Todd and it is truly a beautiful thing. I used to watch John Botajell years back specifically because his novas would return to idle SO dang quickly it sounded like there was 2 engines running! with one at constant idle.
I rarely am able to reach such a perfect tune but im constantly workin on it. Awesome video as usual. Guys like yourself just shootin the sh!t and speaking knowledge is where people like me learn the most!

It’s true I have had some engines that the idle is crap and the engine runs awesome on power

I think that u should go for it lean it out and see what it pulls!!! Totally agree with you about the tune I moved from one state to another and I’m 3000 feet above see level so it makes a big difference to your tune , just my opinion (experience) an I only run p3 plugs in all my motors 👍

My opinion is keep the engine alive if the crank is prone to breaking, and you can change it with a better one that’s what I would do change the crank have fun with the engine

If the rest of the engine is solid and makes good power I would throw a better crank in so it will last if the crank snaps you take a chance of cracking the block then you won't be able to put another crank in

Im really new to nitro. I have 3 nitro cars ive been build after work. I have had a hell of a time with the tuning. Funny thing is im a mechanic and ive been trying to tune my car on a bench. Im giessing wrong way to go about it. So how ive understood it is start with ls and idle then work up to hs needle? Any help would be amazing. Everything ive learned so far has been on CZcams or Google. I don't have any hobby shops within 150 miles of me. And input would be awesome.

Whats a good budget rod for the alpha based trackstar?

Looks like the cheapest one would probably be the hyper 21 rod. Thanks for watching!
